How did you guys find the requirements for the office rival? I don't see an office rival YML or VM file for it in the official content folder
So the official content is for events made by 3rd parties and then integrated into the base game.
New events made by the developer themself go directly into the exe file, so you're just reading the decompiled code looking for clues.

I'm kind of in the middle of developing my own game loosely inspired by Newlife. I do think that this game has a ton of potential, and it's got quite a bit of content, though nowhere near as much as it should have given the 5+ years of dev. I think it's the mixture of both SO's lack of motivation and the technical debt of the code.

With that being said, since my game will likely target the same sort of people who play Newlife, what do you guys think are things that SO does well with Newlife, and what are perhaps things you think are just redundant?

For me personally, I think the customizable NPC system and high-level schedule that leaves a lot to imagination are some of the game's strongest points and are things I'd definitely try to implement in my own way for my game. On the other hand, I really could care less for the clothing system, since after replaying the game for x times (and this is for probably every other game out there), I really stop caring about what my character wears as long as it triggers things that it's supposed to trigger. Any thoughts?
The strongest point of this game is the sex mechanics. I think that's the major draw of Newlife and games similar to it like Degrees of Lewdity and Lillith's throne. There's something really special about a more open ended sex mechanic that lets the player actively participate in the sex scene by choosing their own options. It's hard for me to go back to games that have pre-written, static sex scenes after playing games like the above mentioned. The personality system and variables of the NPC's would be my 2nd favorite thing about it.

What I dislike is how bland and vanilla it is, how little options the player has in terms of dating, sex, romance. It's just... so damn vanilla with everything, there's zero rape, hell you can't even have lesbian sex in it. I'm not looking for extreme crap liek diaper porn but I mean come on, this game as vanilla as it gets. We can't even legitimately go lesbo and date a women, or better yet have actual transexuals in the game for the PC to date. I really, really don't like how it forces the player to strictly date men.

One of the starting options of this game is playing as a straight man that is forced into a womens body and the game is trying to convince me that this straight male instantly becomes super gay and wants to suck all the dicks as soon as he becomes a women, it's ridiculous. Females are already in the game, why not give them sex and dating mechanics? Why not add Transexuals in the game, variety is the spice of life.

Things I like the most:

The game is immersive.

How player choices, player/npc personalities, and in-game events all interact with each other. For instance, wearing no panties means that during the pre-presentation scene, the player character takes less time getting down to business. Or wearing a shirt to the pervy theatre makes it easier to "have some fun".

I appreciate how sometimes the game gives you control and sometimes takes it away. If my character has a normal/strong will but finds themselves losing that willpower through game events (selected traits, Ivy treatment, alcohol, etc.) then when I suddenly lose the option to say no, it really feels like the player character is "corrupted" or really in the mood.

The game is dynamic.

Sex scenes are incredibly interactive, and how player status affects actions in scenes and dialogue brings the scene to life. If the player character is really turned on, then if the NPC slaps their ass, they respond with passion. On the other hand, if the sex is awful, the player character might contain their frustration and start thinking about someone they like to cope (and this may turn them on, making the scene a dynamic event).

The wide variety of clothing choices may be a bit much, but the ability to choose what items of clothing to wear and to manipulate them during sex is brilliant. Say you want to tease your loved one but don't want things to go too far, you may opt to just take off your blouse and bra but leave the jeans on. Or if you're seducing the client, you may want to just pull up your skirt and pull aside the panties to get them off quickly before their wife peaks in. You can make a conscious choice to do these things, and while the system of clothing as is may be a bit complicated, it's better to have and not need then need and have not.

Things I don't like:

Too vanilla, so many more adventures are missing.

Where are lesbian relationships? Threesomes, Foursomes? Maybe more? Both with guys and girls. Why not have an option to work at a strip club, making accessing the prostitution stuff a little easier. Gloryholes? Maybe get tricked to go to one by a rival or dared by a friend when befriending? There should be optional non-consent content - getting stalked in the park. Taken advantage of by co-worker unwillingly, etc. Perhaps male content could be added, with a pre-game section where you play as a man and either have hetero/homo relationships. Could have post-game content too where you get changed back and can go about your life as a man!

Content updates too slow.

Just make the game open-source and allow for mods. It's easier to write than it is to animate IMO, so a bit of community help would be appreciated. Would allow for community patching of bugs too! Why do we only have 2 jobs and limited weekend activities? Why not work as a barista and get hit on yourself? Work in a movie theatre and catch people having sex (and maybe join in). Go for a walk in a park. Go to concerts on your own and meet new people!

Room for improvement:

Cues should be taken from Lilith's throne - their system of being able to change position after selecting one is wonderful. Would be nice to have an option to put clothes back on if willpower is high enough and it is possible. Like putting a bra back on after it's pulled down.

Would be nice to have a system of avatars: no animation needed but perhaps at least a few images to show sexual position, clothing of characters, and physical appearance. This could be done by the community too but it's a large undertaking.

And again, more consistent updates. If you end up getting good Pateron money, you should be producing content. If it's too difficult, take time streamlining the code and make adding more content easier.

There are my two cents :)

I decided to try to recreate this game on a more open basis, since the original is way too obfuscated to be moddable. My goal is not to recreate the game 1:1, but to provide a mostly identical experience with many more ways to customize the game and add new content than Newlife will ever have. I'm curious if anyone here is even interested in this sort of thing as I'm not going to be able to provide new content myself (I'm not much of a writer).

I should mention that I might drop the whole thing. It's often hard for me to keep focus on big projects. People here like to complain about the lack of work SO is willing to do for the game (and I mostly agree), but it turns out that recreating even just this anal sex scene is a ton of work.

YES!!! I was waiting for someone to do this, for such a long time! Please do it! This game...or rather your new game, needs someone who gradually puts out content and is way more moddable. It could be really popular and a really good game if it just had more content...
So if you decide to do this, I would really appreciate the work, might even support you through Patreon or something.

I don't know much about programming, but for the amount of money Ostrich is getting, he really doesn't do much, the game is pretty much the same as it was a year ago, he adds a event or two every month or so (the events are usually very simple too), he does like a few hours worth of work for a few thousand bucks a month (again I'm no expert, in fact i'm the opposite, so what do I know?), and lastly he's literally making thousands a month off this. He may be making other games though, but even still. i'm not a patreon so I don't really have a right to be annoyed or pissed, but i'm really kind of confused why anyone would even give this guy they're money.

I don't know anything about this game inner working but the progress so much slower compared to more massive similarly themed girl Sim like Accidental Woman

Honestly, if you poses the talent to build that on your own you're better off making your own game. If you're able to deploy to multiple platforms you will have a strong advantage.

Not sure. SO might be lazy/incompetent, but their writing is pretty good. It's a big deal for a text game and I don't think I'm anywhere close to that level.

For now I just want to see how difficult it is to make what this game does, hopefully in a more flexible way. If I can recreate makeout scenes, everything else should be relatively easy. We'll see where it can go from there.

If you're unsure about your writing skills, I can contribute. I tried to round up a couple guys here to do what you're trying to do, but I blew it. Project management just isn't part of my skillset.
