Hello and welcome to the Dev Thread of an Adventure Time parody VN that I'm currently working on.
As of now the VN title is still to be determined hence the codename "Gauntlet".

Overview:

The Lich is coming back! Armed with a new Hero's Gauntlet gifted by the Ultimate Hero, Billy and some *secret* chapters of the Enchiridion, Finn must embark on an adventure to gather and recharge all NINE Gems of Power to defeat the Lich once and for all. Progress Update

The bulk of the battle UI is done. Next is making face icons to put it in the circle in the health bar that will show the stats when clicked.
Probably have to do some minor adjustments for sprite positions too.

Progress Update

Almost done lewding this Hotdog monster into another mimic. I thought to myself "This is exactly the same as the burger but elongated lol" so I went back to the drawing board.
In hindsight, the answer is literally right in my face. Here's a rough sketch of the Hotdog Lamia

Done making the character profiles screen. Totally underestimated the effort needed to keep the Holo-tech aesthetic passable since I've never used a "light" brush before. 2 more screens with this aesthetic.

Progress Update

Progress has been slow due to IRL. Done with both status screen and quest screen as well as their respective logic.

Status Screen:

Stats Progression:

Standard stats increase in exchange for points. Status points can be earned from quest and level ups.
EXP has a level cap that is proportional to each level; Meaning you HAVE to "Level up" by giving the EXP to the Guardian Angel or the additional EXP will go to waste. The Guardian Angel will then perform the levelling "ritual" with Finn *wink*. So look forward to levelling up :)

Quest:

As of now, the questing logic can handle scalable Fetch, Bounty, Location, Stats, and Investigation(Talk to) types of quests. Anything else is probably redundant as every quest ultimately boils down to a fetch quest with extra flavor text LOL.

Sketched 2 more static scene for the Lamia after that I'll be moving on to her animation scene.
I'd say 3 static and 1 animation is adequate for a 0.0.1 release... Even though I have more ideas.
If I keep adding stuff I'll never be able to publish this. Pray for me to resist the temptation T-T.

Sorry for the radio silence. A medical related issue had sprung up that required me to be in the care of my relatives for these past few months. To no surprise, it's kinda hard to enter degeneracy-mode when there's other people around. Anyways, health wise, things are looking up.

A silver lining is that I got some free time to grind on drawing skills and what not. I'd say progress should be ramping up around early of next month after getting all of this sorted out.

As a thank you for the continued interest for the project, here's a couple of previews that's finished for both the Hotdog Lamia and the Burger Mimic.

Progress Update

Not a prgress update per se, more of an elaboration regarding the combat mechanics.

C-c-combat

Since this is a Pokemon™ inspired combat (at least until Nintendo somehow manages to copyright the turn based mechanics), the game will feature 20 class types with their respective class advantages (damage multipliers) and weaknesses (damage reduction) based purely on the series' logic.

The Class Types will also applies to skills, for example;
Marceline, who we know is a Vampire has a vampire class skill called [Blood Drain] that drains your blood to replenish her health and a demon class skill [Soul Suck] that drains your stamina... or she can just hit you with a [Gut Punch] which is a purely physical attack that falls under the normal class type.


Ludonarrative Attempts

One of the things that bugs me about the series is the under utilization of Finn's sword collection. So, instead of pets battling each other to their deaths, Finn will use his array of swords to duke it out with the opponent. Finn's class type will change accordingly to the equipped sword that can be interchange during battle at the cost of a turn.

As of now, there 13 swords that has been implemented. Here's the preview:

There are 3 ways to obtain swords, story progression, reaching a high Relationship Level with NPCs, and buying them from the Sword Maiden at the Farmer's Market. Majority of the class types can be obtain by buying the swords from the Sword Maiden which means that there will be multiple swords with the same class types.

To counteract this redundancy, Passive Stat Boosts is implemented to each sword to provide more variety to combat and further incentivizes the player to increase NPC relationship levels in order to obtain a superior sword of a specific class i.e. the Ice King will give you a better sword for the Ice class type than the "Cold Sword" bought from the Sword Maiden.

Introducing the Sword Maiden. A Master Blacksmith that's well versed in the art of sword making,
she alone crafted the majority of the swords in Ooo used by goons and warriors alike.

She hails from a settlement located somewhere in the Mountain Kingdom called the "Marauder's Village". While the men are crude, though, and strong; the village is a actually a matriarchy. The Sword Maiden is the Head Marauder's daughter that is in charged of the village's smithy and currently the main bread winner of the entire village.

Like the men in her village she enjoys the occasional rough-housing. If you buy her all her wares, maybe she'll invite you to a one-on-one "rough-housing" session and teach you how she handles a "sword"... *wink wink*



Inspiration

The Sword Maiden character's design is adopted from the Head Marauder that appeared in episode 10 of season 1 titled "Memories of Boom Boom Mountain".

The original plan was to have Choose Goose as a one-stop-shop to buy everything in the game but where's the fun in that? So, I decided to add this character to fill in as the sword vendor of the game. She's a non-target NPC that can be sexed up by Finn based on the size of his sword collection. So for the love of glob, BUY DEM SWORDS BOI!

Progress Update

Minor change to the Battle UI. Previously the all the battle stats/class information (text) can be viewed by clicking the face icons on the UI but since the early game battle progression doesn't have much emphasis on class switching and buffs/debuffs yet, the main reason to look at them is to know the class type. So I've replaced the face icon with icons that shows the class type instead for ease of access to that info.
