Hey everyone!
Today marks exactly 5 years since I joined F95zone — total coincidence, but kind of funny that it’s also the day I finally decided to start my first project. Feels like a sign, maybe?
I’ve been thinking for a while about diving into making my own game, and I’m finally ready to take the first step. I want to create a visual novel-style game using RenPy, with renders made in Daz3D.
I'm a programmer by background, so I'm pretty comfortable with the RenPy side of things — scripting, branching logic, systems, etc. But when it comes to Daz3D, I’m a complete beginner. So if you have any tips, tutorials, or just general advice for someone starting out with renders and character design, I’d be really grateful!
I’m still deciding whether to go full visual novel (linear) or to include sandbox elements from the beginning. A linear story might help me avoid burnout and keep scope manageable, but sandbox gameplay is something I’m drawn to as well. Just not sure if it’s smart to attempt it on a first project.
If anyone has experience with this kind of decision, or just wants to share some thoughts, I’d love to hear them.
Also, I’m not planning on setting up a Patreon or anything like that for now. I’d rather wait until I get some feedback and know that I’m on the right track.
Thanks for reading, and again — 5 years on this forum today! It’s a fun coincidence, and it just feels like the right time to finally go for it.
Looking forward to your feedback!
