You're invading the town, you're a monster but I believe can transform into a humanoid. You corrupt different members of the town guard/scouts to get inside. And there's some sort of sorceress that is trying to stop you.
Combat was real-time action, not turn based.
The biggest thing I remember was the odd timing system for opportunities. Every character had an A or B encounter, with different animations for them.
I was fairly certain it was a Wolf RPG game but I looked through every wolf rpg listing and did not find it.
This was a fully released game by a japanese publisher, not an independant project.
