This is a review for Ep2 Remaster of Life Changing Choices.
So, from the get-go, this feels like an almost shot for shot direct rip-off of another game, which I won't name per the rules of reviews... from the characters, their personalities, to the work environment and the general "feel" of the story.
There are a few differences between the two games, but the similarities FAR outweigh the differences.
Right off the bat, this story is 100% "let's make every possible coincidence that can happen in a story happen all at once within just a few days!"
There are more cliches happening here than can be fathomed. There is nothing wrong with cliches, as long as they are at least done well... but this one takes them absolutely seriously, and expects the viewer to have some form of emotional attachment to the characters with it.
Examples:
- Main character had his girlfriend raped and kidnapped (or disappeared? Still foggy exactly on this as the writing is not super clear), moves to a new town a good distance away, and somehow miraculously meets the TWIN SISTER OF HIS MISSING GIRLFRIEND. Twin, btw, that he DIDN'T EVEN KNOW EXISTED. Twin, which, by the story, was "very close" with the missing girl... yeah, sure... so close that her boyfriend didn't know she had a freaking TWIN?! Broken immersion there 100%.
- In this new town, 1st day in new house, MC finds out one of his roommates just HAPPENS to have also had almost the *same damn thing* happen to him.... where his girlfriend was raped in front of him, except instead of disappearing she was murdered. Where the hell are they living where kidnappings and rapes happen so often that you can coincidentally move in with someone like that and BAM same story?
- Speaking of unusually high rape and kidnapping...2nd day in his new house, ANOTHER housemate gets attacked, but the MC gets a... feeling? premonition? IDK... and manages to save her from it.
- Oh, and his missing girlfriend? She just HAPPENS to be living with one of his new co-workers in the new town he moved to that is super far away from his prior town... and conveniently she has amnesia, which is why she never turned back up. I just... wut? Seriously. This is like day 3 in the new town, maybe day 4!
- Also, the new company he works for? Of COURSE it has to somehow magically link back to his own family somehow, even though he didn't know this at all while getting the job... Which, btw, the MC is shown to be super meticulous at everything he does, but he didn't bother even looking into who he was going to be WORKING FOR?! /head-esplodes
Seriously, WTF is going on with this thing?
- Credit where due, the characters look great at least. Truly, they look fantastic. Even the guys look great.
Unfortunately, aside from pretty renders, the story and personality of the characters just fall short. This one needs to go back to storyboard and be reworked... there is potential here, but it's just too much all at once, and not enough "immersion" for a game trying to be this complex storywise.
