Most of the older games i have tried recently just completely crash when i try to launch them.
Using shift when launching doesn't do anything, so i cant change the rendering method. All drivers are up to date, the log files are some variation of

the only thing that sticks out to me is that they are run in w8, which is really weird since i have w10.

I'm kinda lost for solutions, so any help would be greatly appreciated

Here's some threads that can help you to avoid having to copy/paste:
https://f95zone.to/threads/can-t-open-games.10712/
https://f95zone.to/threads/solved-problem-with-renpy-games.40382/

But since you mentioned "older games", I am fairly sure it's due to the fact you're opening the 32bit executable.
If you care enough, you can rebuild in 64bit (or download renpy and open the game folder as a project and run it from there).
Recompiling the game works, I'm so used to working with other engines i didn't even consider that you can recompile Ren'Py games. Thanks for the help!

Welp recompiling the game introduced a new problem. the game i tried is kindred spirits on the roof and it works until you get to the planer, after that you cant continue onwards with the game. the even weirder part is that i can run the game on my virtual machine without problems (except for the performance ofc)

try changing the renderer again or selcting with the keyboard.

or look up in the script what code is used for clicking there and check with renpy documentation to see if the command for it has changed.

The problem seems to have been my 100 year old cpu drivers, for whatever reason my auto updater gave up on life a while back
