Hi. I'm doing a side project with my team, so my other projects aren't relevant for this.
The plan is to get the ball rolling 2024, but I am expanding my team so we are ready to get stated by then.
So: To get down to business: I am looking to creating a comic art pack/folio. Or Zine. Or gumroad. Or Itch, whatever you may have come across.
It's simply a collection of comics from several artists. That is then later sold/distributed at some website.
This particular one will not have a character or franchise as the focal point.
But rather: The focus is on it being "In character". Ie: The characters acting according to their personality.
I have noticed this is kind of a gaping hole in R34. As, MANY are very interested in IC porn. Yet, we barely ever see any.
I can't mention the specifics due to site rules, but there is a certain fandom that ALL agree, that X's comic is THE best. And it's an IC comic.
This project allows a LOT of freedom in terms of ideas. My team is able to offer feedback on ideas on many franchises.
Like: If you are REALLY passionate about a mahjong anime from the 70's... you could pick that to work on. Though, we wouldn't be able to offer much advice on it. (And it restricts the payment options.)
So, to speak on the payment options: We offer ~3 ways. (Which one you can pick, is slightly restricted. Will elaborate after this part.)
1: Upfront. This will functionally be to sell off your "revenue share". Ie: Do you want a lump sum, or royalties? This will exclude you from any future earnings from sales of this pack. Or as may be more common: You're no longer included in the patreon monthly earning. You are paid once, upon delivery. (Or 50-50, etc, depending how you operate.)
2: In between. This is a mix of the two. You can get around half upfront, and then the rest of the cost would be deducted from the sales, until it has been paid off. At which point you'd get the rest of the sales as normal. It's mostly just a difference of how much paperwork you want to deal with.
3: Revenue share. You get a portion of the sales each month/bi-monthly. Or whatever people agree is most convenient. (You may need to compromise is everyone except you wants bi-monthly) While the split is aimed to be fair. Some may get a higher share, depending on contribution. In case that becomes too notable. (Just for easy example: If A contributes a 2 page sketch comic. And B contributes four, 10 page ultra HD 4k comics. B WILL get a bigger share.) But, that is only in case of vastly different contribution. (As have happened in the past) Hopefully, everyone will be on remotely similar pages, so to speak.
2 and 3 may be subject to less frequent payouts later in the year. In case of declining sales.
As you may have noticed with both crowdfunded projects and new releases: You may have a month where you only get like $7. Which, wouldn't even cover the transfer fees.
In the unlikely event the entire project would implode and flop: Anyone who has picked 2 or 3, is able to change to 1. We do not want to cause any "roll the dice" situation. The options are more to let you pick what you feel more comfortable with.
Now, with that said: There ARE some exceptions.
You CAN choose to basically do entirely your own thing. With 0 input and feedback from us. This will HOWEVER: Limit you to 3; revenue share.
In the unlikely even your utterly botched the project: You may even be rejected. But like... you'd REALLY have to try to fail to even get there.
You can also do with minimal feedback, and go 1 or 2. But then payment is made after storyboard basically. Terms can be debated and altered beforehand.
But this is mostly just to protect both parties. And to ensure you've understood the assignment, so to speak.
You will still have partial ownership of the product, regardless which payment you choose. But you won't be able to sell it for 6 months after the pack is launched. After that, you can do whatever with it, really. But we'll still have ownership of it. So you can't DMCA takedown or whatever. You CAN also pull out of the pack for whatever reason. 1 and 2 must make repayments before leaving. And 3 can just leave. (You still need to vocalize leaving.) No reason need to be given, but is appreciated.
>
With most legalease out the way, let me get into the details of the project itself.
So, as said: It is an In Character comic project. It's supposed to be self-contained stories, in around 3-8 pages.
This is not a mandatory number, but a rough suggestion. Length and effort can affect share. And does affect upfront. (We obviously don't expect to give the same upfront for a 12 page epic, as a 3 panel strip.) You CAN very much pick whatever you want, more or less. There ARE however requirements to qualify as IC.
- It has to be IC. So, you can't just grab characters from some tumblr AU you came across. You CAN mention that you are interested in making something with that tumblr AU, and we can look into it. But as a rough guideline: It has to work with the franchise it is from. To use Raven as she's the most popular example around here: You CAN quite easily argue that she could have consensual, sexual relations with any of the other Titans. You can however NOT argue that she'd TOTALLY bang that random villain from episode 29 that she never interacted with. Or that other guy she canonically hates. It just needs to be a pairing that meets the bare minimum. And then acts according to their characters.
- Straight or lesbian. You can pair any characters, as long as they fall within this criteria. (We'd have wanted to include gay too but... we all know the internet. And that wouldn't pan out.) And yes, you can make them bi, pan, ace, etc. As long as the end results are F/F or F/M. IF you can squeeze in a threesome or whatever, sure: As long as it fits the character. Even if its porn, no suspension of disbelief please. Trans characters CAN be allowed, but need to be approved. It's IC themed, so can't throw every headcanon in there.
- Consistent anatomy. This basically boils down to: Don't have any huge quality gaps between anatomy. I know this is bread and butter in porn. But we are not looking yet another set of comics, where the girl is the boring accessory, used to show off how cool the male is. For this reason: The girl needs to be at least remotely interesting, compared to the guy. For example: If you pair Raven and BB, wanting to show off the 12 animal dicks you can draw: You're GOING to need to bring something more to Raven than "flat and featureless". If that would include an eldritch tentacle pussy that mentally scars even HP Lovecraft fans: So be it. Just ensure that the girl has something to look at. You CAN ofc make both very simplified if that's your fancy. The vulva just can't have less features than the penis.
- Mutual pleasure. (Or technically: No neglecting the girl. But mutually preferred. Guy CAN be neglected if you so desire.) Similar to the above reason: The girl can't be left hanging. (If straight. One can technically be left hanging if both are girls.) This is also to avoid the same porn trope as above. Not to mention: It would be Out Of Character for most guys to do that, or girls to be okay with that. If you have a REALLY good idea. We are open to listen. For both this point and above. But in general: There shouldn't be any reason as to why to exclude either of these.
And that should cover most of it.
You can base an idea off an episode or issue. Or just totally freeform. The goal is to create an art pack, that contains many people's fav characters, having sex close to how the characters actually would. (Based on their personalities). Something I VERY often see a request for. (Or: VERY often see a complaint about how characters are OOC. And how that ruined a scene in a game.)
We have had thoughts on doing an IC game. But: Decided that starting with an art pack is a better approach. As its a much safer way for people to test the waters. As, while often asked for. No-one has really gone all the way yet. And this might spur new projects. Or at least give insight on which type of game would be the most sought after IC wise.
And to the last point: Yes, I DID mentioned animation.
We're not expecting to get any offers. But, in case someone happens to randomly have a project planned that happens to exactly meet all the criteria: We're not gonna turn that down. Would need to figure out a fair split if so: But we are open to the idea. It would just need to fit the requirements as said.
>
If you still are unsure on what exactly "IC" would entail.
I can list the currently planned comics, (or at least the current rough outlines for them.)
- Teen Titans - Exploring Jinx and Flash's relationship after the show. Very basic. Mostly sex, IC talk and playing with the shown relationship.
- Amphibia - Time skip, exploring Sasha and Marcy post-show. Focus on their scars, physical and mental. And Marcy's inhuman nature.
- Owl House - Timelapse. Luz and Amity, showing their relationship throughout the show, and getting spicy after they conveniently become legal age.
- Arcane - The shower scene they cut away from. You know which one.
- Teen Titans - Starfire. Basically "A night with Starfire", except its not only sex. With some titans, its a "head on shoulder, wanna talk about it?" session.
- Life is Strange/She-Ra. Artist isn't sure, but wants to explore post-credits with one of them. Kinda 50-50 heart to heart, 50 % sex.
- Adventure Time. Maybe Huntress Wizard. It will be outdoors at least.
Simple list as said. Again: No rocket surgery.
You don't have to come up with anything super intricate. It's just to show that IC porn can be more interesting than generic porn.
Even if you don't have any ideas. You can ask to join, and we can ball some ideas with you.
Romance isn't a requirement either, but a plus.
It can be as simple as thinking a world has a cool setting, and "What if I add sex here?", and: As long as that fits a character in that world: You're good to go.
I hope that answered all questions. If I forgot anything, let me know and I'll try to get back to it within 3 days.
