Okay, first off this is my first time posting but I’ve been Looking through f95 and other forums for as long as I can remember. I’ve decided because I love writing and have patience in making something special, that I’m going to attempt to create a game.

I have almost every asset I can handle (daz3d) and my main questions is, do most content creators use genesis 3 models (such as Victoria 7 and Michael 7 etc) or genesis 8 models?

The reason for this question is because as I’ve gathered more assets, I see there are so many more poses for genesis 3(as far as sexual poses that is) and i don’t really want to invest all the time it takes to convert so many gen 3 poses to gen 8.

Do genesis 8 models really end up looking noticeably better than genesis 3?

Any help is seriously appreciated, I’m also open to suggestions.

I love to write guys, I have an amazing PC already and render scenes within minutes with really detailed lighting. I plan on making a game that the majority of users on here have been hoping for. I have tons of spare time to work on it as I’m still young.

I plan to write a game that branches into multiple paths where your decisions truly matter and actually mean something to you because you have a genuine feel for each character as I develope them in depth.

If you guys have any tips or just words of wisdom for me as I move forward, I will take in everything I can moving forward.
Thank you in advance

Its personal preference If you have more stuff for gen 3 then go for that, but some poses could come out similar on gen 8 but need a little tweaking so try testing some of the important poses on gen 8 first, and I think the mats are more important when talking about quality between the models

Since Genesis 8 is rather new the answer to your question is simple: mostly G3. G8 is basically just a enhanced g3 with its base still pretty much the same as before.

"really end up looking better" is, of course, subjective.

As @toolkitxx indicates, the G8 series is newer, so there hasn't been as much time for content for it to build up. That being said, much of the G3 clothing content will work on G8, and poses for G3 can be converted to work on G8. (G8 and G3 have different "zero poses," so they don't convert directly.)

My own personal sense is that the G8 characters are, in many cases, being designed to be a bit more "real world" and slightly less "stylized" than many of the G3 ones were. There are characters that are noticeably 40-ish instead of all being 25-ish, for example. But, since you're not restricted to one or the other in your scenes, just go with what seems suitable for the character you're portraying.

Thanks you guys for the quick replies.
Rich what you stated about using a model from either genesis 3 or 8 to portray specific characters that need to look a certain age will really help me going forward, appreciate that.

Don't be scared to mix generations. If you've been grabbing any freebies you can find, chances are you have wardrobe for different generations of Daz characters. Sure, the older stuff can usually be autofitted to the newer characters (if you have wear them all, etc.), but this can be a great way to distinguish characters, i.e. differentiating what is in the 'personal closet' of each character.

Some PAs are STILL making stuff for Victoria 4.2, for example, because there are still Poser users out there, and a lot of those items can be ported into Daz fairly easily, and we DO still see releases for previous gen characters. And a number of these newer 4.2 characters do look rather compelling.

I prefer the 'Genesis' bone structure, and of course later generations have more articulation points (which I appreciate), but I won't rule out using a 4th gen (v4, etc.) character out of hand. In fact, there are some rather decent celeb lookalikes for V4.2... but I digress. V3/4 era characters can be a bit harder to work with in Daz though, so I'd suggest newer generations for your main characters. Personally I think Genesis 2 is fine, and use Genesis 2 characters regularly, but of course 3 and 8 are better...

Now genitals, well I think that'll be your biggest limiter. If you don't have the enhanced genitals, or even the basic Daz genitals for any given generation, and want to be rather graphic with your scenes with said character, yeah... that could be a more immediate consideration. Sure, there are gens for each generation, but of course you pretty much need to acquire them separately for each generation...

The other thing to consider is cost. If you are buying assets, the older stuff often goes on sale at better discounts... if you are pinching your pennies, well it's something to keep in mind.

If you are going for ultra high quality, that may give more 'weight' to leaning to Gen 3/8, but most porn games do just fine with 'good enough'.

For me, it really comes down to looks, i.e. is the character in question compelling enough for my purposes? I do build custom characters too, but of course you still need skin textures, which often it's easiest to borrow from another existing character. It really comes down to - does the character fit the vision of the story you want to tell?

You have big plans, so good luck to you...

Then I use G3 and G8 models and frankly if you not doing anything over 4K or 8000Resolution then i can hardly see any difference.

@OhWee Fortunately I already have most genitals you can acquire as well as their modifiers. I also have and endless amount of poses i've acquired over the past two years as well as many outfits and expressions, so on and so fourth.

My main issue as of right now is finding the proper scene and by that i mean apartment, house, etc. I love my renders to look realistic, so my troubles are finding a decent interior that i can set up to look more like a set to give much better lighting.

Any recommendations?

Also, i'm mainly working with victoria 7/8 and characters similar, as well as michael 7/8 and other characters and skins similar. Because i've been working with daz3d for a while, i want my renders to be fairly decent. I don't care if i have to make a small test game to see what you guys think and get opinions on literally just the looks of the renders and models.

Is there any way to post polls to get opinions on which characters people prefer i move forward with?

Appreciate all the help.

Depending on what forum privileges you have, you can usually add a poll to a new thread. I'm not that acquainted with which users get which privileges, but I think most users can post polls in general (I think it's under additional options when you post a new thread).

I posted up about Altern8 in another thread. It's a newly released Daz product for Genesis 8 that supposedly reduces rendering overhead for some of the Genesis 8 models, while still maintaining some nice looking skin tones (assuming you dial them in). The creator mentions that it can reduce render times of figures by 3-5x...
Of course, it's for Genesis 8, but if you are looking to reduce render times, it might be worth a look.

As for picking a set, the apartment set by i13 is overused at this point (I've spotted it in at least 3-4 porn games by now). I found some interesting options over at Renderosity by TruForm and other artists. TruForm's are Poser models, though, which means you'd need to apply some iray glass shaders and such to the windows, etc.. Might be worth a look.

There's that 'complete house' thingie that's part of the Platinum Club offerings, but you'd need to buy a bunch of pieces separately. That being said, I can't think of any porn games that are using these, although I'm sure others can point out some examples.

3-d-c (Renderosity) also has a 'complete Villa', which comes in pieces. Haven't messed with this one yet, although the basement playroom add-on looked interesting...

As for sets with easily hide-able walls (for camera shots)... I think Tru-Forms can hide a lot of stuff, but the individual elements are separated out quite a lot, so it can take a bit sometimes if you are trying to hide other rooms and such (to reduce render overhead).

Hope this helps!

@OhWee It definitely helps!
Yeah, I've seen the i13 apartments and such everywhere, though i still decided the clothe shop was worth taking anyways as well as yoga studio just in case.
I've just gotten Dream Street Bedroom Sweet for the introduction of my models and the beginning of the storyline, I figured i can use a separate bathroom for scenes, and a different living room and such. This way i can treat each room as say a "Set" for quicker render times and easier posing :)

What do you think about that idea?

That'll mostly work, except that unless you 'weld/place' the two sets together, you won't have the option of any 'doorway' shots between the two, if you want elements of both in the scene, at least not inside of Daz. That approach does reduce overhead though.

The thing to watch for is to make sure that your overall architecture feels 'unified', i.e door designs are similar, etc.

Note that, apart from the very newest content released on DAZ, Rend*-whatever and so on... most is available. I mean... I started using DAZ... what. A month ago? I've got well over 3000 assets, and it just keeps on building up... (yeah, I'm a hoarder, I know...)

The point the others have made, with go with what fits your scene is good advice. I've found something that makes things a little bit easier on yourself - if you're gonna involve dual poses (two characters having sex, for instance), often it's preferable to have both be the same gen - just to save yourself some hassle, that is, while using poses for specific gens.
