So, for those that worry about such things, the 'Latest Updates' feature of the F95Zone forum resizes/crops pics for display on the Updates pages. These sizes are different, depending on whether you are looking at games, comics, animations, or assets.
The sizes that I'm sharing below are gathered using the 'inspect element' function in Firefox.
'Displayed' sizes: (btw my current 'web browsing' monitor is 1366x768, not sure if that matters).
Games: 390 x 100
Comics: 227 x 250
Animations:390 x 200
Assets: 227 x 250
As far as I can tell, the first pic in the thread (in the relevant forum section) is the one used for the 'Latest Updates' promo pic. I tested this by swapping out the first (promo) image in my Comics thread, which used to be a wide banner (this was optimized for the 'old' latest updates layout) to an image that was scaled appropriately to take full advantage of the 227x250 Updates Page size. (681 x 750 in my case). When I rechecked the 'latest updates' page (a few pages back, I posted up my comic almost 5 months ago), it had 'swapped in' the new promo image, which looked much better than the 'cropped' version of the banner in my case.
There may be a tradeoff here, as the pic that appears at the top of the page for your thread works better if it's 'banner size'. That pic changes in size based on how wide your window is though, so 'optimizing' a pic for that might be a bit more challenging. You are probably better off just going with a 'multiple of the 390 x 100' size if it's a game you are posting up. Not sure how the thread 'picks' the image for the 'header' when it is created, but I'm guessing that it is the first pic in the thread at the time of thread creation. Our resident F95 software coder peep(s) is free to give us a clarification if said person(s) is so inclined.
I figured that this info might be helpful for those that create threads for their own (or other people's) games, comics etc.. either directly or by contacting a moderator to move your thread to the appropriate section after you create said thread if you are a 'mere mortal' like me.
Hope this helps!
