cutting off their funding would probably motivate them to try to finish their projects.
it is true that most of them miraculously come up with a post of activity or a bs update when they get marked abandoned or patreon breathes in their neck, so they're definitely well aware and sensitive to their income being cut. but still, never blame the victim of scams, it's always 100% on the scammer.

I've never seen anyone get back on the legit track by losing their subs though, at the very best you get a rushed bs update or a 'completed' update with no regard to prior plot. but most often it's the bs update the silence forever. once their schedule starts slipping it's over for the game.

we currently have a great test case for the comebacks btw as the tyrant dev just 'came back' after years of abandonement. it seems alright and he's saying all the right things, but will he deliver? will he get back on track? his fans are taking it hook line and sinker, but I'm hugely doubtful. I've just never seen it happen yet.

Saying something is a scam means someone cheated you out of your money. Even sites like patreon warn you that backing a project does not guarantee its completion. If people are really prepared to pay hundreds of dollars for a few images a year that's their decision. No one is getting cheated here, we have market here that is made from consumers and developers. If consumers would be smarter with their money I am certain more games would get finished. the only way to control greedy developers is to keep them in check thru money. But of idiots want to support people based on a few post and an image here or there then that's the markets will period.

Gentlemen, I can see that both sides are right. I don't understand how this happened.

In the signature you can see a link to the an abandoned VN (Goover). At the end there's an explanation of why I can't finish it.

There's a link to the development thread. And you can see the rhythm of work that I can afford as much as possible. Even at the expense of my real life.

Right now, I'm not raising money in any way. Maybe in the future.

When I support projects with my money I'm trusting the creators to complete the projects. I don't just throw money at them if I don't think they can do it. If they did enough to earn my trust, then they have some leeway. Plus I'd be an idiot if I just gave a person money every month for no reason.

After awhile, with little to no updates from a creator, I realize I don't want to be the idiot who just gives a person money every month for no reason, so I cancel my subscription. Unless it's kickstarter, then the money's already gone.

I'm not grumpy, I'm just coded that way.

ok then tell me why not even ONE dev that has "burnt out or doesn't have enough time" halts the payments until he is ready to return to work.
Hmm... There's devs who do it. Nottravis, Heavy Five dev, is doing it systematically; following her car crash she'd been near to two years with frozen pledges. And she's far to be the only one.
