Doomerism aside: It's highly unlikely that he just randomly decided to launch a bunch of demos in rapid succession, update his blog numerous times, and repeatedly revise his estimate for release, if he didn't actually believe that the game was close to being done.

Even if he misses the end-of-july estimate (and remember: that's all it ever was), it just means that he doesn't believe that the game is in a good enough state to sell yet.

The game being very close to done still won't change, and I bet most people would rather wait a little longer than struggle with stupid bugs that inhibit their enjoyment.
