Well, if you want my take on this, you could have simply made a dialog between those two characters where Rachel is actually the one asking John for more work, wheelchair-san refuse, for the chores left aren't the kind that are stricly legal or whatever, and GF ask for it anyway. Simple, but yet context enough for merry old me.
