I thought so too but in reality you have to touch both statues then the portal will open up.

Played through this with Mtool. The art is quite good but the combat is generic, the level system is boring and so is the story. The ending doesn't feel very rewarding. It's a also a pretty short game. A lot of h-scenes are in the slums or from combat loss.
