To be fair part of that is definitely also because my latest ideas were for the lezdoom game, and looking back on my OP I made it sound more interesting than the other one here. That said, it's true that the setting would probably stand out more among porn games.
While femdom games are certainly more popular, I think lezdom games have a more dedicated community since there are very few pure lezdom scenarios. Femdom games have to be really unique to compete in the market; considering you are using AI the best course of action is to make a lezdom game. Also I feel like the concept for the lezdom game is more intriguing than the femdom one.
I think it could compete decently based on the writing and the fact that I am going for a very distinct kind of relationship from most femdom games on this website, even though it inevitably will draw influence from games I played and enjoyed. The femdom game does sound more stock setting-wise, especially from a brief description like this one, but I think its main draw lies in the psychological domination aspect and MC's relationship dynamic with his mistress (I think I made a longer post about it just a couple months ago before I knew AI art existed -
here it is ), yet you are right that some people will definitely just skip it if they see an "AI art" tag.
I anyways do not intend to close this poll anytime soon (a bigger sample size is always better) and even though my original suspicion seems to be confirmed by the current results, if you include the "Both but I prefer femdom" people in the count, almost 2 thirds of the current respondents also play lezdom games, so you might be right!
This is a bit of a trap you can fall into with market demographics. While femdom is more popular than lezdom, there are also significantly more femdom games you'd have to compete with. Content designed to appeal to the most people may not be as successful as content designed to appeal to a smaller audience that is starved for content.
You raise a good point - the content would not be designed to appeal to the most people though I assure you. I have a vision for both of these games, so neither of them would be the fan-servicy type of game that bends to whatever supporters want to see. I just have limited time and ability (I'm not an artist, hence the need for AI art, and not a programmer or IT specialist either) and currently more ideas for the lezdom game, so I started this poll to see whether spending a really long time working on an ambitious AI art lezdom game is a viable option to start out as a dev.
Money is not and will never be my primary motivation, (I'm actually even an anti-capitalist and pro-piracy when it comes to triple A games, so out of principle if I manage to release either of these projects I will always have them available for free, even if slightly later than for supporters, and I will probably also include something like a 2 dollar tier for people from developing countries to also be able to get earlier access) but it is a massive effort to make even a first update of a big game like the ones I envisioned, and it would certainly feel deflating to put in all of that effort and garner no interest... I honestly didn't expect this many people to vote and comment in less than a day from posting the poll, so that's certainly a good sign.
I also have a day job and other irl commitments, so releasing act 1 of either project may take me many months even if I work on it dilligently, but I'm grateful for all the advice and engagement and honestly it's already dispelling some of my original worries that I'd be wasting my time!
I started my sexual journey only watching lezdom, because I felt disgusted of myself.
Now with self-loathing behind me (most of it) I find it that femdom is my favourite thing as I have mostly accepted who I am.
Nevertheless, I think creators like you should work on what they are passionate about, that will make the game so much better and make it easier for you to keep going!
Plus if it is a game made by you I will play it no matter if it is lezdom or femdom or both

Well I'm more into lezdom thing myself, especialy since I only like girl and love dominating as much as submiting to it offers me more variety. But femdom only wouldn't prevent me from trying the game for sure.

I've got loads of work to do anyways, so while I'm waiting for the results on this and still trying to make a decision, I'll probably focus on doing things that would be useful for both projects, like learning more advanced ren'py coding or experimenting with some more SD checkpoints, LORAs and VAEs.

Tho even if I'm not into lezdom, as you know I do prefer the proposed mix of wuxia, gongwei, zhiguai and xianxia much more as the general style and setting for the game (it doesn't have to be porn then) than of the other one. Can't you mix the two into one game?
(Well, technically femdom could include lezdom, but of course I knew you meant straight femdom in the poll.)
I voted "both but I prefer femdom". As long your lezdom is good, I think there should be market for it, and I think doing a simpler game (as long you have a concept that motivates you) may be a good call, since you'll learn so much from it. Though to be honest, from your description, the lezdom game doesn't sound simple, if anything it sounds more complex than the elf one. (I'm sort of reminded of Mistress vs Slave, and how that game was more slow-paced and intellectual than sexy to me. Hopefully you could strike a good balance.)
