TL;DR
Magical Valkyrie Lyristia is mostly held up by decent artwork and some charming visual flair, but is much weaker in true depth and replayability/gameplay cycling. Additionally, if you're not into a ryona-heavy forcefulness at times, be wary.
Gameplay
A very basic RPGmaker sequencing gameplay with some battlefuck mechanics. Lyristia's combat overall works OK but can take a little "getting used to" as you see how the devs wanted mechanics to be used.
Combat is relatively time consuming but not so much I'd say they're intentionally wasting the player's time -- that being said, the last section of the game slows down quite a bit.
Overall the worst I'd say for the combat is repetition and mostly disengaged feeling. Compared to something like Magical Girl Celesphonia it's a much more basic system.
Shortcomings in Gameplay
There's some irritation with a poor scene backtracking system, no easy shop access, no easy upgrade access, and no way to truly go back and experience anything you have in previous gameplay. Unlike most RPGs which usually have sections or "hub availability", Lyristia is mostly linear.
H-content
I really enjoy the artwork and overall think it blends well with a lesser animation system (many H-losses are flat pictures that go back and forth, though some animation is present). H-combat is decent, though gets a little tiring after seeing it a number of times.
Voice acting is decent albeit grating after hearing it a while. There's spoken repetition, for example, with Lyristia being bound and saying the same thing over and over.
Scenes can get rather ryona-heavy and at times I was feeling a bit more bummed than "lewdly engaged" to scenes.
Additionally, there is some graphic violence; although it's mostly avoidable, it really set a weird tone for me later into the game. For me that makes this more of a "bottom of 3/5 tier".
On top of that, the ending of the game is left open-ended and sequel-baiting. Not particularly a closed book.
Conclusion
Magical Valkyrie Lyristia has solid art and a basic premise which can engage the player with a simple gameplay loop, but doesn't shine or excel in anything in particular. Heavy on ryona and with some unfortunate graphic violence late down the stretch, the H-content is relatively limited but does its job well overall. I would say if you're looking for more games to sate your catalogue, this is worth a play at some point, but don't expect anything great or particularly unique.
