i use visualboy/mgba how do i use those saves if they are in .sav? do i just rename it?
I used mGBA as well just make sure the .sav has the same name as the .gba
(also just noticed I uploaded the wrong file oops)

Does it have it some day and night cycle or something? Because the game itself since be fine until I go outside everything is like dark. Unless I need to do something to the settings or try unzipping again.
The game does in fact have a day night cycle. You should have been asked to set the time while you were doing the New Game set up, and there's a clock in your room you can change if you want to adjust it

you can, in fact do that but if you have any mon that isn't in the current gen of emerald in your pc or party some programs will end up actually deleting them since they do not compute or something like that, though I've been using PKHex to modify my saves so I can get pokemon one usually can't get on a normal run like all the other starters, thought they need to come in egg form which can be set during the process so that upon hatching, they will register on your pokedex if that matters to you
edit: reason why I recommend PKHex is cus it left my lucario and sprigatito alone after modifying the file instead of deleting them like the other programs on the web

Yeah, I saw something about Pokehex, So I tried adding Lapras thinking it already had a sprite but no avail lmao

Me personally, I like using mGBA because You can just Fast Forward battles and such and it makes grinding sooooo much easier
Ok didn't think I would be giving old game advise for a porn game yet hear I am. Pay attention to any battle you are in because you can fall victim to an oversight from the base game from pokemon emerald. Switcheroo and thief will cause you to lose items PERMANENTLY! I just lost my sooth bell a VARY useful item for pokemon that evolve with friendship since this doubles the rate. You get this rather early at dewford town and that's the ONLY one you will be getting till after you beat the game.
Honestly I'm more then annoyed with myself at the moment because I told myself to check my pokemon after a trainer used the move on me but because it was a double battle my old habit kicked in at saving after it that lost the item. Hell I didn't even check until I did the next battle and went hay I should see if I still have that...I did not and it was to late.

While it doesn't help with other, More important items, It should be noted- There is a debug NPC that sells Soothe Bells for 100p each.

So basically
Before you go into the new game, make a copy of the save, Then after that, Put the new save in the new folder after you patched the new update
BUT, Make sure the .sav file is the name name as the Game, or else it won't run, And don't delete the .sav part either
