Do NPCs need arrows?
Technically no. By default, they shoot wooden arrows but with 100% damage and perfect accuracy. You can put arrows in their inventory though and they'll use the leftmost arrow, letting them benefit from the arrow's special effect. Arrows used this way are never consumed so they can use it indefinitely.

You can also farm arrows this way since any arrows that hit an enemy will remain stuck in them. Most animals when killed will give you all the arrows that hit them when you loot their body. This works for any enemy that you can just click their corpse to loot them, instead of the corpse acting as a lootable container (that you can sometimes carry and dismantle). So it doesn't work on natives and most humans.

This method also works to farm Pretty Arrows but the creature has to be killed instead of stunned. You can make NPCs HIT them with Pretty Arrows to get them stuck in their body, but the final blow has to be a kill instead of a stun, otherwise you just get the stunned creature instead of its loot and arrows.

Hi everyone, when will the next update be released? I thought it was monthly, so it'll be a matter of days?

There will be a Cien blog update on Sunday or Monday (Japan time) but not sure whether it will come with an actual update.

In any case, Yui (the artist of the artist-programmer duo making this game) has revealed that the next update will center on rescuing the girls hung up on the Native Boss's back.

According to

Throw a zero byte file called none.bat into \Mad Island\Mad Island_Data\StreamingAssets\XML and it will be de-censored.

Creating a zero byte file (in Windows):
Have file extensions visible; if you don't know how to do that, Google it
Right click and select New>>Text File
Creates a New Text File.txt
Change name to none.bat
Say Yes to the file extension warning
Done
There is already a none.bat but it has 1429kb, is it save to delete and create a empty one?

This game is literally MAD. Totally weird, doesn't make much sense... and I love it.
I took some time to explore, killed the first boss, converted 2 native girls and have 3 more in cages, defended a few raids, built 3 tribal shacks, a workbench, some other bits and bobs, planted a bunch of trees and...
I still have no idea what I'm doing! This game does look particularly "hard", but there is so much to learn and do that it's a real challenge. And I love it.

If anyone has any particularly good tips for a noob, especially for resource management and base defence, please tell me. Right now I really need charcoal. I believe it's obtained by using the forge (still working to build it).
I read about a strategy of building tables to defend the base as enemies cannot take them down. I already have some wood walls with wood spikes all around but I grossly under sized my base and pretty much need to redo everything. I'm actually pretty decent at fighting enemies (mostly lure them away to try and pick them one by one).
But mostly I'm still very clueless, especially about what I need to focus on next. I guess that for now I need to focus on feeding my NPCs. Once my come out of the cages, it will be 5 already.
But man, I'm getting to like the game.

Am I right to assume that I can play with either character and ignore the other? Because I've been doing it. And haven't found how to move the other character away from the beach yet.

P.S. Is there any particular downside to stun a tribal by (clears throat) "r*pe"? Seems much easier than a club for now... Going from caveman love to creep real fast... lol
Best tip for the entire game useinbg "F" makes MC use a hard attack, at start you won't be able to block while useing it and it's slower than a normal attack, but if you level the corresponding skill those things will stop and you can deal incredible damage.
Also useing Hard attacks can sever body parts from NPC which can later be used to create Cyborgs/Frankensrtein guards.

Yes

Is there any down side to abandoning a base? It doesn't have much anyway, so it's not a huge loss and I know I can move most of it anyway. A bit of a job, but oh well...
Also, what is the best way to "move" a lot of gear and a few people? I have 4 wood crates full of stuff. I might be able to use my NPCs for that. I have 5 or 6.
Can I just start another base and "move" them there?
I basically picked a not so great spot near the starting beach, so might as well just go before I build more.
Not sure were to go. Only beat the first boss yet.

Well, every bit of stuff adds to the save/load time, but it's not like you have a massive unused base just sitting there so it should be negligible. A lot of people have many small bases throughout the map with workers harvesting stuff. Also double as fast travel points with food from traps/workers to replenish hunger.

Pick up full chest, move cursor to invalid location, open map and fast travel while holding chest. Could need some finagling about with the cursor because the final click to confirm fast travel might place the chest instead.

Can also stuff NPCs into containers to move them en masse with this trick.

This trick also works when giving movement orders to an NPC. Ask an NPC to move, then fast travel with the glowing territory circle open, then set the NPC's new location all in one go.

Just don't... move houses with stuff inside them like this. Can lead to bugs and stuff being left behind or disappearing into the void.

Oh that's great! I always wish we can save them , I believe they might be MMC's friend or something.

Spikes, floor needles, Bigfoot, and Werewolf for base defense. As far as resource management... aside from assigning natives to do stuff for you (mining, logging, ect), focus on getting the iron axe/pickaxe, and then set aside a couple of hours in which you do nothing but blast your favorite music as you go full ham on gathering up everything in a three mile radius minimum. Mines will respawn their ores every time you leave and re-enter, and you can use the acorns to plant trees right outside your base so you don't have to go far to collect wood. As soon as you're feeling confident, use the map in the guide linked on the first page to head to the dungeon; you can find some good loot in there, including a much better weapon than the basic-bitch iron sword.
