Ren'Py - Completed - Mist [v1.0.3] [395games]

Played .8 something and thought it was an amazing game enjoyed every second. Great graphics, fun scenes, good story. Didn't wanna put it down and sad when I finished it. Will buy it when finished and play it again!

I'd say underrated even with 340 odd ratings.
This one made me like adult rpg themed games with everything so classy and breathtaking.
Animations are absolutely top of the world.
Sandbox is well made and real liked the daily activities you have to do.
Models are cute and hot, each one them are distinct and likable.
Fortunately i came across this gem and didn't dissapoint a bit.

Note: I don't believe a complex opinion can be properly represented by a number but I do understand some people are impatient so I don't use the star system normally, my ratings are as follows. 1 don't recommend, 3 unsure please read review, 5 recommend

Okay so MIST is an overly used video game title, it's also this textbook male fantasy game where you are the only male left on earth and you have to be the glorious savior of the remaining female characters.

Honestly this game is annoying to me, it has lots of what like, like optional incest, harem shit, intrigue. But it pairs that with things I don't particularly like in porn games, mainly "gameplay", and repetitive dialogue.

Since I mentioned it and now need to explain myself lets talk about gameplay, and my problem with it. Okay so obviously I don't hate "
"gameplay" in general but I take issue with this idea that it should be the focus of the game specifically in porn games. I didn't boot this up with the thought "Oh I can't wait to get back to needless resource management the game" I had my dick in my hand and was ready to go. Luckily there are people like me who exist with more technical knowledge and skill and one of those nice people made a cheat mod, I didn't use it with reckless abandon I did try to keep to the games pacing as best I could but upon finishing the most recent version, 0.9 at the time of writing, I wish I hadn't.

What is the gameplay then? It's just resource management, that was not an exaggeration the moment to moment game play is to click through different backgrounds and interact with objects doing this costs stamina, occasionally you fight enemies this costs health and possibly stamina and also possibly ammo, later in the game you can cast spells but it curses you which is another resource, and you need to have enough food not to die. I wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay if I'm honest it's too simple to be engaging on it's own and too complex for a porn game so it ends up being more of a burden than anything else. Though to be fair I cheated and only had to manage resources for the first few hours until I found the cheat menu. Perhaps I would have found the gameplay more interesting on it's own had I not cheated, but I again I don't want interesting gameplay I want virtual titties. I will mention that the pacing of difficulty seemed apt for the game, it felt the game was growing with the player even if it didn't really effect me. Pacing, by the way is gonna come up a few times here so be for warned.

Story then, is it any good? Yeah actually the story is quite good, might be the games biggest strength, which also might be damning praise you don't know yet. It starts with the titular MIST that consumes all men except 1 who is spared this fate, you! Wonderful and cool you. You then save a nearby camper from a monstrous being presumably born of the mist and that jump starts the story. The mystery's start to slowly unravel as you try to survive and learn more about the mist. This story has the best pacing in a porn game I've ever played, even if you did cheat and didn't try to keep the pacing intentionally slow like I did the story will still stop you from progressing and builds itself up. It's genuinely intriguing and interesting, more so the further in you get. I said "best pacing in a porn game" just a second ago and I feel I should clarify that more, this stories pacing is unbeatable in the porn game space, it's on par with non-porn indie games I can't mention. There are a few lost idea's here and there but they're all small and forgettable one thing among many more I will praise this developer for is that they're focused.

Okay now we talk about characters, of which there are 6 in total. There is You, Robin, Mia, Lily, "THE EYE", and The villain. Not gonna spoil anything I swear. The characters are well written, each character has a unique voice and their own personality, Mia seems to be the favorite as there are more scenes with her than the other girls despite her showing up second. Mia also showcases one of the things I personally didn't like too much, something you might not have as much of an issue with. The game can be a bit too serious for my taste, Mia is the best example, not giving anything away but when she joins the harem she's kind of traumatized from her experience in the MIST to the point where she has panic attacks and it becomes a big part of her character and how she develops, and I liked her development but again, and I cannot make this more clear, I am here to masturbate, not deal with my new wife's tragic past.

Then there's the dialogue, holy tap dancing Christ is there way too much dialogue. You don't need dialogue walls to create a character, you don't need to repeat information the player already knows 20 times, if they didn't pick it up tough shit, it's Ren'py too they can scroll back. Most importantly you don't need the inner monologue to explain to the player how thePC is feeling the player should be able to figure it out if you lay out the PC's character well enough, you don't need to explain to the player how they should react when someone the PC's loves is in danger, they should understand perfectly well. Still the game lets all the characters develop very well, though I did feel they left Robin behind a bit, It's paced well, oh look that word again, hmmm.

What about the art, the porn bit's, the sex, the muff diving? The art is good IMO I think the girls should have more pronounced facial expressions during the deed but other than that the art is quality, even though it's 3D which I know some people aren't into. But now we need to get into the real meat and potatoes, my real visceral problem with this game. The gameplay's pacing is good, so is the stories and the characters but none of that is as important in a porn game than the pacing of the sex scenes. When they show up and how often you can repeat and expand on them trumps all else, and that's the one area where this game lacks, and it lacks hard. It takes forever to get to sex scenes and that's with me cheating and on the easier difficulty, I can't even imagine trying this on a harder one, you'd be lucky if you see a nipple by hour 5. The main issue is the game likes to get to points with each character and then not focus on the sex basically at all for hours and most of the gameplay is so void of any sexual content that you forget you're playing a porn game until you finally progress a little with someones story then all of a sudden SEX. There are points where it really feels like the developer just forgot what we're all here for. It gets better later and there is a gallery but even still ya get board of seeing the same scenes multiple times, at least change up the dialogue in the scenes. This is by far my biggest gripe with the game, I hate how long it takes between scenes and how much of the sex scenes seem to revolve around Mia as opposed to the 2 other fuckable characters, I would assume that's more of a patreon voting issue though.

In conclusion I'd say the game is almost too good for it's chosen genre, There is a lot of talent and hard work on screen. This game was made by a motivated individual whom I commend. I recommend the game despite my own gripes because I think it's a good game and should be played even if I think it isn't the best "porn" game I've ever played.

really interesting story, expect a little bit grind (really not that much, and it wasn't even annoying) the animations are awesome and i really like the style of the game.

only thing i would critize a bit (but that is a personal matter of taste) that it would be nice if the girls would be interact with each other more. maybe the developer avoids that because some people could say it would be NTR

all in all this game is great . really like the story so far and the voice (sex sounds) are perfect.

Mist has a fun story that is not too repetitive and great animations. There is actual fights and gameplay which is not always present in visual novels. I am eagerly awaiting the full release and will be supporting the devs as well.

Seems like a good game, unfortunately it is extremely linear and has only generalized in game guide, which means you have to do a lot of clicking to find the trigger to move on. Playing in gather mode increases the grind exponentially.
The art is awesome if you don't count the faces, the dialog is a bit lacking but passable.

I usually don't play visual novels, even if they include puzzles (looking at you NLT) and this one blurred the line a bit but all in all, not a bad effort.

Superb animation. Very interesting and involving story. A game made with a lot of love.
There are few icky sides, like a protagonist with a way too big cock and some very insanitary and gross acts. But the good points heavily outweigh that.
It's the kind of game you'll love for its story.

The game has a very good story (at least so far). The game mechanic is simple and allows good enjoyment of the content provided. Also,the characters seems to have a very good persona/traits to make you care for them.

I am genuinely invested in the characters and the story.
Superb game that I love soo much that the wait is killing me to see where the story goes from here.
Best girls in a perfect harem setup that doesn't have any cheesy shit or overplayed troupes.

Good gameplay, excelent animation, textures and models. Cartoonish, but good 3D. Also intereresting story and characters. Would play again when finished. Good waste of time, not really difficult or too easy.

Outstanding art animation and writing. TBCS is pretty great too. Really pushed the limits of what renpy can do. All around fantastic game. Cannot wait for the conclusion.
Might be a bit on the linear side but does not detract from the experience at all.

Ich really like this game.
The style is unique and it has a good story. It is rare that i want to know whats happening in next update and dont care for sex scenes.
But i dont like the growing insulting dirty talk, it doesnt match the characters of the girls. And the mc seems to more and more of an asshole because of it.

There are things in this game I love, and feel earn it a high rating, and things I am very critical of that I feel pull it down.

In the end, I have to stick with 3/5

So, pros:
-Despite occasional typos, misspellings, and grammar issues (all of which are minor), the game is competently written, and easy to follow as a result
-The story itself is interesting, and the horror elements serve it well
-The combat system, while simple, is effective
-The environments are very well done, and (as far as I can tell) unique to this game
-The animations are top-tier
-The girl's have great bodies

So, with a list of pros like that, the cons have to hit hard, to take it down two stars.
Cons:
-Linear story. Apparently no choices or branching
- Playdoh people. Despite decent bodies, the faces and hair (and mc's cum) all look like they were made of playdoh.
-Exploration, building/upgrading home, and player equipment, are also all too linear. Without random events or much to collect outside of food, exploration becomes tedious. You can only do upgrades as given. when given. Weapon upgrades given at set points.
-The dirty talk. Very subjective, obviously, but I'm not a fan of ANY of the dirty talk in this game, and find some just gross. Hurts the scenes
-Lack of lesbian content, largely speaking. There was a lot of time, pre-Lily joining, for Robin and Mia to have some time together, or to double team MC. Never played off. Yes, some lesbian content does happen later, but considering the scope of the game and exceedingly limited cast (and intimate living conditions) it feel almost unjustifiably lacking


I don't know. I LIKE the game. I want to see it through to the end for the sake of the well written story. I certainly don't think people should avoid this one. And I respect the effort put in to animate so much of the game in every way. But I feel it's flaws should be acknowledged.

Very good game, still didn't finish, but the scenario is really good! And the dialogues is pretty vivid, and i love the "dramatic" vibe of the world. , Hope that the developer continues the good work

Meh stuff
1) Protag is kinda bland and robotic? It feels really unnatural at times.
2) Inconsistent cock size.
3) Most of the sex scenes are hot af visually. Protags writing... ugh.

Bad stuff
1) Some illogical immersion breaking stuff. Why would the protag risk his life and his groups safety to search for some paint near the bad guys base?
2) Combat. It gets stale quickly. You'll be doing the same shit over & over again with very little variety & progression.
3) Story is pretty much linear. Choose the order you view events. Grind. Rinse & repeat.

Holy fucking shit I don't know what to say... this game is amazing.

I really enjoyed the story and the girls are amazing too.
My personal fav is Lily (patch) but honestly they are all amazing.
MC is one lucky mofo.

I really like the the unique art style, it's really refreshing after playing so many DAZ or HS games.

The dialogue was also really good and the animations are top notch.


I chose to play the game without having to worry about food but I enjoyed the minigames and the combat.

I think the only thing that could ruin the game now would be a stupid ending for it.
Something like: it was just a dream or everything back to normal, humanity restored or where you'd lose your wives.

I hope the dev doesn't do that.

Personally I'd prefer it if the aftermath of the apocalypse was permanent but that goes into my wishful thinking.

Final words:

Game is great. Play it. Made me nut harder than anything else I played recently.

I've realised I only really put the effort in to review games I thouroughly enjoy - which already tells you this is a the least, thoroughly positive. To elabourate: once this is finished, I need to replay it from the start, as well as Once in a Lifetime, to work out which my favourite VN is, because this is great.

Characters: A more limited cast than similar games, to the benefit of the game itself. A good amount of focus is had on each girl, and they are all stylistically different - for the most part. I will say the sex angles make them a little more interchangable than they could be, but story wise they're great. Perahps a ;ittle inconsistency in the characters sometimes, but nothing truly immersion breaking. They are introduced and developed well, and I think any of the 4 could easily be anyones favourite.

Renders: 5/5 excellent, the animations here are... fucking ace, no other words for it. The game is definitely stylised, and the chosen art style may turn a few people off. That's a shame if so, you're missing out on a good game - but I would get it, it's probably not for everyone. But the animationms are great, and it's clear every scene is rendered with care.

Story and Writing: Writing quality isn't top notch, but it's good, 4/5 stars. Plot is good, familiar beats, well executed, maybe another 4/5 stars. What I think makes this a 5 star for me, is a few twists I actually didn't see coming, but more importantly, the pacing. I was sucked in for (I'm bad at estimating time), somewhere between 5-15 hours playing this from the start to current end point, and was kept with pretty damn rapt attention the whole time. The "morale boost" idea is the exact cliche you think it is, and is reasonably justified. I feel like we could have a couple of Nori ones after she's really introduced, both physical and in dreamspace.

The Sex: I hate to say 4.5, but there could be a bit more variety. Everything presented is stellar, but a bit more variety for each girl, and little more between the 4 would be great. I want to say 5, my heart says 5, the animation says 5 - but we could do with just a little more variety.

Mechanics and Gameplay: 5/5, perfect balance of not too complicated for a porn game, but engaging enough to keep me playing, and provide a feeling of investment. The fact that the dev provides this option up front through is great. Couple of bits of UI could be improved IMO - particularly a reminder that Mai isn't doing anything after a project, so that you remember to send her out for other stuff, but that's minor. Also, a slight mixed bag - I really enjoyed the inline animations with the game, when moving to new areas. It wore a little thin personally by the end, but with the skip option always present... yeah, really good.

Regarding pacing, I will say that I did play on feast mode, my opinion of the story pacing and gameplay might change if I didn't - I'm going to replay from the start on scavengar when the final release is out. Because story wise, I feel the first part of the girls proprosing morale boosts, and accepting the situation is great, but it does feel like in the middle there is a hop skip and a jump where it accelerates a little quickly - and perhaps playing as intended would work that out, so I look forward to my replay when the final version hits.

Closing Notes and Thoughts: it's great, up there with my favourites, and it might actually be my favourite. Something about the combination of everything I've talked about makes me feel this game is better than the sum of its parts, and when you have parts as good as these animations, you get something amazing. I probably need to be harsher in my reviews, I'm always really positive - but writing this, I've been as critical as I can possibly be.

A good game overall, the character models are interestingly different from the usual stuff, which was kind of refreshing.

Dialogue is reasonably well done, although as always limited by the genre. The questing isn't super tedious if you take the no-food-gathering option, and is a reasonable way of breaking things up. The story is more of a focus than the scenes, and if that's your thing you may enjoy it.

A decent mystery-type story which sets things up (somewhat) believably.

Animations are pretty decent, and there are quite a few, although they are relatively short and there aren't many choices to be made. A slight annoyance is that there appear to be only two or three audio lines for everything. Better than nothing perhaps?

The game is really good, and that makes me want more updates as soon as possible, but the more updates that the game receives the closer it gets to ending it, and i really dont want that to happen any time soon. So the game is Excellent, but that makes me hate it because i know its going to end someday, and i dont want it to happen.
