I don't really know, Do I want to? I haven't had many chances to try. For a long time mainstream games also shy away from "difficult" issues but now you have games like (it's just an example, there are many more) Hellblade:Senua's Sacrifice with a gameplay that was all about combat and puzzles, but with a background that was all about insanity, and loss, and grief. And surprinsingly that background permeated the mechanics, and even more surprisingly it (kinda) worked.
So, in this instance I guess I'm willing to try it. Mind you, I'm not saying Eva should put the focus on this (or other simillar issues) by any means, just that I'm fine with such elements and characters being slightly present in the game. Though I can understand how that can be detrimental to the "fun" other people extract from the game
The same can be said of many others works of fiction: movies, books, whatever. The characters go from having sex to a philosophical argument, a bank heist or killing a White Walker in minutes or a few pages, without the story taking us trough the motions of their more mundane activities or focusing exclusively in one thing only (well, in GRRM's case it would probably take two banquets with each course described, four fucking Brienne chapters and all in all ten years or so irl). I don't see the problem (barring GRRM's thing).In life the discussion would take time, with lots of pauses to work through the issue and (I hope) you would leave before watching porn. In the game it happens within minutes.
I'm not sure Eva is ONLY going for hotter. Better? Well, maybe, we'll see if she manages to pull it off (if that's really her intention). But you're absolutely right about GGGB being a much more over-the-top game, and in that context is easier to get away with things like murder, that in the crazy ganster route sorta "made sense". In ORS it can be much more difficult to do it without becoming "too intense" or annoying or whatever.Also do you think Eva/Bernard commiting suicide, you killing someone made GGGB a better game? A hotter game? I don't. But that's just me, of course.
P.S. Btw, I'd say that banging the girlfriend of a non-depressed friend is also NOT okay
So maybe that's what Eva is going for: "It really takes you that to pity Wade and realize Ian was doing the wrong thing? Wow, just wow". It has been said that Eva's NPC practise extreme mental gymnastics to justify their actions, but I'd add that also we the players can go to extremes to justify what we make the MCs do in certain "moral" choices, while at the same time finding less reprehensible behaviour inexcusable in some NPCs.Ah! and Disclaimer: I confess (in some of my routes) I'm gonna cuck Wade HARD. Employed or unemployed. Couldn't care less. Oh, I have done terrible terrible things in videogames: full genocide of extraterrestrial species wouldn't be the worst. This will not even be a Top-10.
