There's been a thread like that, but it's quite old, so I decided to make this one.

Basically, I want to play games with mature male protagonists. This is more about their code of conduct, than about their age, though these things surely overlap. It doesn't need to be overly realistic, but 'after twenty years in prison Jack Jackson returns to fuck all the women in his hometown' doesn't really qualify (please don't consider it a jab at such games, I think you know what I'm trying to say).

If anything, by mature I mean such traits, present to the various extent in different characters:
  • having life-experience,
  • sensible way of doing things,
  • weariness/disillusionment,
  • 'seen-it-all-attitude', which includes knowing what he likes and doesn't like, what he respects and despises,
  • willingness to bear responsibility where needed.
These things may be contradictory when taken to the extremes, so it is more of a guideline. You may also argue that mature people aren't really like that, but I'm just speak of the way they're usually presented in the media.

What I can recommend.

The Last Sovereign. Basically, it is a game about a grumpy, experienced man having a power-trip trying to unfuck the world. Also, one of the best RPG ever, surpassing more or less anything that came out in the last five years or so.

Friends in Need. A middle-aged loser who's seen some things tries to unfuck his life. Also, has a dark path.

One Night Stand. Short erotic story, a very fine read. Has a standard trope where a jaded stick-up-his-ass man decides to have some fun.

Sorcerer. The MC is extremely, james-bondy capable, but, contrary to most power fantasies like that, he is presented first and foremost as someone who cares about people close to him and is willing to treat them with respect. I think it is much more prominent in this game then in, say, 'Desert Stalker', even if Stalker is also proficient, capable and willing to protect what's his.

Sorry, If this post is overly-complicated. I really will be happy to hear all your suggestions.

Well, I'm not too sure how Black Souls would really fit into this, so I'll just provide what information I can. The MC is pretty stoic, rarely talks (compared to some protagonists) and the narration doesn't frequently give his thoughts on things. He does actually have a personality, just isn't shown often.
  • Life-experience: Sort-of. He never fumbles something in a dumbfounding way, and most characters have some respect for him.
  • Sensible way of doing things: Kind of depends on how you play, I guess. Probably yes.
  • weariness/disillusionment: He's not naive by any means, but he definitely has an inner conflict.
  • 'seen-it-all-attitude': Given his lack of commentary, not really.
  • Willingness to bear responsibility: He is... kind of evil. But he does shift towards being a better person near the end of the second game.
