thx for the share, i have not played your game yet but if the game contain battles similar to other rpgm ace vx (such as skill, items and equipment) i really recommend you to get inspiration from black souls 2 fight, BS2 bosses is fun to fight against cuz you have to be a bit creative to win.
for example in case the player have more than one turn he/she can use weapon1 special ability then switch to another weapon and use weapon2 special ability to make a cambo.

I'm having a problem where after I go down one of the paths at the start (that lead to either the coin or the first picture) and then come out of said path, the game just freezes if I'm adjacent to the lunatic, can't open the pause menu, nothing

Hey I got stuck there too was pressing enter and nothing, then i pressed with the mouse on the mushroom and it worked fine. Probably dev needs to fix keyboard and mouse controls stuff
