I would have preferred to be a writer (sci fi or not) than any of the other jobs you mentioned so she got it right with me at least. That said, the implementation of the writing process could be better, the right options for each genre feel kind of random.Exactly, they are all in the game. EK could have made the MC anyone she wanted, and we got a an aspiring sci fi writer...
But I think the aspiring writer with the publishing industry day job fits well with some of the game themes and other characters. It's the artistic freedom, integrity and truth vs the compromise and climbing the industry ladder because you also want the money and success (there's a hint of this when the right choice for getting a promotion seems to be recommending not to publish a sci-fi book that Ian seems to like but thinks it's too dense for the mainstream). It also goes well with introducing someone like Holly, Minerva and a "villain" like Seymour.
