Is anyone else not a little frustrated by the sheer amount of shit that uses DAZ, renpy, fucking Illusion game screenshots, AI art?

Nobody? At all? Anyone?

I'm tired of these low-quality, low-effort RPGM gallery games too. What happened to game devs making fun games? I am exaggerating, but it really feels like you can count those on all your fingers, toes, and your dong.

Seriously.

I feel a little tired that every time I want to see what's new, I must add "AI art", "real porn" to excluded tags, and outright trash any game made with renpy or any game tagged as a VN.
I really, really want to filter out Unity/UE games too, because grand majority of them are pure garbage, but there are a couple that aren't, so I can't. My options?
a) dig through the western DAZ trash
b) miss out on a gem or two

Stop paying for trash and learn to pay for quality. Summertime Saga is exactly why porn games will never evolve beyond Artificial Academy 1 & 2, Honey Select, Koikatsu, etc.

I have to agree there. I know that I have high standards and differing tastes, but I cannot comprehend how people even consider playing such games. I also have to filter out VNs and Renpy games because they are interactive books with subpar writing and art. HTML games are also on the list because most of those contain real life pornography and I don't feel like looking at roast beef when I am looking for 2D. It seems western games suck in general because of certain themes but the same goes for japanese works in some cases, since while westerners flock to step-shit and incest asians flock to javs and highschoolers squirting.
So, I know my post may trigger some weg lovers but I really cannot stand them. And, OP, I just want you to know that you're not alone in this.

I'm willing to put up with amateurish art and technical jank, but when I start up a popular game, a VN no less, and the writing is dry and riddled with typos, I really have to wonder about peoples' taste.

Every single game it's nothing but RPGMaker for their VNs. Did nobody ever learn to use Game Maker?

Soon enough AI will make these VNs by itself. We'll put an AI to prompt the AI.

I don't blame them. I tried to search for 2d pixel art animations at Asset Releases and all of them are uncanny 3d realistic models, I found out they only allowed to share 3d assets, so I tried to at least find a 2d nsfw asset anywhere and it was scarce as hell.

So, because that's all the assets you get access to its the only thing you will see that's why when I see an animated 2d art I cherish it because I know its original art not taking from Asset Releases or anywhere else.

Nah it's not just you. Games are mostly just objectively garbage compared to what's been there five or more years ago.

When i could download at least some "0.0.2 update" about every day back in ~2018, i can now go weeks without seeing anything worthwhile. Most authors used to update perhaps every 4 to 8 weeks, now we're talking about 4 to 8 months, and that are the faster ones. And then the update is perhaps 10 minutes of story / gameplay.



There is a number of things which happened over the past years, which i believe have eroded the creator scene:


1. Ukraine invasion - evidently several dev teams were separated by it.
This event seems to mark a clear drop in quality content, that's why i mention this first. Plenty of authors have simply stopped updating their games, others had to replace their artists or coders.

2. Covid-19 - if we thought that staying home for 1-2 years would make people more creative... nope. Many people actually caught a depression, not to mention "long covid" syndrome for ex-infected people. My brother-in-law seems to have that, caught Covid twice.

3. Patreon and other platforms banning more and more content types - this is probably the worst, if you're an artist and someone destroys your work - or prevents you from publishing it, not to mention making a living of it.
Like how 90% of all patreon games used to be incest-focused? Now they even ban games in a "family-like scenario".

4. Global anti-liberalization - not just credit card companies and publisher platforms are tightening the screws. Lots of things which used to be normal some 10-20 years back are now crimes, or at least unspeakable moral offenses. Obviously doesn't play well with porn games, which are largely about taboos and sexual fantasies.

5. AI CG - pornography is largely about seeing something new. Since Stable Diffusion got fairly good at generating photorealistic and often surprisingly accurate results, i guess lots of people rather spend time creating some AI shit for giggles, rather than wasting time downloading low quality games for the ever-same frustration.
