(Poll) Would you avoid checking out a game solely because it's running on the RPGM engine?

Nope. I end up liking a lot of RPGM games I try. I decide if I check them out based on content and artwork, just as with any other kind of game.

Overall I believe many would avoid the game because of the reputation that many RPGM games get related to work, presentation and use.
If people avoid games like black garden just because it's made in rpgm then I would have to say it's a stupid reason. There are good RPGM games and bad ones, however the bad ones are in a much bigger number.
Personally I won't avoid a game because it's RPGM, however I will take attention to detail.

First thing that comes to mind when i hear rpgm are female mc's about to be rape cause it's what the games all about w/c is a big NO for me, but i always make sure to check it out first before judging (checking the tags i mean).

I tend to avoid rpgm games at least those that resemble 90's era jrpgs (most of them) Some of the more pure vn style games are good but then I don't understand why rpgm was used in the first place.

There are a few good erotic games made with RPGM. But really only a few. Most of them are extremely grinding. But the biggest minus is that you have to use your keyboard. The older RPG-Maker didn't had a mouse support (there were a few fan made add-ons to fix that, but not many games used that). So if you play a RPG-Maker game that was made with an older Maker, than you have to use your Keyboard with boath hands. Using two hands in an erotic games is a no go. from RPG-Maker MV on mouse support was implementet and you can use it solely with a mouse. But it isn't fun controlling it that way. Especially the menus are programmed baad. You have to klick most options two times, must always go to a special place to go back (in Ren'Py it's just a left mouse-click).
In my younger days I liked to play RPG-Maker Games and even made some myself. Even today I play them from time to time. Some of them are really well made in story, style or gameplay. But they are best played wiith a keyboard with both hands.
Another point I would insert: The extreme difference in art-syles for when you run around on the maps and for the erotic scenes rarely match together. Not an big issue, but an issue nonetheless.
So yes, if I see an RPGM tag, then it must have a big reputation, must match almost perfectly my preferences or must have a very high rating before I even think about looking at it.

Now, I assume you're asking this question in relation to your game Tyrant Quest. Your game doesn't actually have that stuff (haven't played in a couple versions though), so I can enjoy it since its basically a VN.
But, that leads to some problems. Its a VN game, but in the RPGM engine. People who like VN's might not try it because they dislike RPGM games, people who like RPGM games might not like it because its not the typical RPGM game.

Treasure of Nadia made me stop avoiding RPGM, I guess. It's all about presentation.
jamdan I see but I just wanted to gather what people think on the subject overall. Personally, I'm preparing a new game (won't be out in a while) and was wondering if I should switch to Ren'py or not to expand our player base on that one.
The game would be easier made for me on RPGM as I have more experience on it, but it can be a serious handicap for being played by a large audience.

I'm in agreement with a lot of what has been said. The key is as has been noted many times before presentation. Seeing a game with the most generic assets, no redeemable features, or interesting mechanics makes it a hard sell for me. Even if the artwork itself is good.
You can make interesting worlds in RPGMAKER if you put in some effort. dosenspezi mentions Treasure of Nadia (their previous games were also in RPGMAKER and I found them great in their own right). I also like Peasant's Quest and games like Apostle, Erolon: Dungeon Bound, and Princess & Conquest.

I can't deal with the 80s graphics in 2020 so I skip the second I see the tag. I do like that they're generally more 'games' though. but man, 1980 was 40 years ago and I was there to play the same games.
Roundscape Adorevia is the best RPGM game ever made in my opinion because it's a RPG first, porn second.

RPGM is good but not popular with "I want it now" crybaby millenials. On the start screen, ask the player's age. If it falls in that group... enable teleporters everywhere so they don't get cramps in their imaginary legs, or they will scream bloody murder.
I like RPGM games overall, though I think we are reaching a point where only a handful of devs are doing anything interesting with them. They also tend to run afoul of the gameplay vs H issue, which is a continual problem in H games in general.
Personally, I want to see more games with animation come to RPGM, along with games with more unique gameplay ideas, like Imperial Gatekeeper. (I know IG is WolfRPG, but I don’t see any reason it couldn’t be RPG maker. Imagine it with fully developed animations...)

I voted "Yes, I would avoid playing RPGM games" because I feel like there is a massive clash between the Western h-art (daz, hand drawn) and the, in my opinion, silly sprite art that comes prepackaged with the engine. The two don't mix well at all and it's hard for me to get immersed in the world of the game when half of the game is cartoonish and the other half is realistic. It's like playing Minecraft with the Witcher 3 scenes pasted throughout the game.

Yes, because overpowering amount of games which get to be based on RPGM becomes JRPG exclusively. I find the navigation and combat not intuitive there (and you will have it every little single step on a story progression, maybe even multiple times), and content vs MC-walking-on-the-map time ratio incredibly low. Though it is on the other end of a scale, but Frank's Adventure series has actually RPGM-like style, still I liked them, in those cases an RPGM tag would not trigger me to ignore.
No, because I'm kind of always open for good suprises and I can rigorously look for hidden gems. I'm okay to check and leave 200 games to find 1 really cool.
