seems like the main issue was pure volume effecting quality, and a lack of writers. Early on they had a couple writers afaik and releases were between 2-4 months with the same writer. Nowadays its almost always the same writer (one of their main quit like 2-3ish yr ago and cited burnout) releasing a new title every month and 90% of titles is ntr or nts. Imagine if you had to make 12 new and different stories a year all within the same genre, honestly its mind numbing. So all we can do is avoid the slop and hopefully catch the bangers. Also length is also an issue as the game length leads to faster progression and lack of character building which imo is essential for any NTR/NTS. Look at their best ones, Marina was 3 games, and Mayumi was 2 games.
Edit: Also they lost some good artists like Gentle Sasaki and Nagayori

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the translation of the 1st Soredemo Tsuma by Lune.
And that sht is soooo long to translate that I perfectly understand why no one wants to translate it for free.
I mean it's around 15 years now that the game was first released, the only time I ever got proof that someone was doing a fan translation was back around AIM, and that was long a** time ago.

But Atelier is still better off than Appetite, how many games have they had now that are basically 30-40min (20min if you're at reading) playthroughs? I'm sure it's past 200...

Not only the story, but it seems that the sex scene now is boring and short, just 1 cg and a few dialog and then it ends, I guess maybe they pay higher to the new artist than their old one and they can't afford it anymore, they are not even making a female pov anymore like what they did in the past (you know the one that you can unlock in the extra replay gallery after completing the game)

The description is a bit difficult to follow.

The main character, Tomoaki Kasu (MC), grew up in this town with his childhood friends Naomi (FML) and Kotaro (MFriend1) from a young age.

And we all lived crappily ever after the end. Jeez I know you can only do so much with NTR but at least try to come up with something new.

I know! It's horrible to base a scenario on a detestable character who is so savagely damaged that he only gets hard when he sees his loving and blameless wife being abused by essentially rapists. So I usually rewrite it in my mind to a happier, more loving plot. Old limp dick finally goes to a doctor to get his dysfunction diagnosed and learns he has an inoperable brain tumor and just a couple of months to live. So he is trying to find a next mate to take care of his wife and give her the child she's deperate to have. It's a much more "Hallmark Movie" plot except the cuck dies horribly and the innocent wife lives happily ever after with her new husband and a bunch of their kids.
I guess it shows my reaction to these stories when a malignent brain tumor is the happier, sunnier alternative to the original mindless cuck plot!

In fact, you can do a lot with NTR, but some aspect of it are underused.
Let's for exemple speak about avoidable NTR. It's a subgenre of NTR where you, who play the MC, tried to save the FMC from NTR. Generaly speaking (they are notable exception), where it exist, it's a sideshow with very little sex in it.
But you could do so much with it. I mean if you care about the relation between the MC and the FMC adsn treat that as a somewhat horror game, you know what would happen if you don't save the FMC asap. So yeah you better move your ass to avoid that shit happening.
And that's only one way of being inventive, and i'm only being vague here.
