soy_cusi I just compiled it directly from godot without code signing or anything. Why would I put malicious code into something which you can just play inside your browser? There is literally no difference in gameplay. I also doubt whoever reuploaded my .exe file from itch.io went out of their way to decompile, put malicious code inside and recompile the whole thing.

Edit: I just checked it myself on virustotal.com and it seems like it doesn't like it not being signed - still please consider playing in browser on itch.io. It literally couldn't be safer.

The Pixeldrain file is a different size and I believe it to be actual malware.

Inaaca you would think so because every filehost shows a different filesize on their page. I've downloaded the .exe files from multiple filehosts (datanode and Pixeldrain) and compared their hashes. The hashes are the same.

But again: If you are unsure whether this is safe or not - just play the online version on itch.io.

In the future I will put more effort into not getting flagged by some online virusscan software (probably by signing the code or by just not releasing an exe at all)

When executed it didn't launch the game, deleted itself, and was fucking with some permissions. I felt that this was a suspicious enough red flag to call attention to, especially after seeing the descrepancy in file size.

Or an exe that delivers a payload into your system and removes the evidence, which is a common case with malware executables.

Even if an AV was responsible, if an exe provoked an AV strongly enough to activate and delete it with no trace or warning, that would still be a huge red flag that the file is suspect.
