Tried to come back to this game after like half a year.
No updates since then.
Fine, the game is good enough, I don't need to focus on the story, im just gonna have fun, take it slow, you know.
The game starts having issues running smoothly, clasic java shenanigans.
Save the game, come back tomorrow, the game bugs out, i can't use the UI with my mouse anymore, have to play keyboard only, check the settings, nothing i can change to make it work again, save and reload, still the same.


See you in like 6 months i guess

It's been just under five years of me off and on watching this exact same cycle play out. Inno doesn't need to learn, she needs to care. And she clearly doesn't really. She already knows what the problem is, and she's made this exact same post before. Basically any time she starts losing subscribers she puts out a pity post to pull a few of the dumb ones back.

She doesn't need to learn because she knows exactly what's she's doing.

Potentially setting up for abandoning the project? Either way I mean dam inno is making like almost 100k annually based on their SubscribeStar numbers and we haven't gotten a major update in like almost a year or half a year now?.

If I understand correctly, the project has been developed for a long time and has many mechanics that were not planned to be added initially. My guess is that the game has reached a point where it's easier to "write" it from scratch with new mechanics in mind than it is to add new mechanics to an existing project. If the game has already been "rewritten from scratch"... I'm new and not that intensive (relatively) following the game.

I sincerely hope that despite all the difficulties, the authors will finish writing the story to the end. I want to know how the story ends.

If I understand correctly, the project has been developed for a long time and has many mechanics that were not planned to be added initially. My guess is that the game has reached a point where it's easier to "write" it from scratch with new mechanics in mind than it is to add new mechanics to an existing project. If the game has already been "rewritten from scratch"... I'm new and not that intensive (relatively) following the game.

I sincerely hope that despite all the difficulties, the authors will finish writing the story to the end. I want to know how the story ends.

They probably got burned out a long time ago and are just scraping by, I know, I get it. I can't imagine how it must be when you rely on said project for income as well, not to say that they really should be treating it like a job instead of a hobby still.

The idea of rescuing the game from Inno has been floating around a lot, but here's a thought: with how much of a mess the code is, do you think just cleaning and optimizing the game would constitute a radical enough change to make it legally distinct?

I mean sure, but Inno is pulling in from what I calculated like, 100k. I don't know if one can say the deadlines and updates they've put nearly 6 figure Salary worth would you?

I mean obviously I'm not a backer here and I won't tell other people what to do with their money, but it's just like....man you're making about 94k annually from backers, You're making more money than some people might ever get the chance to make, and you can't meet a deadline or even inform your backers you know in Advance that deadlines won't be met? I mean there are times Inno has basically just ghosted for like a couple weeks after missing the deadline.

I mean would it necessarily be so hard to just go, OK deadline is delayed. I've completed x and y, but z is still taking some time because.

Just the whole transparency Inno seems to have is pretty lackluster...

Alright let's pretend Innoxia actually sticks to this schedule for a second (lol). He claims he's going to be working 50 - 52 hours a week on this game. Since the last (full) release on the 27th of November, it's been 17 weeks. I know he claimed to be busy for Christmas so let's be generous and subtract all of December and the part week at the end of November, that's still 12 weeks until today. That's around 600 - 624 hours of supposed work. How in the world can you be spending THIS MUCH time working on a project and manage to do absolutely nothing and fail to meet every single release target over a 4 month period?

Legally you are not allowed to distribute it unless it is free, but even then the license contradicts itself and says inno has sole ownership... probably best to just respect their wishes, regardless how you feel about them. You could probably scrape together something similar. If you had even a two person team on a more modern language is probably easier then you expect. I imagine it would be better to do it that way anyways given the quality of the code.

You're looking at it from the wrong side.

The idea sounds amazing.
The thing with A.I. looks good from perspective of a person who doesn't know anything. However people who mastered programming tells that A.I. creates code prone to bugs and errors. That's why it's only good as entry level programmer. Of course you cannot detect it unless you have learned it.

Edit: Got Java 8 up to date (v361), and JDK SE 19 installed and active.

Previous releases worked ok (non EXE versions), but this one won't start. Even tried switching my AV off.
