New developer here, what is the general consensus on AI art?

A developer who makes a game with AI images and a developer who makes their game with Daz do the same programming. Wrong term. Single devs of adult games wear two hats. One is developer, the coding. The other is artist, the art.
And yet one of them is trying harder.

I think AI art can be used as a tool when you're working. But if you're serious about creating a quality game then you should consider at least heavily editing the AI art with your own work (or a digital artist you've paid).

You say your background is in IT and you're comfortable with coding. Are you familiar with the concept of a "game jam"? I highly recommend you start simple with a set time frame in mind. Don't worry about the game being good. Just bang something simple out and then iterate on your work until more complex mechanics/plot lines are easier.

The sheer amount of would-be porn devs that start their first project with grandiose aspirations (10+ love interests, branching story paths, optional sex animations, the works!) is infuriating. It is a surefire recipe for an abandoned game and no one wants that.

Do yourself a favor. Make a short game with two or three love interests. Use AI art if you want. And make it clear in the description this is your first project and you're using it as a learning experience. I'll bet you'll encounter a lot less complaints about the art and probably get more useful player feedback too.

Good luck.

I'd much rather play a purely-text based game than one with AI art.

AI can't consume porn like a human can, and thus cannot make porn like a human can.
"The Fly" (1986)

Seth Brundle:
The computer is giving us its interpretation... of a steak. It's, uh translating it for us; it's rethinking it, rather than *reproducing* it, and something is getting lost in the translation.

Ronnie:
Me... I'm lost.

Seth Brundle:
The flesh. It should make the computer, uh crazy. Like those old ladies pinching babies. But it doesn't; not yet because I haven't taught the computer to be made crazy by the... [smiles at Ronnie] flesh. The poetry of the steak.

AI and RPGM... Make sure to add NTR to tick all the boxes.

More seriously, if you have a programming background, godot is much more flexible and modern than RPGM.

IMO, AI art keeps improving. It's getting better and better. However, it's still not there yet. The lighting is the biggest problem.

It's a brilliant idea.
Only one problem is the AI operator it is human. I see that many operators don't have the artistic experience to even pick the best rendering option. And that brings down the overall level for billions of images.

I feel a barrier between me and the AI image. Traditional art is enough for me to have fun with. However, I can see how I can use AI to improve my DAZ renders (minor improvements). I can use Photoshop to do the job, but after all, AI is now built in there as well.

Me and my friends generally skip games that have Ai art, usually because of our preferences and the ethics behind it as we are artists ourselves, I'm not against it personally but a lot of Ai art really misses the mark on what makes something look sexy to me. But I'm more concerned about your choice of engine, people here generally prefer renpy or unity, RPGMaker games tend to have the reputation of being a walking or click spam simulator. If you're gonna go full steam ahead on this make sure you're prepared for everyone to hate it and be extra critical because you're combining 2 of the most relatively unpopular (according to the general opinions of the forum) things here. Ai art and RPGMaker.
