SAO NTR became popular because Fujino was the first one to make a koikatsu game on such a big level, and it was easier for it to become successful because SAO is one the most popular anime with a lot of beautiful female characters.

Honestly I’m surprised more developers don’t just make parodies instead of original stories. Re:Zero, Dress-up Darling, Love is War are all franchises desperate for any sort of parody. You can make a 5/10 game and it will be treated as a 8/10 game in terms of popularity and patreon subscriptions solely because of the parody. Of course you can never post it on DLSite or Steam so that’s probably a big drawback, and a single cease and desist letter will probably kill the game if it gets popular enough.

Fujino does many things really, really well. First of all he really makes the models looks "sexy". Before he was using koikatsu, he was using the maid game as base I think, but switched to koikatsu to make it easier afaik. Anyway the models just look good, they really work (they may not have the biggest fidelity etc, but they are well done).

SAO is a really good ntr setting. Asuna is a perfect ntr target and most people dislike kirito, so it helps make people be a bit more comfrotable with the ntr.

All of his games are REALLY good with hidden ntr. Its really what brought me to him and I think most other ntr enjoyers love hidden ntr as well. Again its just really well done. He started at the time when there werent that many games doing that, so he gained traction. Even now I dont think I can name a game that does hidden ntr at the same lvl.

Many innovative systems - the moving menu screens, the personality page with evolving character traits of asuna - much better than your "number of times heroine took it up the ass" that every dev does and thinks thats actually enough.

Just having a lot of fun with general systems and knowing how to make a scene fucking good. Like the mid combat hidden ntr - who knew that I could enjoy rpgmaker combat so much? Or making amazing scenes like when you are climbing the mountain for the rare food, its raining and you start seeing glimpses of whats happening in the treehouse to the right. Its just so fucking well executed.

Overall I feel Fujino is like Hangovercat. They are pretty popular so they attract the crowd of hipster ntr players who love to be "special" and hate on them. Are the games perfect? Hell no. But they do so many things so damn well that I would put them at the very very top of the whole genre. Stop letting "hype" and "popularity" dictate what you like and dislike.

EDIT: really, so many times I see some unknown developers shitty game here and a lot of people gush about it, when its pretty trash. But it has the effect of "oh no one knows this one! I bet I uncovered a hidden gem! I have such a special refined taste". I see this lately in all media, people love to overrate unknown stuff, underdog developers etc and hate on anything that is popular, is established and already has a fanbase. People love to be contrarian and I hate for really good works to be put down because of that.

The devs are usually nice, but the people there attach their whole persona to the game so any criticism of it = a criticism of them. And boy will they make sure their echochamber stays one.

Some of the mechanics you guys mentioned seem really good, I will try again eventually for sure. It would be a shame to miss out on it because of my first impression.

I was just at the crossroads at the time and needed more info before I decide is it worth pushing through, but then I got jumped lol. That's why I like this thread, no one attacks each other.

Regarding what you said about popularity affecting criticism earlier I want to say that I'm not like that personally. I can criticise any game regardless if it's popular or not, I'm just blunt like that. I also play games that have flaws all the time (most porn games do anyway). I will say this tho, I don't like majority of popular threads of the games I try because they are rarely on topic. Like you said nothing to do with games but more annoying than less popular ones.

I played it two years ago, felt the heroine’s faces and body during the scenes were a little weird, but passable. But the dicks made me turn it off. But even then, there was a lot of content and scenes. I can’t imagine how much there is now.

I’d say go ahead and play it. There’s enough content to where you can determine if you’ll like the full game or not. Was recently updated so it’s a good time to try it anyways.

It helps a lot SAO NTR is also a decent product game-wise and at least tries to tie into what it's parodying and have some sense of respect for it. There were two attempts made at Love is War on F95, both got abandoned pretty quickly and both were frankly quite barebones, ugly and not very interesting.

Hey!

I'm itching to play a new netorare game, but despite all my attempts, I can't seem to find one I like.

My favorite game, and the type of game I'm looking for, is essentially A Promised Best Left Unkept. So, a bullying antagonist and corruption (and decent cg), and especially a betrayal by the lover.

I should mention that I've already played the most common titles like SAO NTR, NTR Knight, Armored Suit Solgante, Nebel Geisterjaeger, Scars of Summers (and After), etc. (I know SAO NTR isn't finished, but I've lost interest in the story with the updates.)

But I can't find any games that are truly similar, unfortunately.

I played Turning the Page, which is close to "A Promised Best Left Unkept," but not really, especially in terms of the slow and "stupid" corruption.

And then I tried: Project Amelie Falls Over and Over Again and Fallen Priestess My Sisters Demonic Bloodline.

I wouldn't say they're bad games, but I lost interest in the first one's story, and I'm not really into the brother/sister dynamic of the other. Just like I'm not into the mother/son dynamic.

I should also mention that I tried "Shadow of Desire," but 3D isn't for me either.

I was recommended Henteria Chronicles, but unfortunately, I'm afraid I won't enjoy seeing a story told entirely in 2D sprites like the first six Final Fantasy games.

So, if you have any recommendations, I'm all ears!
