So basically, the big challenge would be to find the right model that can run on an average computer for most people, while still providing good translation quality? With the sheer number of models out there, it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. :D
You’re absolutely right! It really is like looking for a needle in a haystack. But to be honest, I can't dig through that haystack too fast because whenever I start testing these models, my PC fans start whistling like a jet engine! :D

Actually, I think the users will be the ones to find the 'best' models for their specific needs. Since these are small models, they aren't experts in every language; a model that works great for Turkish might be terrible for Russian or Spanish. So, instead of me picking one, it's better to give users the freedom to test and find which 'needle' works best for their own language! :D

Actually, I did try it. But to be honest, I hit the rate limits almost as soon as I started testing.

The problem with Gemini's free tier isn't just the total monthly limit; it's the Requests Per Minute (RPM). For a Ren'Py game with tens of thousands of lines, sending requests one by one—or even in small batches—triggers the limit almost instantly. Even DeepL's 500k character limit is more practical because it doesn't throttle the connection as aggressively as Gemini does.

If you don't have access to paid APIs, I believe the only real options right now are either Google or Local LLM. I know the Local AI side isn't in the best shape at the moment, but I'm planning to focus on fixing it as soon as I get the chance. Trying to fit massive game translations into Gemini's free API constraints feels nearly impossible for now, but I really appreciate the suggestion! :D
Check webscout or gpt4free in github.
You can found lots of freellm apis.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t think I’ll be integrating those types of unofficial APIs into Renlocalizer.

Since these projects rely on workarounds and 'backdoors,' they require constant maintenance and frequent updates to stay functional. As an open-source developer with no financial backing, I simply don’t have the time or resources to constantly fix things that break every other week.

My main goal is to bring the program to a stable 'Final' version and leave it as a solid, reliable tool for the community. Adding methods that are both unstable and legally questionable doesn't align with that goal. I want the core features to be robust and long-lasting without needing constant 'life support.' I appreciate the idea, but I prefer to stick with more official or offline methods! :D
