I think it's more of just the plain girl effect and an oversaturation of models. Compare her to other girls they all have some underlying kink to them. Holly - good girl/corruption, Cindy diva/cucking Wade, Minerva - Milf/banging your boss, etc. Cherry the kink would be her being a model but that's also already Lena, Cindy, Ivy, and they have more on top of that. Cherry is just a boring character and poorly implemented in the story. She is a vague friend of Alison, which doesn't go anywhere and her past relationship with Lena and Axel has no present impact. Lena sulking about it has nothing to do with Cherry and regarding Axel, she doesn't seem to relapse and fall back to him, so that potential drama is out, as well.
There isn't any obstacle and hurdle for her to overcome. You theoretically have her art, but thats entirely outside of our/Ians control. The Perry romance is very arbitrary and even Eva once said they don't want to implement art for it (just how there is barely art for Perry/Emma), so it may be entirely off-screen and wouldn't improve her or Perry, anyways.
In a game of drama and relationship issues, she only has technical relationship problems, but practically they are mostly in her head and easily resolved by just fucking Ian.
She starts solid and is on the same level of anxiety as Ian, but Ian develops and improves very fast and rewarding, while she mostly stays the same.

The fact is that a significant part of people playing porn games are from the forced celibacy division and in Stan they see themselves - the same losers who are ignored by female attention. So there is nothing surprising in this, they sympathize with this guy and the game makes their dream come true - for a hot and popular girl to fall on them from the sky and accept them for who they are (they themselves don’t want to do anything, usually everyone is to blame for their problems except them - remember Stan rage being rejected by Lena)
But this route is understood to be implausible for those who understand how relationships work and someone like Lena, even in the basic starting version, would not date Stan. It's sad that Eva follows the crowd - it is slowly killing the game. The only thing that works properly in this game for now is good 2D art and lewds, nowhere else is there such a level of visuals among 2D games.

Fair. I don't indulge in ebony fetish so I wouldn't really know, I have just seen it as a top category on occasion, but that doesn't mean its actually popular. Even so, she doesn't even have a fringe kink attached to her.
