I have an issue: I save the game and then when I go to "quit" and restart the game, my saves are gone and I have to start over. Any ideas?

Got beaten to mentioning the update, but I can add that you can only access the new content after beating the game, and do so by visiting the guild according to the update notes.

The guild asks you to gather samples of the creatures on the beach, which is achieved by defeating each of the four enemy types there (starfish, squid, anemone, and whale). The anemone only appears in the cave and the whale seems to only rarely appear in the lower area. All that happens after you collect all four is some dialogue.

Nope. Four basic enemies, no boss, no defeat event, no sukumizu.

Starfish, squid, whale (vore), and an anemone (rope walking...ish, but not great...).
