I haven't tried the new update but when is the school going to get an update, I'm not really interested in the arena content I've tried it but it just was what I was looking for.

The sound settings really don't work, the music is able to be turned down, but even turning down the sfx all the clicks make the loud sounds, the hovering over the potions on the left, etc.

The slight blur to settle would be nice if it was a setting you could turn off.

A great adventure novel/tale with new paths constantly opening up.

I like to think that I have a strange relationship with this game. I find the images of the Arena stained with violet light quite depressing and I don't like them that much. However, when I imagine the scenarios in my head, I see them a little differently and I like them.
Even in my imagination, Khalika is uglier than in her official image , but she's a great ally.

I played an old version many months ago and back then, you could end up enslaved or in some kind of magic school.
I've never played the magic school path and it's not easy to discover all the possibilities.

The only bad thing about this game is that if you lose your save file (as happened to me) it's impossible to return to the exact same point unless you remember every decision you made.
I know that if I start again, I won't get to the same point .

One thing I don't remember is whether there's RNG or a dice roll in the game's code at certain moments. Or are choices based on your stats? If not, perhaps you just need to write down each decision in a separate notebook. That way, you'll never lose a save :HideThePain:.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll immerse myself in this universe again over the Christmas period.

Play it again. 60k more words (focused on the gladiator ludus arc), 14 new images. It'll be good for you.

Highrock returns w/ the Harrowing (big, dark, magickal selection ritual) next month to kick off 2026.
Do we need to start a new game this update since my saves aren't persist and can't import save files?
You can import save files. Scroll down. But starting a new save is generally recommended each update.

No grind in Orphan. Read and use your imagination - it'll be a good exercise for you.

Otherwise, uh okay. Hope you find some "sex pictures" elsewhere, little buddy.
It's flickering on Android is there uh anyway to fix that?
Best fix would be to not play on Android.

Thanks for the interest, fellas. :illuminati:

Always interesting to read your posts, Picker.

14 new images in this latest Chapter (3.31) and I think they're generally better, more upbeat and polished than my early ones. Upbeat as in... brighter, maybe. But still moody. It's a moody game after all. I think different people will get different things out of it. Some will laugh, some will feel tense and curious, others inspired.

I've been thinking about Khalika a lot lately, especially revamping her earlier scenes. She doesn't seem as popular as some of the other characters, but she's quite compelling in my head. Finishing a new image for her right now that'll likely be added to the ogre fight in the arena.

The gladiator route just got 60k new words and it's an update that I'm quite proud of. There's basically no RNG/dice rolls, but there are a lot of stat-gated choices and variations based on states, archetypes, prior choices. There are icons now that help make some of them clearer, but a lot of scenes are still rather obscure.

I'm sure there's quite a few scenes that have only been experienced by a handful of random players (out of thousands) because of some niche stat-combo and combination of choices. The magickal/academy path is getting a huge expansion in January... but the gladiator path is kino right now and growing more in late December.

Cheers man.

For your viewing pleasure: the main balcony babe / romantic interest of Chapter 3.31 (ludus arc).
Bonus points for the Chads who recognize who she's inspired by.

played the new update. More great content for the gladiator route.

That aside, As a consumer it seems like a huge christmas gift that the dev seems to be full time and planning to release every 2 weeks starting December! It really seems like quality is consistent and my doubts on update consistency will be fading! Rare to see high quality and speed! No way the dev doesnt have previous literary experience. You have other work exalted text? NGL I'm personally loving orphan for all the detailed fights (If it wasnt obvious already) but kinda curious if you did other work prior (it would prbabbly be under a different authors name if I had to guess)

Another aside is there any other place other than here and itch.io where exalted text might be able to extend his reach and find more of the target audiences? This and https://f95zone.to/threads/looking-back-v1-1-nobody-cares.179545/ should have way more prominence IMO in the Interactive Fiction or twine game community, though they seem to like parsers and puzzles more than something like this and (Cannery Vale). Good thing im a perv who likes to read otherwise I wouldnt have found this. Maybe IFDB (interactive fiction Data base), choice of mods forum(? orphan has a way more different format but I think the people who enjoy choice of games should enjoy work like this) reddit, steam(???), Cyoa (stands for choose your own adventure), Twine or sugarcube games community (if that kind of website exists)

Much appreciated, JLP.

I'm neither going to confirm nor deny your speculation about the gladiator route, but you may've hit a couple of nails on the head. In the past, I've had updates/scenes that I rushed out just to have something completed. Chapter 3.31 doesn't have that issue. I'm very proud of it - though looking forward to fully expanding the Uncut Balcony scene.

When I first started, update consistency was very difficult for me. Within the last couple of months, it has become my utmost priority and it's really paying off. Every 2 weeks, a new chapter - a big chunk of story, polished images and usually an improvement to the UI/architecture. I'm indeed going full-time and putting all of my effort and intensity into Orphan, so expect the pace of Chapter 3.31 to continue. 2026 is going to be a massive year for Orphan & Exalted Text.

I've collaborated on a couple of big visual novels that people would likely be surprised by. But I've been writing my whole life in a number of different fields. People have always complimented the quality of my prose, but my main issue was always output/speed. That has dramatically improved recently, mainly through dedication and consistency.

Another aside is there any other place other than here and itch.io where exalted text might be able to extend his reach and find more of the target audiences? I'm finding it quite hard to market a game like Orphan. I've found itch.io and f95 to be my main levers. Choice of Games has a bit of a monopoly on CYOAs/interactive-fiction and only allows you to post on their forums/reddit if you use their game engine. I'm a bit salty about that, so I'm obsessed with the idea of making Orphan far larger, better and sexier than any of their titles as an act of revenge and holy war. One day, Exalted Text will have multiple titles and replace CoG entirely.

I've lost a few Reddit accounts to filters because they really don't like people promoting their games on there. You definitely have to be a bit coy and play the long-game. Regardless, I appreciate the support and kind words. I think word-of-mouth and recommendations to friends is one of the best vectors for Orphan to continue to grow.

Much love, and until next time~
