Say the visual novel is amazingly written, and the Gameplay-based game has great gameplay even for a normal game. Which would you prefer?

For gameplay, do you mean a sandbox where you can move around at your own pace and make choices as to who you interact with and when? If so, that's absolutely my preference.
If you mean a game where you move around a character in 3D, then oh hell no. I just can't do those as a porn game.

I'll never understand the appeal of visual novels over actual games personally. If I wanted to read a shoddy porn story with pictures to go along with it, I'd read an adult comic. If I cared more about the writing, I'd read erotica. I enjoy both. Aside from vague choices or a grindy relationship system, VNs don't really offer anything more than comics or erotica. Especially when VNs are bloated full of amateurishly written exposition between the sexual content.
When I go looking for porn games it's because I want to be challenged by a game and be rewarded in porn. It's also why I hate games that reward you for losing.

Are there many good stories with sexual content though? Like the Witcher level or so? When I hear "erotic stories" I assume some cheap crap revolving around porn, while VNs worth readind contain very little to no porn and don't rely on it to be good. I'm not talking about that 3D garbage of course, but proper VNs like FSN or WaB series and so on.
I still prefer good gameplay though when I need to fap, if done right it's great at building tension.

I personally like Visual Novels, I just enjoy reading. I've read a lot of stories that have been very good and the adult content was just extra but the story would have been great even without the adult content. I've also been on the other end of the spectrum where the story was crap and the adult content didn't do anything do improve the story.
I can't see myself playing a "Game" like something that was built in Unity / Unreal Engine running around and get the same feeling as you get with stories.

No, it's worse than those, because in your examples there's some kind of real incompatibility. A PC guy will not buy a Mac, unless he explicitly need it. If he need a new computer, it will still be a PC.
What he's asking is more fish/meat, and my answer would be both. If they are effectively as he describe them, I don't see why I wouldn't enjoy them both at the same level.

For erotic content I tend to prefer gameplay based games because the kinds of stories I find compelling and my fetishes are rarely found together. And often you need to sit through more stuff in a VN to get to the stuff I want to see.
I've read some visual novels like Heart of the Woods but I wasn't looking for an erotic experience when I read them, I was looking for a good story.

I see VNs the the evolutionary step prior to games.
Erotic stores evolved to erotic comics, which evolved to hallway VN , which evolved to choice based branching VN, which evolved to sandbox games.
That doesn't mean that the older styles are poor or don't still have value, because I like examples of all of them. But I'm much more into something where I have control.

Are you the kind of person who looks on a porn games site something about destroying Martians, war with cyborgs, spiders in dungeons ? Dude, go to a real bar, try to meet a girl, you'll get everything you look for in games - first you get beaten up by bikers and boyfriends of those girls, then you get taken to the police, then you get beaten up there, then you pay the fine.
You'll find more action than in your games, and more sex. Because one look at a real babe is sexier than a single shitty scene of an octopus rape in the satanic dungeon of a Mars spider wizard.
I tottally prefer games, but if VN is realy good i will be content with that. But if choice is average grade game vs average grade VN i choose game every time. overally games are just better and also more potential to be good.
I think porn games suck if there is no exploration. The fun is finding events.
