Was NOT expecting to see this cute ass game here lol
Almost, I think there's 3 more DLC steps but they're starting work on the prologue on step 2 now so that way when they finish up with step 1 it doesn't take as long to get step released. Is step 1 completed, and is GB patch now going to focus on step 2?
In addition to the steps we still need the second half of the step 1 thingy you know with the "and then fall ended"Almost, I think there's 3 more DLC steps but they're starting work on the prologue on step 2 now so that way when they finish up with step 1 it doesn't take as long to get step released.
A beacon of light in the abyss. Was NOT expecting to see this cute ass game here lol
At least for step one, most of the writing has been finished. The full step has been written but the sensitivity readers will still have to go through all of it to make sure there is nothing that could be taken the wrong way or anything. And I'm also sure GB Lady working on the voice lines of the characters now, so the work on step one is almost over.In addition to the steps we still need the second half of the step 1 thingy you know with the "and then fall ended"
I agree, I'm pretty sure I once saw a sprite of her crying and it said that we can make her cry. I think it was her in step one so I think that's the moment where we'll actually be able to see how our words effect her. Another thing GB lady said is that the game remembers everything you say and it most likely gets referenced. I think for her being blurred though it could be just excused as her trying to be tough for her kid, you know? Like she still loves them even if they say stupid shit. But she can still get her by them and I think in that moment, it will all just bubble up. But I'm not sure, I'm just guessing. From the October 2024 Patreon Q&A:
«Also an unrelated question, but in the last Q&A, you said in Step One DLC there will be a Moment more focused on the MC's feeling about their mom instead of Qiu and Tam. Will we have stuff like that in future Steps too, to reflect on how the relationship has changed or not?
I can say there will be a Moment that's very heavily related to your mom and Step Two, and I imagine there will be one in Step Three, but I have no idea what that would be at this point, because I don't have any ideas for the Step Three Moments. Well, I have ideas, but there are no 100% set Moments for Step Three yet».
I find this news very interesting, but to be honest, I don't have much hope for a satisfactory development.
Of all the characters in the game, the MC's mother is the most blurred, seeming at times like an automaton; no matter what answers are given to her, they don't seem to shape the relationship with her in a significant way.
here it is to the people looking for it.i have compiled various Q&A questions and tumblr asks into one huge masterdoc of olnf character information. if anyone wants to check it out, heres a link:

I'm really hoping we can do a playthrough where we grow up and just can't wait to leave as soon as possible. Like right after high school we plan on leaving the area. Maybe that's a reason she could be crying? Of all the ways I've played through the game, I appreciate the fact that we can tell our mom that we don't want to be there. I know so far in Step 2 we can still say that moving there was a mistake- I'm really hoping the developer keeps up with that theme. So many devs overlook that route and I'm so appreciative of the fact that there can be a bit of conflict in this gameI agree, I'm pretty sure I once saw a sprite of her crying and it said that we can make her cry. From the screenshot it seems to be step 1 sprites because she still has her short hair. Here's the sprite again for reference.I'm really hoping we can do a playthrough where we grow up and just can't wait to leave as soon as possible. I've gotta disagree. I've replayed Step One more than a fair share of times, and Opal really can vary a lot depending on the MC's personality. She's got like almost twenty-five alterations alone between how she interacts with the MC and the text about her, or her and MC's relationship. And that's just me bare-minimum counting. From the October 2024 Patreon Q&A:

Man I didn’t even know about these interactions. Guess it’s time for me to play through the game 4-5 more times to see them .I've gotta disagree. I've replayed Step One more than a fair share of times, and Opal really can vary a lot depending on the MC's personality. She's got like almost twenty-five alterations alone between how she interacts with the MC and the text about her, or her and MC's relationship. And that's just me bare-minimum counting.
For starters, she's stricter with and more cautious of rowdier MCs. With quiet/shy ones, she caters to them (not too much, because overall as a character she seems to desire that MC to be somewhat independent) and is pretty chill with confident but more mild-mannered MCs.
One of my favorite interactions is that during the prologue, if you have a lactose intolerant MC who is rowdy, when Yusuf promises he won't give them dairy products if they ever happen to come over there without her, she tells them, 'Thank you. As you can see, I need the help.' Something she doesn't bother saying with a less 'wild-child' MC type.
Also, in the new Halloween moment, if you play a brattier MC who also doesn't care for following the rules, she will make sure she slips you more pieces of candy than Qiu or Tamarack. With a more well-behaved MC, she knows they won't make a fuss over it and give them all equal pieces.
So, yeah, I can get not necessarily liking Opal's personality (she's not the coddling or doting type like the OL1 moms, which can be kind of off-putting for some people, as mothers are often portrayed that way in many games or on the entire opposite spectrum) as much, but you can't call her bland or say MC's choices don't shape the dynamic with her. Considering we're not even done with Step One yet, they definitely have by an impressive amount for it not to be a game that revolves around the MC and her.
