Please explain incest patch

I beg you, don't refer me to other threads about incest patch, I've been through them and got even more confused. Just answer these questions as if talking to a complete complete noob.

1. What I found out is that, games where devs intended incest, can't straight out do that due to patreon restriction. Hence the patch. Do the devs make the patch? Or other people make them?

2. Is there a time frame? like was there ever a time where adult games could straight out have incest content without thinking about restrictions and patreon didn't do crackdown? This culture of providing the game without incest and later changing it through patch must be pretty old by now. If, over there at patreon, they are willing to literally break your game down and look at the core codes to see if you have incest content or not, what's stopping them to ban games that have landlady, landlord in them, but the game is clearly going for incest. Don't they know it is obviously incest and there going to be unofficial incest patch. Or they don't care whatever changes you make after downloading. Am I missing something here? Please explain.

I heard something about downloading a file which will unlock true story or something, can someone explain plz? Then there are patches that just renames the relations?? (landlady -> mother etc). I've seen many dislike this method. Because devs now have to make changes throughout the entire game to ensure the story works for both mother and landlady, which kinda ruins things. If devs intended true incest in the game, it now ruins the story. Like what do you mean it is forbidden to have sex if you are my landlady? Isn't that quite common in western culture?

4. Also, I've seen many people raging about others who make incest patches for games where incest wasn't even intended just to satisfy their kink. This also ruins the story and messes up the narrative.

5. How do these things work in other distributors such as itch and steam? I don't see them providing incest patch?

6. How do I know if a game is designed with incest in mind or not? if the devs intended on incest or not? If not, then I will not download a patch to ruin the story.

7. What if there are both mother and landlady in a game? If the devs intended on incest as well as relationship with mc's landlady, how will that work? Would mother be landlady initially? If it asks me to set the relationship in the begining and I keep mother as landlady (default), what about the actual landlady? How would you even write a story in this scenario keeping both at mind? --- You live in the second floor. While you are inside home, "Oh don't you know it is forbidden to have sex with your landlady?" But then you go to the bottom floor, there's another landlady, the one who actually takes rent from you. And it is not forbidden to have sex with your landlady all of a sudden? "Oh she's just an attractive milf"

Both, sometimes random users make those patches, but most of the time it's the devs. However it's not the devs spreading them officialy, because for Patreon this would make the game an incest game. So they do it under the table or let members of their patreon do it.

Can't say for sure if incest was ever allowed on Patreon. But in the past, new content was not checked too closely, so incest and other forbidden stuff slipped through. Even nowadays you can still find some older incest games on Patreon, because they rely on reports and nobody ever reported the games.
Patreon can't put the blame for an unofficial mod onto the devs. Otherwise everybody could kill any dev on Patreon by simply making an incest or loli patch.

It depents on the game system. Ren'py is pretty easy to 'patch' while RPGmaker is more complicated and sometimes impossible.
Yes, usually most games just replace the lable (landlady -> mother) and the vast majority doesn't bother with changing the other content. That's why even with the incest patch most games just feel like banging your neighbor or classmate, instead of mother or sister.
Your assumtion is that the devs write an incest game and then switch the lables to non-incest ones, but its the other way around. They write normal sex stories and slap the fake-incest lables per inofficial patch on them, without the games feeling like taboo or incest at all.

Fully pointless and no need to listen to them. If you don't want the incest patch, don't use it. Simple as that. Especially if fully fan made.

Word of mouth and distribution by the players. Also there are some sites for that, like LewdPatcher.

Even for the typical japanese VNs that got stripped of all the 18+ stuff for the Steam version have people spreading the news about the 18+patch in the Steam discussions.

You won't know it without reading what players wrote.
But as I mentioned above, the vast majority of games won't make any difference anyway if you have the patch on or not, the behaviour is still the same non-familar one the dev wrote.

Never heard of such a case and this would only happen if a pure fan patch was in play, because why would a dev do this?
But for this scenario the best way would be to have the mother as the mother and the landlady becomes the aunt, so you still have "incest" with both.

There are some cases of dev's making a patch or a switch for enable content (not just incest) but mostly it's fan made patches.

Patreon, like this site, replies partly/mostly on reports to find content that breaks it's rules. Some games made it a short while and others made it longer without being caught.

You're misunderstanding the process. They find a game and / or get a report then review the game. If it's found to have banned content, the dev is contacted and the game removed until it's fixed or banned. They do also look at activity outside of patreon when a game is under review.

No it doesn't. No one is forcing anyone to download, install and play a patch. Anyone wanting to play the original story simply has to NOT download and install the patch.

Patches / mods to enable +18 content were released and sometimes added through comments, the workshop or on other sites.

On this site it's pretty obvious if a game is incest or not BUT if you are still not sure, use search. Search is your friend and should be the first thing you do when you are looking for something or an answer, if you still are unsure then ask in the game thread. Remember to ask nicely and be civil.

I have yet to come across a game that has 2 landladies and you can ONLY set one of them to "your mother" so no idea where you are getting that from.

Also in games that let you set relationships, they generally include all the characters that would fall under "forbidden" so if there WAS? a game with 2 landladies you would be able to set relationships for both and obviously one would be the mom and the other your aunt.
