I don't like this one.

I really don't.

Just needs a couple lights to bring out her features more :) Don't sweat it, getting lighting to work well is one of those forever journeys that takes a LOT of practice, and I'm still blown away by some of the renders people post here. Maybe look into photography tutorials/courses or just examples of how lights at different angles interact with a face.

One thing that's become very clear to me is that the environment itself NEVER lights up a character enough - you always have to add some spotlights to create the desired effect. (Which is good because that gives you a lot more control over the mood of a scene!)

As an example, here's a shot of the fam from my project:

Here's the lighting setup I used to create it: (Bunch of custom mesh-based lights I put up for download here )

Without the extra lights, this is what I get - it doesn't accentuate their features and looks fairly dull. Most of my renders pre-lighting are even worse than this, I was surprised how not-awful this was. (But it's exterior/HDRI lighting, that's always easier)

I like to have light coming in from both sides of the characters. This lets me play with contrast a lot - warm/cold lights, front/back lights, bright/subtle lights, exterior/interior lighting, etc. But there's lots of different approaches to play around with! Good luck :)
