Why do you like to play with a male/female protagonist what is your point of view.

male preferred, though that is at least partially based on the fact that most female protag games fall into the vein of 'shy virgin becomes the town bicycle' or 'hapless heroine is repeatedly raped' neither of which appeal to me.

Being female I prefer that but game choices are limited.

Fortunately some super awesome devs are putting in gender select at the start so I can pick like in Heavy Five and Bad Memories.

I do play some male protag games but i'm really fussy with those. I can't play those creeper MC's that do the sleep rape shit, it's weird and creepy. Not a fan of awkward MC's either.

I really enjoy those really long Japanese romance, date sim VN's but a lot of male protags in those are so bad. Best one i've seen in those is Yamato from the Majikoi series.

It's not a sexist thing, i'm not a man hating dyke. I think guys are awesome I just can't "immerse" myself playing one and straight sex doesn't do much for me. Those I tend to play for the story alone.

Unless they are so bad they are good, I play those games for the giggles but that's not reserved for male MC games, all kinds of MC's get stuck in those games.

I love RPG's but only 1 of my faves offers me the choice. Roundscape is great though. I love Last Sovereign and Renryu Ascension but they are both male protag, fortunately awesome males but still. Daughter of Essence and Desecration of Wings are both fem MC and I love those games too.

The only problem is a lot of female MC games are those awful "corruption" ones where it's just some dumb bint that does dumb shit and gets forced to fuck all manner of fat, old and fugly blokes. I'd rather pull my teeth that play those.

Well, I don't mind Elena's Life but that let me turn her lesbian and avoid men. Anything with a lesbian route auto wins approval.

I like both, also futa. Problem is as Avaron1974 said, female MC always ends up getting raped and/or corrupted. I don't hate corruption themed games, but it's always the same, especially with female MC, so meh.

I thoroughly enjoy both, however I slightly prefer male as they usually focus on a larger cast of females.

I like both but I find it much easier to develop an emotional attachment to a male main character which makes any decisions I make more interesting since I actually care about what happens to him since it feels more like it's happening to me.

With a female lead I rarely find any sort of emotional attachment so I generally don't care what happens to her. I'm just looking to involve her in every sex scene I can find no matter how much of a scumbag the other person might be and no matter what the consequences are.

It also seems like if the main character has a significant other, this SO is almost always portrayed as being a more sympathetic character if the main character is male. If the main character is female, her SO is usually a complete loser.

Male protagonist is like watching porn:
You get served static vanilla scenes (M+F) that get boring fast.
And in the rare cases that something interesting happens, like:
M Solo (hand, other hand, uhhh ya 2 hands and that's it)
M + M
M + Bessie the Cow / Gabby the Goat
M + extremely wasted trailerpark sister with 5000 needlemarks
and whatever else Americans so do......... interesting but just NOT attractive

Female protagonist is like MAKING porn:
F Solo (broomstick, sword hilt, sword blade, sybian, fucking machine, DP machine, TP machine, etc.)
F + Interesting (dog, horse, boar, bear, big cat, orc, troll, minotaur, ogre, giant, beholder, slime, tentacles, etc.)

It's like with clothes:
You can put a female into anything and it's OK, you put a male into 90% of what's called clothing and......... yea, not cool.

So what choice is there in the end?

It's not Male or Female MC

It's Only-Female MC

As I posted in another thread about this

I definitely prefer female protagonists for a bunch of reasons. Though there are still many male protagonist games I enjoy.

Firstly they tend to be less rapey or if there is rapey stuff then you as the player are not the one committing it. Not to say all male protagonist games are rapey of course but I often find myself uncomfortable with what I have to do to get the lewds I want to see in male protagonist games.
Also the non-rapey sex in male protagonist games often requires long boring grinding while it's often much easier to get to the sex in female protagonist games.

Plus I'm way more likely to actually care about an attractive female character than some dude character. I want to follow what happens to her, how lewd she gets, what she does, how much sex she has, if she gets knocked up, etc rather than keeping a tally of how many chicks some dude who isn't me is banging. I want to follow the story of someone I'm attracted to rather than the story of a dude.
Like maybe it would feel less like watching some other guy have all of the sex if I self-inserted into the male protagonist but that's pretty rare for me, it often feels like the personality just doesn't match up.

And it opens up more possibilities. In a female protagonist game you can have sex with male and female characters and it all involves at least one character I'm attracted to. But in a male protagonist game if there's ever a lesbian scene then by definition it's not involving the protagonist.

As far as roleplaying as a female character goes I've never really had a problem with it. I play a mix of male and female characters in games regardless of whether I can see their ass. Female in Skyrim - male in Oblivion. Female in New Vegas - Male in Fallout 4. Male in Mass Effect - Female in Dragon Age Inquisition.

As far as the "protect" instinct goes - that only kicks in for me with games where I'm explicitly playing as some kind of mind control agent trying to get the girl to do these things against her will. If I'm playing as her then I want to become as lewd as possible as quickly as possible so all the scenes become fun happy sex.

I prefer to play a male protagonist but games with the story I want are with a female protagonist
I like romance and life time like in newlife, a text based game and it's kinda exciting

I admit the fact that a girl will end like a b*tch most of the time in Fprot games is annoying. It's kinda boring when the story is almost known and essentially a case of sex...

It's like, woman is an object of desire who will almost submit to a man
A man will be a sissy and become a slut
Or he will have a harem.

It's not really imaginative and kinda boring

Female, but as others have already said the typical stories SUUUCK! Scrap the rape, mind break, blackmail and all that crap, just don't make her a shy virgin or a sour prude in the first place and you don't need that "corruption" bullshit to get her into sex. Heck the RPGM rapefests still have regular combat encounters with no erotic scenes anyway so it's not like your cookie-cutter "gameplay" absolutely depends on that stuff for pacing, progression or whatever.

But male protags often end up being worthless doormats or creepy rapists and while 3lfscout's assessment is slightly exaggerated by all means it should be easier and more reliable to find more worthwhile content when the protagonist is attractive.

Male protag. female protag games usually have the oxymoronic situation of "you are rewarded for losing the game" through h-scenes on your character's defeat. Plus, that rapey shit doesn't do it for me TBH. And most of the female MCs themselves usually start as naive or even prudish virgins who become total self-degrading, monster-rape-loving sluts after having sex like... 5 times. I just want a male protag I can project on (eg not a massive douche with no mental faculties except his libido.), who ends up with a bunch of girls with varying personalities, body types, and fetishes.

That entirely depends on the type of game. In standard AAA games I often play the female character (think Cyberpunk, Dragon Age etc) or have lots of fun with games like Control or Tomb Raider that have no male option at all, even if those games sometimes include some (light romance). But when the focus is almost entirely on romance (think VN), I prefer the male perspective, but that could also be attributed to what kinds of stories the VNs have. I have no issues with romancing someone like Cullen in DA:I as a female character for example. It's wholesome and romantic, which is what I usually prefer.
That being said I find many MCs in quite a few VNs pretty insufferable and I don't identify with them at all. So I usually look for games where the MC is at least half decent and not a complete idiot or creep. Haven't checked out any VNs with female protagonists yet, but if they are like so many standard male MCs I'd rather not play them anyway.

I like playing as women for the lesbian sex scenes. The problem is, practically no one makes these games that cater to my mindset. Dog Days of Summer is one that I like: a woman going out and having as much lesbian sex as possible without being treated like a whore. It doesn't take forever to get those scenes and they're done well.

I also like to play as a shemale, whenever the mood strikes, but those games aren't very good, either. Body parts are disproportionate (usually a mother's body with a ridiculously sized monster cock) and she always acts like a guy. I've yet to come across a good shemale protagonist game.

Interesting. I thought male votes will be the majority like 80/20% but it's actually quite balanced. Personally I usually prefer female protagonist in non porn games and always pick female when there is a choice (Skyrim, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Elden Ring...etc). But for porn games its 50/50. I'm fine with both but when playing a games female protagonist I want it to be written like a male protagonist games. Like you can choose your LI, who to have sex with and so on and not the usually blackmail, corruption, rape, unavoidable sex...etc

Non porn games, don't care at all. MC could be anything at all and if the gameplay is good enough I'm in.

Porn games and eroges though... always/only play games with a male MC. Never fem, futa, or multiple protags. Those characters just don't fit with my habit of self-inserting as the MC, nor with my sexual predilections and appetites.

Exclusively male MC. I've tried to play a few games with female MCs but just can't immerse myself into the story.

In reality not all games are the same and some games work best with different protagonists, that's why we see both being used.

In general I tend to prefer female protag games because those are more focused on the protagonist herself.

While male protag games usually make you play with a hollow husk that has no personality and instead focus on all the characters he is sleeping with, which also works but those are different concepts overall.

I also don't want to see a mastubation scene in the shower when playing with a guy... It is impressive how many devs make those.
