Question on NPC interactions

I made a first person rpg game and am in the stages of polishing things up. At the moment the map is fairly small and there are only 3 NPCs one of which is sexable. Now to my question. Wether or not an NPC will have sex with you is determined by each characters likes and dislikes, which link to the players various stats. My question is would you prefer this to be opaque and you have to figure out what the characters preferences are or would you rather have them listed out?

Thanks.

Finding out preferences is good provided you have an indicator that you have made right or wrong choice. Not a great fan of hidden stats as it makes it harder than it should be for a porn game.At the end of the day players want to fap but making it a little challenging does not hurt if it runs in tandem with the story and enhances game play.

The way I see it, that depends. For instance, if the characters are family, childhood friends, the girlfriends you've had for a year and a half, you should know or have a good idea what they want or like. If they are a new character, you should have some sort of simple first date experience, allow for a simple exchange between them in which valueable information is shared.

Or, you could include something like an investigation minigame, where the MC looks around their home while waiting for them or something. With this they could get a feeling for who the person is.

I would also suggest that you don't rely too heavily on surface bs. I know that that's how these rpg games are typically written, but it would be far more entertaining if there was more depth to the characters. Such mechanics tend to make your characters shallow and unlikable.

It varies on what style of game your making... If it is a game that requires some micro-managing of protagonist stats along with relationship stats with characters, it's usually better to have an option for display... If it's mostly story/choice driven with stats associated to some choices, then hidden or unhidden works... If it's a grindy type game, having viewable stats helps quell the frustration of the grind, because players will see if their grind has a meaningful effect prior to content actually opening up... Hope that all makes sense... In the end, it's a matter of what your goals are overall... Will showing the stats negatively impact how you want the game play to work, or does having it show mean nothing really in the end? It's a choice you have to make... And you can always have some things shown and some things not shown...

Thanks for the replys. They were enough to get the brain juices flowing and make me realize where a flaw in my game flow/game logic is.
