Unity - Completed - Max Gentlemen Sexy Business! [v2.18] [The Men Who Wear Many Hats]

Update: It's been out awhile and at this point, the review is going to drop a star because the game plays slow and while the art is still great, if a game reaches a point I think "Well I wish this had just been an adult comic not a game", can't really call it even average anymore. Good art, decent concept, slow result that's just not the most fun to play. Really could use an in game cheat.

Original: The art is amazing (I really need to learn to cg rip unity), the game play is decent however the grind is real. A game that would very much benefit from less consuming mechanics or at least add an ingame cheat menu or something at a minimum for those that don't want to put more time in a game than their job. It's on the border of 4 stars, or maybe 5 someday, but with all the adult games out these days one that feels too much like work is hamstringing itself.

Quite an enjoyable game. The nudity/sexual content, as has previously been noted, with only some sexy text describing the sex and some nude pinups and nude sprites (all fully uncensored though). However, the game is still adult in tone and I very much appreciate the adult games that have a pretty decent game attached to the sexy stuff, and isn't just clicking through text.

The game itself is balanced pretty well. Simple, but engaging enough to keep me hooked for a good dozen hours and change (and willing to commit more when promised updates happen). It tries to sell itself as difficult in the introduction (telling you to expect to fail a few times before getting the hang of it), but I managed to win on my first attempt with a decent cushion of extra time.

With that said, it's a management sim, and the dating gameplay is pretty thin, so don't go into it just for the date sim aspect of it. That won't work out! The lunch date mini-games are also not really to my taste (a bit too vague/RNG-heavy), though I don't have any problems with the massage minigame that were reported. However the story and dialogue during the dates proper is funny, though I would rather it got to the sexy stuff quicker than it does. For all its marketing as a "sexy" game it can be a while before even the flirtatious courtesan is ready to do more than tease you. There's also one or two features in the management sim that I think could've been handled better (like the late-game business office).

Despite those flaws however, I fully recommend it. I wish more sexy games had nearly as much of a fleshed-out game attached to them rather than just being visual novels.

Edit: Noted, I'm pretty much just into girl-on-girl games, and the LGBTQ content in the game is very welcome and its sex-positive tone is appreciated.

Pros

+ the management elements are fun, and reasonably challenging.

+ The appearance of the MC, and the villain, is customization
+ Overall light-hearted vibe, and the humor isn't too cringe.

Cons
- The game can be laggy
- The interface is a bit clunky.
- All the H-content is pretty tame. I would have enjoyed seeing some actual sex rather than just pinups.


All together this game pretty okay. I think there's plenty that could be done to improve it but overall i'm pretty satisfied with it. It's a good way to kill some time.

Was going to bother to write up a longer review for this game but IG88a basically described this game perfectly so I'll give my quick thoughts.

Its a fairly fun management simulator, with an enjoyable but not amazing plot, and 1D characters that work well. The whole game is overly silly humor, there is no serious part to it, I personally enjoyed it but I can see why many people may not. I'd suggest watching Jesse Cox's video on it if you want to get an idea of what the game is like, the intro is quite similar to how the game stays throughout.

Don't play the game for the porn, play it for a 7/10 management game with some sex jokes as humor and a handful of nude photos. I think my first playthrough took about 4 hours and my second playthrough 5 hours or so. Based on the end of route 2 im guessing there is a route 3 where there are slight changes made to the plot and the map you progress through changes a bit. I enjoyed the gameplay enough for a 3rd playthrough but without a way to speed up the time I think I will pass for now.

Overall a competently made game with some problems.

The core gameloop is a pretty bog standard management simulator, I haven't checked but probably similar to their SFW title, that is what you expect out of that sort of system. Generate money, pay off loans, and rebuild your fortune while collecting relationship points via actions and events to propel the linear VN segment. It's solid and provides a good amount of "game" content. As a SFW title the game is nothing special, but entertaining enough to play.

Technical cons-
There are some UI/interface problems; things like detection boxes for dropping your employees into jobs, not automatically paying debts which will game over you despite having the assets on hand, dropping an employee in a full building not replacing an employee currently assigned among other usability/interface issues for this class of game. Also there is some serious audio tearing with the background music to the point I shut it off, along with some stability issues with freezes, disk use spikes, controls locking up, and other minor non game breaking bugs.

As for a porn game it barely qualifies. There is little in this that you couldn't put into an ESRB T or MA rated game besides the final very vague text based sex scene for each employee and the uncensored pinup. It doesn't even use the nude sprites in game with the content filter turned off during them.

Each girl has 2 images with 2 alts; a rough digital black and white watercolor sketch and a finished inked and colorized pinup. The grind to get them though is monumental. This is to pad out the "porn game" part of the game, which becomes glaringly apparent at how many playthroughs/the twist(copout) are required to unlock them all, let alone if you pitch for the other team and want to unlock the males too. To get at all of the pinups you are encouraged to play less tactically and to draw the game out as long as possible to get more heart affecting events, meaning the porn game is at odds with the goal of the management simulator.

The writing in total is good. Characters are very one dimensional but it works for a game like this with so little direct interaction outside of the date events and choice events. Each girl follows the pattern of "Driving external thing as backbone of interaction" and it frames the "dates." It isn't very in depth but comes off as clever most of the time. (Besides the dated citizens united "joke" in the opener.) The VN dates and dialogue are ribald and lowbrow, but they never cause a rise or have any consequences to gameplay making the events seem a tad hollow, especially with the number of illusion of choice options.

The minigame events are fucking terrible. Devs, do not do this to try and pad runtime.
Blackjack- the computer will play itself 21 constantly. It should be changed to weigh in the players favor and not the house computer AI.
Rock paper scissors arm wrestling- ok, just stupid to have you arm wrestling women; it's a system that only makes sense fullhomo but isn't locked for the 80lb totally legal tomboy. It had some charm, but you'll see the same witty* banter repeatedly. It at least follows the proper 60% win/tie, 30% lose model.
Massage- completely unplayable due to input lag and effectively a dead turn
tea game- frustrating due to the fact the biographies are incredibly generic and it's random chance until you get it right. Only gives you a text hint if you have 2/3 correct and before that it's shooting in the dark.
knowledge- coin toss because the characters are ridiculously generic. You get a choice between two cards against humanity style statements and are asked which the girl would rather do. Also a crapshoot trial by error weighted towards the generic option.

Overall it isn't much of a porn game, but it is an ok game. Play it going into that it's a SFW game with a very small porn mod added to it. It's worth a few hours of playtime but not to try and unlock every girls costume and one pinup. Just unpack the files and you'll see all 12 images. On it's merits as a generic management game it's about a 3.5-4/5 but for a game selling itself on pornographic content you won't see a nipple until the end of your first playthrough or the start of the next.
