I have vague recollection of a game where:
- male MC, after some initial stuff I cannot remember, ends up applying to elite fighting unit (medieval-ish stuff with some magicians involved, explicitly not regular military)
- recruitment process is a disaster due to (forgot why - sabotage, cheating, injuries?) , MC ends up in a chump squad after at least leaving a good impression trying to fight even when half-dead,
- "the most super duper elite squad" shown to have at least some nepo babies, some political angles introduced
- game lets you go on a handful of missions, with certain degree of choices involving both fighting and rescuing/assisting some characters
- the last version I've seen petered out leaving looped repeatables like bathing
- can't remember if there was some meaningful combat system or stats, pre-recruitment period might have been fairly extensive
- 1st person view? , location-jumping movement & perhaps rollback feature (hence I think Renpy), 3d-ish graphics - nothing groundbreaking
