Simple question: Do you prefer (adult!) games to have music playing in the background or to play it silently?
I personally mute the music in every adult game as soon as I hear the main theme. Why? Because it sux most of the time. If there are two sliders for music and sfx, I tend to keep the sfx, but not the music.
I know everybody has their own taste, but if you know a adult game that could prove me wrong, please post it^^

It really depends on the game for me. For the action or adventure type games I tend to turn the music off and play something of my choosing but there are a few romance/slice of life games that have some music, usually soft piano tracks playing that I don't mind and leave playing.

Having music is always a plus, but I find especially more sandbox style games just feel dead without it. I remember back when Summertime Saga had no music and people would post links to the Sims soundtrack to play in the background.

I never have the music on, many times the ones that do have music have very loud music in the beginning that has been a bit shocking many times, so I mostly always turn my sound off when starting games.

Sound effects can be really nice but few games have them! I think during sex scenes they can sometimes be great(not those stock japanese ones tho....).

So my vote was "SFX Only!". :coffee:

I used to mute everything (mostly because I absolutely don't want to hear any sex-related sounds), but lately I've been keeping music to see if I like it or not. So, it's really on game to game basis now.

I tend to mute most games I play and have a video or music playlist on in the background so I guess it really depends if the game has, by some reviews decent music/voice acting I play with it on and give it a try otherwise I'll just play with it muted.
I've never really cared for sfx in adult games so if that's there is then it would be muted.

I prefer if the game has it's own music and sound. Generally the ones that do have sound and music that fits the theme for each scene which would not be the case if I just played whatever random music I wanted in the background. I do play my own music if a game has no sound but to me music and sound is as important to a game as sense of smell is to food.

Playing a game without sound is like eating food when I have a nasty cold and can't breath through my nose. It just tastes wrong.

So... I used stock music, but I went to a lot of effort to get the score to match and change at the right times to set the right mood.
I also rather accidentally made a puzzle that required the player to hear sound ques.
Golly, a lot of people get stuck on that puzzle.

I have to agree. In most games, you either have to turn off the music or set it to a minimum. As a rule, these are small fragments that are repeated over and over again. Sometimes they don't match what's happening on the screen. This is understandable, each of them passes dialogues in different ways and at different speeds. Background music is boring from its monotony and usually does not Shine with variety. Another thing is the screensaver! There are games in which the main theme music is selected very, very well. For example: PineFalls, BecomeARockStar, Secrets... Can there is and still - not managed in all play. :)
But without music at all, it's also bad. Sometimes I turn the game on to sound to distract myself from my thoughts or to make it more fun)))

I can't stand the music in most games I download on this site, they're ill-fitting at best. Rock music BLASTING in the intro with it's only purpose seemingly being to deafen me. Most of it just doesn't fit and it just feels like a waste of time on the developer's part.

If a game doesn't have some well designed moods, wheter it be for the sex scenes or for the normal gameplay then that is a bad game. Thus it goes without saying that imo a well placed and fitting music goes a long way to setting up a scene's mood and I like that a lot.

I really feel well-used music adds a lot to a game; you can really help set the mood, set expectations, etc. Of course, like everything, if you do it badly it ends up pulling you down.

Honestly, I mute my speakers anytime I play/read any VN/Game in this niche industry... It's why you never see me even mention music or sounds in any of my reviews... I really do not need to hear a bunch of sex noise for erotic content, or hear pointless sound effects for things like knocking on doors and so on...

As to music, much of what is used is either not being used with permission, or royalties are probably not being payed, or it is just basic melodies created for public use... It's rare if any erotic VN/Game is using original musical works by one of the developers... Especially with the threat that someone will steal it for their own monetary gain... And lastly, if the story telling is done right, the mood should be set by the story text, not by mood music, at least for me...

Just like when I'm reading a good book, I want to be immersed in the story, not distracted by unnecessary sounds and music...

When I read any Visual Novel, erotic or otherwise, I expect the story telling to set the mood, create the setting, and instill the intended emotions... The visuals are there as a bonus to help in telling that story... Occasional sound effects are just unneeded flash, that for me, don't add much to the immersion or are unnecessary... I think when sexual sounds are used in a Visual Novel, they actually detract from the story telling, and are a bit of a cop out by the developer from using text instead, to portray the erotic event... It's less effort to just paste in a sound effect, then to add more length to an erotic encounter with more images and text, which for me seems a bit lazy when the scenes use sexual sound effects... If you ever look at many Japanese Visual Novels, when it comes to sexual encounters, they use dialogue and monologue and story text to create the atmosphere of erotic fervor... It adds emotional depth to the encounter... Where as adding some sexual sound effects doesn't have the same impact... It feels more like a gimmick in a visual novel/game... I'm sure some folks probably do like sexual sound effects, but I could go watch some real porn with all sorts of sexual sounds if that is all I wanted... I prefer more intimacy through the story telling and dialogue within a well created visual novel/game, then hearing actors making noises, in a vid or otherwise...
