Ren'Py Daz Newbie Writer Looking into VN's

Dear misters and madams,

I've come to appreciate NSFW VN's over the past year and have been a bit frustrated that I could no longer find ones with the kinks that I have. So I am now learning to pose correctly in DAZ as well as managing the lighting alongside learning to make simple code in Ren'Py with the help of guidelines from this community and its documentation.

That being said, my first attempt at a game will be posted here when I finish the first chapter (Not monetizable), but at the same time I am making a parody (Mostly based on Lust Academy/HP Universe and my fanfiction. with some changes, and I figured if I use similar models it should be fine? Some good people here say that's dangerous, others keep doing it so I don't know... I've no expectations to monetize my hobby as I'm doing this to learn more about DAZ/Ren'Py and as a passion, and I will probably post questions on this thread in the future as well.

So are these models a bit too on the realism side?

Thank you for your criticism and constructive feedbacks!

Those dead eyes make them look very uncanny. Totally needs work on the facial expressions.
I assume the floating and them feeling deattached from the background is done on purpose. The lighting looks good, but with some post processing it could be even better.
I definitely saw much worse renders on ongoing projects, so you can definitely make something successful with those, good luck.

Mr. Winterfire, you are everywhere! Thank you for the luck, I will need it!

Yes, the detachment and dead eyes were intended. This is how these models look as-is, no modification whatsoever, rendered in 2 minutes.
Still need to fix clipping through the sneakers:

Legally, while kind of shitty, the Lust Academy team can do fuck all to you. They don't own the rights to the figures, the meshes, or the models. What they effectively paid (presumably, given their likely profits.) Daz for was the right to use said models/meshes/etc. in a 2D environment (a render, in this context.). Nothing more, nothing less. Unless you copy a render pixel for pixel (or outright steal it), there's absolutely nothing they can do to you. Harry Potter? Depending on what you use, that's a completely different story. Change any recognizable logos, trademarks, or names. Even if you aren't profit off of it.

Still need to fix clipping through the sneakers:
Is this your render? Feels like a completely different artist did this versus the ones in the OP. The only criticism I have for this one (outside of the aforementioned clipping) is probably the lack of depth of field. If you can afford the extra VRAM, you should always have some level of DoF. Might also be a touch too washed out. But that's pretty clearly an intentional/stylistic choice.

I could point out stuff like framing/angles, and general composition (that goes beyond the rule of thirds), and using them to accent your lighting, but that's all stuff that'll come with experience anyways.

Yes, that's my first attempt at rendering the Kylie model, after I made 180 renders with G9 male protagonist and realized that the models I wanted were all G8 . So I am redoing the renders and also applying DoF (redid 60 already pretty happy with), thank you so much Mr. (Mrs.?) MissFortune for the suggestion!

And regarding Lust Academy/HP universe, I meant I am not copying names/brands, but I will do something similar. My concern was whether the models were too realistic vs. their real counterparts. But that fear alleviated when I noticed Whores of Thrones also try to mimic their counterparts.

"Parody" is considered a "Fair use" under the copyright regimes in pretty much all the developed countries in the world. Even if that was not the case, there's no protection for "approximate look" in media. As long as you're not using the actually trademarked names like Harry potter or hogwarts then there is no problem. A student of "Whorequartz College" named "Henry Popper" with glasses and a forehead scar is immediately recognizable to players, but is no legal risk to you.

Thank you, Mr. Osanaiko, this makes me happy to hear! Perhaps after a few chapters and if people really like it, I can accept just a few donations

Most sensible solution. If you go in expecting to earn a living wage from porn games, you'll be 99/100 times disappointed. Probably the most common reason why there are so many abandoned 0.1's out there.

Go nuts, throw it out there and then you should look for financial options. But most importantly, have fun with the craft.

Took a break and came back to redo my entire render sequence (Used a G9 Protagonist, but I preferred the G8 more).

Although the lighting here is required for the significance of the image, I am still struggling with correct lighting contrast on my protagonist (In a train for example).

This is Kylie with post-process (Upscaled with TopazAI).

While I'd like the protagonist to be a bit more lighted up? I saw the lightwork in the game, University of Problems and it was quite clear and nicely shot, so I'd want to replicate it going forward.

Image gamma looks a bit off, off with the colors, or maybe it's just the post-process/in-DAZ train model. In any case, it's such a great tool to use.

Another 500 or so renders to go before first chapter is done! Hope I don't lose interest...

Almost done with the Prologue, whew. Should be done in a week at this rate, if I get lucky.

I found that Bright post-process in Lightroom Classic works best in this environment.

PS: I managed to fix the sneakers clipping issue, Ms. MissFortune! (+ The washed out colours).

I was going to respond to this thread before, but I got side-tracked. In most footwear, when you have toes and feet clipping, the easiest fix is to just hide the toes and/or feet on your model. Way more efficient than trying to mess with the footwear or using meshgrabber or anything else.

Another tip about feet that is not readily apparent when you start using DAZ... When you click on the toes of a Genesis character, it only lets you select the whole group of toes together. But if you go to the Scene Tab, you can expand that and then select each individual toe and pose it separately. That's something to know when you are doing close ups of feet, or doing foot-play stuff.

Thank you, Mr. Turning Tricks! (By the way, I love your Whoremonger NTE game. I am striving to write dialogue and characterization like you!).

Also, yes, that is a solution. In my case, my problem was caused by myself, by using the Realistic Feet addon from Daz Marketplace, it distorted the feet too much. So I just resolved to use the vanilla sizes until the characters take them off.

And I started at the end of my Prologue to write the script first in VS Code for Ren'Py and then do the renders (I recently discovered Render Queue).

Found this out yesterday evening! Coincidence?

Again, thanks for your tips.

Besides selecting each toe individually, there are pose controls for each toe when you select the foot, the same as with the hand.
