VN - Ren'Py - Our Red String [Ch.13.3.6] [Eva Kiss]

I Can't RECOMMEND this game enough. This has got to be one of my favorite adult games I've ever played.
Absolutely Amazing Dual Protagnists, Superb Characters, Interesting Narrative with how both the 'worlds' collide together and how every interaction and choice leads to a different outcome.
Love that the stat systems adds to the gameplay, and isn't grindy at all.
Love the UI , one of the best UI's in VNs.
And Absolutely cherish the Story in making, I hope to sink deeper into this world and despite it being very naughty, it is a very grounded heartfelt tale and thats something very rare and special.
I'd give this a 10 if I could, but yeah, Truly an amazing Experience.

I normally do not review a half finished game but after the latest update for a low budget 2d game without any animation, I changed my mind so here it is.

The biggest problem of this game is the attribute system. Characters have 6 notable attribute and your decisions in game affect the points of your attribute. TBH, I feel this to be a good design from the start but immediately I find myself lack of guidance of which choice would reward which attribute. The worst part of this system is that players would feel penalized and frustrated when later in the story you would be blocked out of a scene by your attribute points. I understand the motive of the point system to encourage players for different approach but the lack of information and design fails spectacularly. How am I supposed to know at such point later your would need x point for x attribute? That is just very poorly thought and terribly designed. I did use console command to unlock all the possible scenes but that completely defies the purpose of the attribute system and we are better off without it. There are many ways to enhance the replayability of this type of games, this is the worst way to do it.

For a low budget 2d game without any kind of animation, I found the sex scene is well below average and the story either unoriginal (love triangle etc) or laughable( Ian has erection problem). It's more like a teenager play compared to the taste of adults.

This game is my go-to example of a game I started playing for pr0ns, but stayed for plot.
I really enjoyed the unique dynamic of having 2 protagonists (that you can make hook up lol) and how each protag has an accompanying supporting cast that interweave with each other in the story. I really enjoyed seeing characters close to one protag show up in the story of another! Makes it a whole other level of compelling when YOU control both protags lol.
The characters themselves are just so damn likeable! They're well written and relatable! They really give Our Red Strings its life.

This game is great so far, really looking forward to its completion.

Not surprisingly, the supporting role (Cindy) is more beautiful than the heroine (Lena), haha...
I hope Cindy will have more plots in the future...So far, only nude photos have been taken.

What I don't like about this game is the dual perspective, I only like the only MC perspective.
This kind of gameplay that can control other characters does not have a good sense of substitution, and it feels like you are playing with yourself...Think about the male lead is you, and the female lead is also you. Actually, the person you want to fuck is yourself?

I also hate the heroine's perspective. I don't like the erotic game where MC is a woman...The reason should be understood by many people...be fucked.
Although I don't let Lena be fucked by men other than MC in this game, I still don't like this kind of NTR.

According to my feelings, I should give 3 stars, but I am so obsessed with Cindy, she is so charming, I give 1 more star for a total of 4 stars.

Quality stuff and deserves a rating from me. Absolutely love the graphics in the game, dashboard is slick, just like the gameplay and options. Music fit the scenes well and no annoying SFX. Just a game I actually do play. The game does not feel rushed like most games on this website. well done developers!

This is a weird one, it's a bit personal preference, if it was a 10 point scale it'd be a 7 not a 6.
I do really like the art in this game and the plot and the rest, it's got good qualities. I get the higher ratings.
My main issue is it's going for a level of complexity and effort that's higher than I think makes a game with fap'ing as a significant goal fun. I do greatly appreciate the walkthrough but at some point it still starts to feel like work to play and track.
Definitely a YMMV though. Me, I'll just hold out for a convenient cg rip.

the story of all characters must be further extended because it is interesting to make the MC and FMC a harem, the storyline is good, but it will be even more interesting if the supporting characters are added to make the fans curious of Our Red String. however, it's a good game and i loved it

A linear narrative adult dating sim VN with plenty of choices regarding relationships and character development accompanied by an excellently drawn art style.

The story follows two male and female main characters whose stories are intertwined through their lives and the relationships they form and develop in a true to a real-life setting. The writing and dialogue are very well written but have a slow pace with its slow build-up and character development as well as its realistic approach to depicting and featuring everyday life situations, romance, and simple daily city-life interaction in general.

Overall a quality adult VN, but it might not suit people who are looking for an overexaggerated quick gratification VN with plenty of pornographic content or simply uninterested in a slow real life-like dating sim visual novel.

Excellent really enjoyed it. Loved the artwork, the writing, fell in love with very character. Wished there were a little more animations, not just for the sex but during flirting/dancing. Even with all the saves, I still end up choosing to play from the start(4th playthrough now).
Really loved it(sincerely) waiting for next updates.
P.s Please don't end the game anytime soon.

Rated this as good, only because it's not yet finished. If the updates continue to come regularly at such quality it will undoubtedly deserve the excellent mark as much as any other excellent rated game on this site.

A visual novel for western audiences, with western art and heart. I especially enjoy the dynamic at play between the different characters and how their paths intersect and often intertwine in sometimes predictable but always interesting and exciting fashion.

A game to follow and a game developer who, i hope, will give us such goodness for a long time to come. Highly recommened. If you are looking for quality content, look no further than EvaKiss' works.

I think the differential of Our Red String is the system with two protagonists living at the same time, it ends up providing the same scene sometimes, but in different points of view and honestly I liked this mechanics, The graphics are good and the game adopts the description of movements or situations for the economy of an even greater versatility of images, perhaps this last factor bothers you, but it is not exactly a problem, the protagonists are interesting, as well as their choices have medium consequences, obviously still maintaining some unchanging points . The game performs well the rest of the things it proposes to do and mainly practically has no bugs.

Below are my grades for each category, where 10 is the highest grade:
Graphics: 10;
History: 10;
Plot: 9;
Character development: 10;

Verdict: It is worth playing, the good work in the execution outweighs the negative points.

The last game, has been the only Female protag game I have ever enjoyed, I had alot of choice.
This game has both, and it really works well. this game again has alot of choice, and great art. this is an actual story and not a quick fuck anything that moves (though you can;D).
There is quality in this game, even if the genre isn't your style.

Very slow start, many dumb stereotypes and full of drama that you find in real life. Its like watching a fucking 18+ soap opera. We play these games because we want something different, not the same bullshit we deal with irl.

Played the 0.4 version.

Gotta say, it feels like a slight step back from GGGB. First the improvements:
Art and presentation - huge improvement. Looks professional, in-line with actual indie studios that make VN's. I especially like the vibrancy of the colors, and the general aesthetics - very sleek. And of course the character designs are lovely, oozing personality.

The "Good // Bad // Money" stat system from GGGB has been tweaked and expanded slightly with additional stats, and an extra "spendable" resource called Will - think hero points from RPG's. The system is utilized quite frequently, and helps with immersing yourself as the two playable characters.

Now, the other half of what makes a good VN - the story I feel is weaker.
Its still miles better than most of the trash that is found on this site, but measuring ORS against GGGB is unavoidable.
In ORS the premise is: you (the player) takes the role of two characters, and either guide them into a romantic relationship, or have them hook up with the rest of the cast - or both..?
As things stand, the story feels very tilted towards the "romance" option, which also means it is a slow burn until things get spicy.

Trying to play any other ways almost feels as if the game is chastising you. This is especially true for the female character, where you have the option to hook up early with her waiter coworker. The game tries its best (and succeeds) to portray him as a chode, endearing as a sack of potatoes. Then proceeds to lay it on pretty thick, overtly and subversively, that you MADE THE WRONG CHOICE should you pursue that storyline.

Anyway, the story itself I find is not nearly as interesting as GGGB - which explored trashy D-list celebrity lifestyle, Street gangs, even terrorist groups in third world countries. Subtly critical, poignant, curiously believable?
In contrast, ORS is about the lives of artsy young adults, and uh... the economy is bad. They're also all either writers, painters, musicians or photographers working low-wage jobs.
Well, maybe if all of the city's youth didn't end up studying fine arts maybe the economy wouldn't be so bad? We'll probably never know.
Anyway, Eva Kiss is capable of better.

I have a feeling the story will pick up as development continues, so I'll definitely revisit my rating once the game nears completion.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Evas GGGB before this one but... ORS falls into a completely different category.
ORS by far has the most innovative and exciting approach to VN I have ever seen.
You are actually playing two opposite characters which, let's say, are on their way to developing very deep intellectual, emotional, and physical relations.
I have been an alpha male all my life and thanks to my wits and charm I usually always got what I wanted. Years of experience, I hope, gave me a pretty good insight into women's psychology but... playing a woman or actually dating myself, as the game puts me in the two opposing roles, is a real challenge and so far (V 0.4) I really love it.
Supporting NPCs are well developed and feel like real-life people you can love or hate or just be friends with and the main story progression so far has been very exciting and exquisitely written.
The visual art style used is far better than in GGGB and right up my alley.
In the end, once it's finished, I expect ORS to become a new standard for quality VNs.

This is one of the best made Stories ever seen on this site. Very fleshed out characters and dialogues. Its probably the first time, i did not try to create a harem and actually help my Friends. This only happens, when you actually care for the characters. So all of you, who are only here for the sex, you will be disappointet. Everybody else will have a avery good Novel at hand.

Love your style. GGGB was excellently written and so is this so far. Love to see that there’s effort put into characters and backstories. Actually makes them seem believable instead of just standard tropes. Glad to see art improve, and looking forward to more!

V0.7 update: The story has been tightened up some, in my opinion. There are still moments when the narrative feels a little exposition-dumpy, but overall I'm eagerly awaiting every update and sucked into every character's story. 5/5

(This review is very early, at v0.3) Tags: Vanilla, slow burn, dating/life sim.

I'm going to begin with the con because it does stand out. First, when I say this is a slow burn, I mean SLOW. Not only does Our Red String make an effort to establish every character's backstory and current situation before any plot point, sexual or otherwise, takes place, but the establishment itself is excessively wordy. It's not so much a matter of purple prose as it is a matter of showing more than the tip of iceberg, and explaining things that were already adequately implied. However, this will probably be tightened up in later versions.

With that out of the way, Our Red String does something really cool with its dual protagonists. Each protagonist has their own stats, which means each protagonist develops a unique personality based on those stats. I'm really excited about this because it looks like the player's choices will shape not only whether the characters' actions lead them together, but their compatibility and the type of relationship they'll have.

In addition to that, there's an awesome story in here about pursuing dreams and falling in love during a delicate time of disillusionment--both institutional and personal. There are deep, established friendships you'll actually care about. Yes, the sex looks pretty vanilla so far, and its kinks and sexual situations feel very similar to Good Girl Gone Bad, but Our Red String has a hell of a story in the works for anyone seeking some legit erotica.

Evakiss is doing it again! The art in this game is really well done and the writing is what separates it from every other game. Cringiness is rare and the connections feel realistic. Probably the best part is the endless options and trees available for the player to choose from. It's definitely not easy to write those much less to write them so well. Looking forward for more content

**Here's the 0.7 ALPHA Update to my review.**
If you wish to read my earlier writeups, do so, but I need to make something clear: 5/5 doesn't cut it. I rated this game a perfect note early on, but I can't revise it higher... Chapter 7 is too much of a gamechanger. To keep this review spoiler free: I'll just say the payoff for the narrative buildups is very significant.

After a few years trying different H-games / VNs / Sex mods, you get jaded by the overused tropes: 1) H-JRPGs (Kagura, etc.) that are essentially variations on the same concepts (the heroine will invariably work in a tavern at some point, seems like); 2) RenPy "harem" VNs full of MILFs / "How I Met My Mother?"; 3) "Trainers" that are reaching for ideas on how to sluttify the female secondary "protag" after they exhausted their initial pitch...

I don't want to insult other genres too much (to each their kinks), but H-games afficionados become extremely cautious about trying new titles. I played GGGB when it was still in mid development, and I thought it was one of the best. I tried replaying it recently, and it pales in comparison to Our Red String. I expect some of the better elements of GGGB to eventually come to ORS (tattoos, piercings, more clothing options, perhaps haircuts/), but on it's own, ORS is a much more solid foundation, and a much more original take on the genre. To this day, it is the only H-game I recommend to my friends shamelessly, regardless of gender. I talked about it to both my ex and to my best friend who teaches in university, both women.

The downside with great games, is that they make it hard to go back to other titles. There a quite a few other good VNs out there, but none of them do it for me like ORS does. It is a mature game for people who enjoy their porn with interesting drama. EvaKiss deserves my utmost respect.

While this review is done based on v0.3 ALPHA, this game is bound to become one of my Top 10 favorite H-games (based on 300+ games tried). I was already enamored with GGGB, the art is much better in this one, and while I am not a huge fan of male protagonist games in general (I play mostly female protag.), this one is really stimulating. Playing both sides of a linked story is something I haven't seen that much before.

I'll update the review based on future releases.

v0.5 ALPHA Update: I'll definitely have to try and add more to my review of this game. I find myself coming back to look for updates of this title more frequently than I usually look for. I've played so many games, yet this is the only one in which I have legitimately had such strong emotional reactions to the characters. It's partly a matter of taste, because while I like un-relatable bimboification stories where people get slutified by cosmic rays or space parasites, it's fun to read a story that *could happen* to people around you.
