Hello,
I am new to this community. I want to know from 0-100 how this community work and where to look if I need any help regarding development of renpy game. I do have a little idea about story, and I can do little bit of programming.

So coming to the point, if I want to develop an adult visual novel game and I want a team that can help in the project by developing art, animations and little bit of help for programming and proof reading.

How much it might cost me? and where should I seek for developers, story writer and art and animation that can help me with this project?

Additonally , I just want to know... How the game earn profit? and how much does a team will cost per project just an average cost?

I am doing it as a hobby but I want kind of dedicated team who can help me with this and those who can spend their time to provide timely update even if they do it as a hobby but providing timely update to customers should be the priority.

So where should I seek help?

the reason for the popularity of DAZ is that it makes it possible to make everything yourself, without paying anyone else who's probably gonna bail out in the middle of the project anyway.

doesn't mean it's gonna be automatically good, but it DOES make it possible. and doable.

the easiest way to find out if you have what it takes is to simply dive in and start making one. like maybe make a 5 minute short with only 1-3 scenes and you'll quickly run into most obstacles you need to learn about before starting your 'real project'. if you can't do that you can probably forget making games right now.

oh, and you can also forget profit right now. the earliest you can even dream about making ANY money is 2-3 years after steady, decent quality updates. but you have less than a 1% chance of ever surviving the workload that far.

Thanks for mentioning ostacles...yea I will try to make short project and see how it works..any other tools/software you think I might need to learn to make it a success? All negative and positive suggestions are welcome. Right now I am not thinking of profit, I am just asking to get an idea like how much time and money do I have to invest for a particular game. Just a rough idea when it comes to development.

The biggest tip I can give you is to plan your game in advance. The hardest lesson I learned was to change the structure of my game, because I was too ambitious. Start small: since you're making a visual novel, I would write the base story first (making it a kinetic novel). If you want a branching narrative, you can do that after the base of the story is laid down.

Structuring the story
Think about what characters you need, and what the ending will be. Structuring the story can be done in many ways, but I like to think of the story in big blocks, and then naturally write from block A to block B. Of course, if things don't fit, I change it.

Team members
And if you're looking for team members and write the story yourself, all you need to do is find an artist who can bring your story to life. The costs for an artist are quite different. If you work on a strict budget, you can use websites like ArtistsNClients to find an artist who fits your requirements.

Art

If you click on the link, you should fill in your maximum budget and type "nsfw" as a tag. For $30 per picture, you will find a decent artist. However, keep in mind that the art style will be primarily anime-based with this budget. Western/realistic art seems to be rarer/more expensive. I pay the artist I commission around $200 per picture, because he's experienced, he can do both scenes/sprites and backgrounds, and he has a very realistic artstyle.

I spent a lot of money on my game, but that's because I could miss the money. Depending on the complexity and length of your game (combined with other factors), the total price you spend on the game can greatly vary.

Game engine
For a visual novel, I would recommend using RenPy. It's a free game engine that's built for this purpose: you can easily code in the visual novel text into the engine.

These are a few quick tips for adult game development. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to send me a message. I would gladly help you where I can.

Another idea: if you don't want to learn Daz, then using for example Honey Select, Koikatsu, TK17 or even The Sims could be an alternative. Those programs can produce acceptable renders with only minimal work and without top-of-the-line hardware.

For a first project, I'd go that route rather than to hire somebody.

Also: a trap that new devs often fall into, is that they want to make their own "perfect" game. This has a number of problems, such as:
- What is perfect for you may not be perfect for others
- Perfection is very difficult to achieve, especially without experience
- It's easier to get disappointed and quit if it doesn't work out as you envisioned.
This goes for graphics, but also for story and game design.

If you have deep pockets: yeah, you can hire people to work for you. If you don't: don't even start unless you understand you are going to do everything yourself: story, coding, art, marketing, everything. If you're lucky over time you'll get some volunteers but don't expect this to happen in less than a year after the game has been out.

Thanks for the information. for the first few weeks..i will try to develop a small 3/4 min game by myself after learning all renpy coding daz 3d animation etc...and will see what I am good at and where I face any trouble .....You can suggest me from what all tools can be used beside this, for you know like sex animation and all...so that I can learn during my free time and try to create a small test project...before developing an actual game...that way I think, I will have a fair amount of an idea, how much time taking activities are this and if I am not good at something than I can decide to outsource that activity to someone else. But for now, can you guide me which tool can i use to build animated scene of characters? I am giving you just an example that I played so far like a dik game, a wife and a mother, these are renpy games..but i think both have used different art and animation softwares ...so I will take my time to learn those tools so that I can have a fair amount of idea what to use for my story. Thanks for your guidance once again.

I obviously don't have a deep pocket...and even if i do have some money I would like to know where i can face issues in completing my project on time...I am learning daz3d and renpy as of now....i do like being a dik game, a wife and a mother etc games ...and i see both games have used different concept on developing code and maybe different art tools...It would be helpful if you can tell me which tool I can you know use to develop short animation like moving , sex scene etc. Than i will try to build up like 3/4 min of test project and see on which phase I am facing difficulty and can try to outsource only that part to someone else...obviously if i do everything by myself it will be alot of time taking because I am doing it as an hobby but I definitely want to develop few games whatever stories I have on my mind so that everyone hopefully can enjoy it!

You can make decent short and simple animations with Daz3d.

Hey, It seems fine to me...I just want to ask is it legal to create adult content using Daz 3D?? I was reading some forum where there was some discussion was going around regarding whether developers can publish adult animations in a game using daz 3d and genesis characters etc and some interactive license to buy for characters...i don;t understant completely as of now...will try to ask them..if it is legal or allowed and how to do it.
And are there any adult animations available to download from Daz website??..i tried to search pre set animations and emotions that they sell, but as of now I cannot find any 18+ contents to download from official daz3d website..even characters genitals are missing ....i am just trying free characters as of now and searching for where to buy those stuff to try to create animations
Can you let me know the link ?

It is legal to use Daz3d in porn games in the manner 99.9% of the developers on this site use it. Interactive License is for using when the player directly controls an animated character (via keyboard or mouse), not what we do, i.e. glorified slideshows.

Thanks, I am working with 8gbVRAM and 16gb CPU RAM laptop and overall I feel , Iray rendering sucks with that configuration. I am looking forward to buy new laptop with RTX 3080 Ti 16gb graphics with 32 Gb of CPU ram Laptop probably next month for this..I know developers prefer desktop but I prefer Laptop for my work as I wanna work from anywhere where i wanna sit...so I just want to know whether Daz will work fine with that configuration? or Iray rendering will still suck after that configuration too? or I should go for even higher configuration..I just don't want my money to go waste after the purchase.
Additionally, I am previewing a charcter in Iray view in Daz3d ...but whenever i look it from bottom, the figure doesn't show up no matter how long I wait for it to appear....Please find attached 3 files where in 2 , i can see the character on iray from all views....but when i go to bottom ..it doesn't appear. so I dont understand what I am doing wrong or what I have to do?

As for you pc, depends on your graphic card, DAZ3D likes NVIDIA and its CUDA cores. If you have an AMD GfxCard, you need to use CPU rendering, who is slow as hell.

And laptop cards are generally very slow compared to desktop.

Did you have any thought about using another engine, like Honey Select 2?

I am learning Daz3d as of now and I do liked it...I just learned basic graphics features and how to pose how to create animations and environment etc...i face currently two obstacles on that..first one is no genitals in characters in free mode, if i maybe buy few characters than i can try to create few scene..second one is i dont find any 18+ pre animation sex or erotic posture there so yea i can create or I will check how to do it....even if it will be time taking, i don't mind that as a beginner.

I know desktops are better to be honest, but with laptop I can spend like 2 more hours fixing animations and images from anywhere...i will see though what i can do..Honey Select 2, i have not checked it yet..once I complete like tutorials with Daz3D and experimenting with what it can develop, i will check it too...thanks for suggestions though..it's always welcome.

I can't really help you more with Daz, I have some knowledge of it, but it's been quite a while that I used it, I use Honey Selcet myself.

As for your laptop, fair enough, but look at which graphic card you have in it. Not only the ram, but the chip itself. A 3060, for example, is far below a 3080 even when the both have the same RAM.

Anyways, good luck to you man.

Yes I am looking for atleast 3080 Ti virtual RAM....i think it gives me 16gb of VRAM, i still don't know its performance but I hope it will be good...as 4080 is something out of budget for me as of now lol ....as motherboard and all will have to be updated for that chip...what is good system requirement for Honey selector?

Honey select turn on any half decent rig.

The biggest thing is the RAM, if you want to make scenes with a lot of characters. 8gb at minimum, I recommend 16, or if you wants scene with 10+ characters like me, 32.

Cpu, a I5 or a x600 from AMD

Gfx card, anything over a gt 800 series or over, AMD anything over a rx 400 series or over.

You can try it with nearly anything modern. Sure, the graphics are not up to DAZ3D, but still serviceable. And you have a very good selection of animations included with the studio. It's also far easier to use than DAZ.

One downside though: You can't sell on Steam. You have to go through patreon, make your game free, and make peple pay for support/early access. It's a bummer, due to copyright laws. You can still make decent money though, some of the most successful games on this site are made with it, but then it's like everything, do not expect instant success and lot of dough unless you are very lucky and very talented.

Yes, I am not expecting early success or money out of it right away..But I saw few NSFW games on steam...which is available here for free...so what kind of copyright steam accept?? I mean, I am paying for characters and whatever poses or animations comes with it for commercial usage..so why would steam wont allow? I think there are many games already available in steam..once i will learn how to create the game, i will sure ask them.
