There's no words to describe how horrible the ending of this game actually was, but it's easily one of the worst things I've ever seen on any kind of media.
Lost, game of thrones, mass effect 3, attack on titan... anything you can think of will look like a masterpiece compared to this, but let's start from the beginning.
----- Season 1 -----
First, the game starts with your classic "groundhog day" plot. The MC is stuck in a time loop and decides to take the chance to do all of the shit he ever wanted to, and as you can expect, it's basically just fucking every girl he knows.
It's a simple story, full of cliches, the incest aspect is never really explored and is almost irrelevant to the the plot, but it's still a fun game and good enough to keep you playing.
----- Season 2 -----
Then we get to season 2. There's a huge drop in the writing quality here. There's almost zero development for the side character, and most importantly for the MC.
He still acts like the same retarded he was back when the loop started and the interactions with the girls just become annoying, repetitive and boring. On top of that, the developer decide to introduce superpowers into the story for some reason.
Overall, it's a much worse experience than season 1 and also ends on a completely out of place cliffhanger that almost destroyed the whole story.
----- season 3 -----
Finally there's season 3. This one is actually kinda difficult to rate, because on one hand you can clearly tell it was always rushed from the beginning, but on the other hand the writing is much better.
AFAIK, the entire season 3, except for the ending, was written by a different person.
You can tell the new guy was trying to fix the huge mess the previous writer created with season 2 ending, and he actually does a decent job at it.
The game tries to add some depth and personality to the side characters, although, IMO, it only succeeded with 2 of them. The incestuous relationship between the characters is also addressed in a more serious way for the first time, even if just briefly.
But again, the most important here is the MC. We finally start seeing some development as the time he spent in the loops, (which at this point has been decades), and how it has changed him over time, become core aspects to the plot.
He's still way more immature than he should be, but it's still an improvement.
Overall the story has a much more serious tone. A good decision, IMO. There's even some well written and slightly emotional scenes with the girls learning about the time loops and everything the MC has gone through.
----- endings -----
Then we finally reach the endings. As i said before, AFAIK, this is the only part that was written by the same guy who did the first two seasons and I personality believe it was deliberately done in the worst possible way in order to actually ruin the game, simply because his ego couldn't handle the fact that someone else did a better job.
The ending starts with a pretty predictable plot twist that basically gives the MC 2 choices;
1) pick the only girl who's also aware of the loops and has been with him for most of the time.
The issue here is that she'll only accept to be with him if she can wipe his memory, making him forget EVERYTHING that happened since the loop started and go back in time before the timeloop started to live his life like nothing happened so he can meet her and fall in love with her "naturally".
Again, at this point he spent DECADES in this loop and it's all thrown away just like that.
This is also completely out of character for this girl, ignores her own development and turns her into a complete sociopath since she keeps her own memory intact and also learns to control the timeloops, so she basically manipulates him until he falls for her in this new timeline.
Afterwards you get a 30 second montage with the mc going back to being the retarded he was, meeting this girl, dating and marrying her without ever remembering the time they spent in the loop.
2) pick someone else.
Here that girl will decide to wipe her own memory and forget him instead, so again, all of her development goes straight to trash.
Aftwards you get another 30 seconds montage showing the MC living with however girl(s) you choose and that's it.
The other girls you didn't chose completely disappear from his life, even though 3 of them are literally his family, the timeloop or the time he spent there are never mentioned again and we never learn what happened to the character the was responsable for the timeloop afterwards.
You can end with 2 or 3 girls but there ins't an actual harem ending with all of them. This is completely retarded since every relationship has always been forced on the player on all 3 seasons and you never even had the option to turn down any of the girls before.
