To start us off on what Monster Girls' Labyrinth is, I'll let this review on the itch.io page explain for me:
The final boss!
It has the most HP of all the enemies (of course), so you'll be dumping all your Fire Scrolls on her before you resort to regular attacks (deal 20 damage max, aka 1/3rd of a Fire Scroll). After about 2-3 Fire Scroll's worth of damage, the boss does something I found very interesting: she cuts off the moving line if it goes past the middle of the bar when you're defending!
What does that mean? If you don't hit spacebar before the line reaches the middle of the bar, the boss cuts you off and hits you for MAX damage. I'm talking two-shot levels of damage! This was the most damage I'd ever received, even against the mini-boss midway through the game. It was also the first time I died in the game!
This caught me off guard, and forced me to change the way I lined up the line to the middle of the bar. Before, I let the line hit the right side of the bar and hit spacebar as it bounced back to the middle: this strategy got me through the WHOLE game. The fact I now had to break this habit I formed , this complacency... that impressed me a lot!
Once I finally got the hang of this new rhythm, the boss fight went on. She later began to cut me off during my attacking phase as well, but that wasn't as devastating to my run. And then... I won!
As I enjoyed the triple sex scene (three times more than all the other enemies I faced) that followed my win and watched the credits roll, I thought about how this game, with its simple combat mechanics, was able to change its formula a bit to give me a compelling challenge. I know this is probably bare minimum expectations from a video game and boss fights, but it's something I wasn't expecting from an adult game!
I haven't played too many adult RPGs, so I look forward to seeing how more of them change up their gameplay like this!
As you can see, the gameplay isn't that complex, it's just a matter of getting the moving bar as close to the middle as you can when attacking or defending. Furthermore, I feel like the game could have been much shorter (less rooms) to reduce the repetition of encountering regular enemies like the Mimic and the Wolf. So, what prompted me to make to write this post?Girlzilla writes... A nice, simplistic dungeon crawler that offers about 20-30 minutes of gameplay featuring little more than half a dozen erotic animations upon victory. Combat is simple, involving a moving bar with a line that goes back and forth and requiring a input spacebar. The closer to the middle you manage to get, the more damage you do and less damage you take.
The dungeon 'floors' are small, decorated in a black and white aesthetic that's easy for the eyes, but featuring color for select enemy appearances. You can get through each Floor in about 2-4 minutes, even if you fully explore them.
The game is generous with gold for the shop, I highly recommend purchasing Fire Scrolls for the final boss, and stocking on potions. The 'heal' purchase is also incredibly handy, as it fully heals the protagonist on purchase, cheap to buy, only 5 gold.
After finishing the game, you are able to see all erotic animations with a gallery on the main menu.
For it's asking price of only $3 USD, it's cheap and worth its dollar for a quick game like this.
5/5 Rating.
