To me there are two types of NTR which are extremely different:
1) The avoidable NTR. The NTR is used either by an antagonist which is you need to defeat (Big Brother, The Tyrant, Babysitter). If you play the game "right" there is no reason to see the NTR, it'll only be there if you lose, either because the game is too hard for you, or on purpose (to see the scene). In these games I can identify with the MC because I'll avoid the scenes. Still I think it makes for an exciting game. Big Brother lost most of it's story drive after Eric was removed. So I like it as a game mechanic, but it's a bit of a waste of the scenes.
2) The non-avoidable NTR. The story is about a couple who want to try something new, or where the MC is failing as a husband. E.g. "The Adventurous Couple". Although the concept can excite me, I don't self-immerse here. The MC is somebody else and I don't identify with him.
