RPGM - Pokémon 'H' Version [v0.625 B] [Sintax Error]

This is a long review because this game is surprisingly complex.

It's basically just a homebrew/knockoff/fan-made Pokemon game, with the idea that Trainers and Pokemon are actually meant to breed with each other. But, it's got a ton of dialogue, a full fledged villain team, callbacks to other games, well-made and interesting areas and towns. It adjusts a lot of the more boring aspects of Pokemon games, too to streamline. Gives you Key Items that replace HMs so you don't have to fuck up your Mons move lists. Increases EXP significantly while shortening areas so you aren't trudging through huge areas fighting a million wild Mons. Gyms have only the Leader and don't make you fight through a bunch of random trainers.

With all that being said, it actually comes across as a pretty fun fan-made Pokemon game. However.

It comes with numerous flaws. One of the worst, being that it doesn't actually do that good of a job at being a Porn/Hentai game.
Gameplay wise, you're told that this game is "Harder than what you're used to!". What this actually translates to, is that from the very first battle you fight every single trainer is going to have a stacked team full of starters and the best Pokemon you could find, with perfect stats and finely tuned move sets. On top of that, you will be out-leveled for almost every single Trainer/Gym battle you run into. Furthermore, Gym leaders and sometimes random Trainers have huge stockpiles of items. Like using 5+ Full Heals per Fight, Hyper Potions every ten seconds, Revives, etc.
There's even one optional quiz section where the person asks incredibly specific questions about Pokemon moves and effects that only the sweatiest tryhard tourney players would know off the top of their head.

This can be offset, by the fact there is a "trainer" at many places who has Mons you can beat up for free that grant boosted EXP; but this person warns you that "Using me might make the game too easy." Like bruh, lmao. Nobody is here to play an extremely hard Pokemon knock off. People are here to play a fun Pokemon game and whack it.

And finally, the thing that really brings this game down, is that there is WAY too much gameplay compared to how much Porn there is. You could spend 30m, to an hour, to two hours, never seeing a single Porn image. This is because there are only certain Mons you can fuck, specifically your specially tailored Waifu-Mon team (Lopunny, Vaporeon + Some homebrew mons). And you can only fuck them in certain situations, sometimes with very specific criteria.

There are actual failstates and missable things for the Porn, which IMO is just bad design. On top of that, a LOT of the porn is very average at best. 1-3 static images of lame scenes like handjobs and blowjobs. It also regresses often; I already had the option of fucking Lopunny and doing Anal with her, but then later on all I get is a cunnilingus scene?
    ---

tl;dr; the game is way too focused on making a pointlessly difficult Pokemon experience and not so focused on actually making an enjoyable porn game

Arts good. Gameplay is slightly tougher than your usual pokemon, but nothing a bit of strategy can't fix. Or you can just abuse the audino breeder. Really like the way the story is progressing and each of the characters+waifumons have interesting personalities. Overall, 9.5/10 really looking forward to future updates.

(Wyverfang can kiss my ass tho)

So I played the game and I will say it's not bad but also not great. For me, it wasn't about 'Git Gud' and was more Grindy as hell.

For example, you leave the first town and the first trainer not so bad. But then it just spikes up and the trainers are higher level than you and have evolved forms of pokemon. So you need to spend quite a bit of time grinding levels and then when you bean the next few trainers there is another sudden spike and once again you are forced to go back to training and you can abuse that first trainer that gives tons of exp for fighting 3 of the same pokemon. Then once again you get past the next few trainers and once again another spike before you reach the first town outside of the starting town.

There is a fun grind to games and a bad grind. This just seems way too excessive and has nothing to do with 'Git Gud'. I get there should be some spikes in the game but this many this fast is just not fun for me personally. Some may like it but just seems the game is trying to make itself hard for purpose of making itself hard and not for fun.

Had low expectations for this game but really enjoying the story so far (3rd gym). The scene between the two neighbours fighting had better story telling than anything Gamefreak has produced since black and white 2.

Edit: while the story is great the amount of times you get locked out of quests are insane for a blind playthrough.

Kind of wish the dev had listened to criticism of the actual games that the trainer battles are really boring and already encroached on the games, doubling the amount was not really a great way to endear long term game play.

which sucks because the actual fights are better on average but the amount you have to do completely blow that good will out of the water.

I'm personally a pretty big fan of hard pokemon games and the other stuff as well lol. I Will be watching this game with great interest. You said you wouldn't abandon it, and I dearly hope that holds true. Good luck to you

See you when this game and its guide are completed totally, I give up to waste my time with the worst feeling at present.
All of the time spent on the unfinished current version at present is almost meaningless, and I'm not a tester with nothing for payoff but the hopeless save files.

As a pokemon game it's not bad I haven't experienced the bugs that others have so far reaching the second gym. It does need some quality of life features just for convenience like quest indicators that can be turned off/on.

As an actual hentai game it's basically 1 star for me so far. The porn that's there is...not great and it's so sparse that it feels like an after thought like he started out just wanting to make a pokemon parody game but decided making it spicy would be the way to get financial backing for it.

I'm intrigued by the story so I'll probably keep an eye on it from a non-fap perspective.

The game had the potential to be something really good, but it appears the dev has some personal hurdles to overcome regarding critique. The flow of battles is clunky between moves, the controls feel blocky and it doesn't feel good to play. A fine line between exists 'challenging' and 'poor design' that needs to be reflected on. To be fair to the developer, there have been things put in place to allow players not looking for challenges to continue forward in the story and play the game, but overall it is just another dull cookie-cutter Pokemon clone.

The Dev team could also use a lesson on how to keep a player base by not immediately insulting them as one of the first things they see when reading the overview of their game.

Tried to like it, really wanted to like it - but the game just isn't that good.

Game constantly crashes, constant error messages, art is pretty poor, seems like its been made as one of those 'hard for the sake of being hard' games but it just makes the excessive grind feel necessary to progress with the story - kinda like a mobile game that is desperate for you to buy the microtransactions.

Plus if you come to the forum here to ask for help you find the developer is a bit of a self righteous uppity douche that looks for reasons to try and look down on you and tell you to get better (just my opinion)

    Eleyon

What can I say. Everyone drinking pure copium in saying "this game is challenging' is being silly. There are cheap things thrown in to 'challenge' you sure, but it's not really that difficult. There is a difference between 'challenging' and just outright 'garbage'. At the end of the day, as people said. This is a porn game. Regardless, 99.9% of people didn't come to fucking F95 to find and play a 'challenging' grit and grind pokemon game that doesn't even offer you much of anything for said grind. Hence, this game.

I'm not remotely a fan of a Dev being a douchebag and throwing shots at their community with crap like 'Git gud' and ingame dialogue from NPCs like 'Yes, I need a crutch' EVERYTIME you train with them or 'claiming this isn't for you if you don't like a challenge'. Your vision is your vision and stand by that unless something makes it better, but when you develop a game just to try and grandstand and talk shit to those playing it, you end up being the one with thin skin. There is GOING to be criticism of your work, that should be known before you go into a realm of something like game development. So suck that shit up and just make the damn game and quit sneak dissing at fair criticism made toward the game.
The hilarity being is that the 'challenge' is just bloat as even the Dev has admitted this is mainly so 'hard' so that you're stuck grinding giving them time to crank out updates.

This game isn't helped by the fact that I'm fresh off of playing "My Mysterious Rule!' which is equally a Pokemon based game but the scenes are much better while equally doing things to make the game and Pokemon style their own. As an added bonus, they don't shit talk you for using 'Cheat Tackle'.

    Cheers!

shit pokemon game and shit porn game. the porn is mediocre art and the gameplay is nothing but an unbalanced slog. the opening rival battle already requires rng for you to win.

i used the exp grinder to get over leveled and the game was still an obnoxiously slow and tedious slog. if you dont use the exp battle you will be grinding a team of 6 pokemon to around level 20(slowly because even the wild pokemon at the very beginning of the game are overtuned) before you can leave the first route. there is literally a trainer on the first route with a fully trained competitive team.

got misled by poor reviews, im enjoying the harder difficulty so far. someone complained about skarmory when you can catch a houndoom for fire type. im not super far into the game yet but it is a pretty solid pokemon game and one of the few ones with male protagonist that i enjoy

    Difficult, but fun.

Play this only if you're already good at Pokemon lol, and play it for the gameplay not just the hentai. This shit isn't easy.

I do wish the H-scenes were longer though, and I don't really care for the scenes with the rival (this is a Pokemon H game after all)

So wassup, this is my second comment ever in f95.

So, being completely honest, I like (love) pokemon hard or challenging fangames or roms, I feel like the easiest or even normal pokemon games get boring. You did a very good choice when balancing the difficulty of your game, basing in your time to make it and some users like us. You should better ignore the comments of people complaining about the hard difficulty of the game... Good luck!

seems with every update theirs more and more glitches and bugs in the game will personally be holding off playing it anymore till the full game has been fixed entirely as its always a headache to deal with as is to say the least

    stubbly_pubes

good lord. this somehow manages to be both a bad pokemon game and a bad porn game.

you'd think it'd be very difficult to make a truly bad pokemon game, given how simplistic the franchise is, but H Version wants to make it "hard." and by "hard," i mean the kind of unfair hard that casuals associate with Souls games.

the first battle is a perfect example of this: your starter pokemon can't out-damage your opponent's in the very first fight of the game because theirs has access to a priority move that always goes first. so, you're forced to either use healing items in battle (booooo, fight fair) or spam Double Team, which makes it less likely your foe lands a hit until you're confident that you can take out the opponent's 'mon without getting pressure washed to death.

note that, if you've never played competitive pokemon before, most events and services specifically disallow the use of Double Team because it makes for extremely boring matches and turns the game into a luckfest. if a game is actively encouraging me to cheese in order to survive, that is not "hard". that is unfair.

speaking of unfair, the starter pokemon is absolutely ridiculous once it's fully evolved. it has decent speed and great offensive stats; amazing defensive typing, weak to only ground and fire attacks; it has an incredibly powerful ability that buffs it whenever it KOs a 'mon; and its signature move gives a free defensive boost whenever it hits. if Nintendo released this thing, it'd be running all over the competitive circuit with very little in its way except a very fast Earthquake 'mon. i can't tell what the devs are going for when they hand me a 'mon this busted and then have a leveling curve that's as out of wack as theirs is.

now, i did bring up competitive play earlier. the reason for that is because H Version is absolutely inspired by it. at the very end of the first route, you fight a trainer with 5 'mons -- unheard of for this early in the game -- and they lead on a Spikes/Swords Dance/Baton Pass Skarmory. that Skarmory will lay Spikes to damage all of your pokemon as they enter the battlefield, spam Swords Dance to buff its attack stat into the ceiling, and pass that bonus on to another pokemon, who will proceed to sweep your team of Oddishes and Pinecos.

on top of that, you have no supereffective moves at that point in the game to deal with Skarmory's tankiness, so if you didn't grind your team to the level cap, you're just stuck until you do. in what universe do you expect the people who play your game to jerk off to want to grind that hard just to progress? this isn't even a gym battle or other boss fight, it's just some random kid on a bridge. what were they thinking?? just do away with the level cap, scale trainer levels to the player's party average, and steal the trainer AI rework from Complete FireRed Upgrade. it's that simple.

speaking of jerking off, hoo boy, is H Version stingy with it. the game is 95% a poorly executed romhack and 5% porn. plus, the porn that's there is just... okay. it's not animated, it's loosey-goosey with anatomy, and it's short. it's amateur hour. you shouldn't expect anything more, especially after your hoe rival OwOs in conversation.

it's disappointing, low expectations aside, because pokemon and hentai is a match made in heaven. the games themselves center around a theme of growing alongside a team of companions and learning more about their abilities and powers as they grow more affectionate towards you. imagine that but with a team that's also your harem.

to the devs -- come on, man. i don't want to watch half-assed VN cutscenes of my 'mons looking sad about things, i want to walk with them. feed them poffins off of my chest. play pokemon-amie but in a BDSM way. so many free ideas; none of them utilized.

i ultimately gave up on H Version after encountering an extremely annoying (but not technically gamebreaking) bug that screws up overworld ground textures after entering a building or a battle, which made it very difficult to progress without relaunching the game after every encounter. i probably would have given up on it soon enough even if the game wasn't kinda buggy.

anywho, if you want to manhandle your ham candle to this, all of the scenes are in the Pictures folder of the main game directory. if you want a genuinely challenging romhack with some love and care put into it, go play Unbound or Blaze Black/Volt White. don't play this.

Pokèmon Hentai Version is an undoubtedly unique experience, an erotic game about pocket monsters with a playful, hardcore purpose behind it as well.
On the gameplay side, nothing to report, it is the classic rpg experience with turn-based combat of mainline pokèmon games: the introduction of new unique creatures (the waifu-mon, but also other original creatures in the hands of some enemies) with unique signature moves is definitely appreciable, especially since they are strong, but not "broken." The real flaw on this side is the scaling (I would say obscene) of the trainers: these are very numerous, right from the first path, and equipped with fully evolved monsters. It is understandable that the motive behind this choice is to increase the difficulty of the experience, to make it suitable for more veteran players, but the feeling conveyed is that of an artificial difficulty that forces farming from the start to make your life easier (the Audino trainers found in some towns to allow you to level quickly soon become useless, especially at more advanced levels, while the pokèmon in the tall grass are often too weak to gather much exp). I mean, the last kid on route 1 has a fucking Hariyama, just for fun. The artificial intelligence behind the trainers is not too complex, but it is still appreciable, with strategies especially relevant behind the gym leaders, while in the double battles the pokèmon pairs are designed to cover each other, making them even more complex. To close this section, we can say that the gameplay component is difficult, although sometimes for the wrong reasons (perhaps the beginning could be more gradual and accompanied in its scale of difficulty), but you get used quickly, developing strategies and team formations (to this end, you will often reload the game to experience different solutions) and above all never stopping thinking.
The next point is obviously the erotic component: this is divided into two "strands", namely the furry with waifumon and classic vanilla with female gym leaders and with Asha, our rival and companion of adventure. An unexpected element that I really appreciated are the stories and mini quests behind the waifumons, all different in personality and even with a reason for their strange evolution. The scenes are all hand drawn in a few CGs not animated, nothing special but still cute.
The story, finally, is interesting, with an evil team well thought and a plot that well justifies both the greater difficulty of the region, and the erotic experiences you'll live.
In conclusion, Pokèmon H Version is an ambitious project, which wants to combine the hardcore mods with the erotic mods of Pokèmon, with a result of alternate quality, but certainly appreciable.
Edit: I nearly forgot to add the real mystery of this game, that is: why the hell the first encounterable legendary is Volcanion? Dear developer, do you really hate us so much to give us this horror?

Best pokemon mod game I have played. Brutally hard, the game was clearly made by someone who loves the series and the competitive scene, but Sintax isn't so stuck up he gives no resources for more casual players. Relationships are nice, with well written characters (Ashe is sweet enough to give you cavities, I swear), this could well be leading into a game that plays on par with the best pokemon mod games out there.

pretty solid in terms of pokemon lewd games

its doesnt feel very grindy especially considering the speed up option and the leveling trainers in each town. dont listen to the people saying the game is too hard. the starter is beyond broken. like better than most legendaries broken.

you can get its final evo pretty early giving it access to the ability beast boost. draining kiss for recovery, calm mind and grande jete to boost stats and dazzling gleam for big damage and to sweep all of the double battles (dgleam hits both opposing pokemon). you can also get the item leftovers in ur starter house on the desk

the part where this game loses the most points is the lewd content. its just incredibly mid. the scenes are boring and vanilla af. if you want a solid pokemon game with some lewd content slapped in then play. if u want something to get yourself off then skip this
