VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Retrieving The Past [S3 E.6 & Epilogue] [MrKnobb]

Renders are really nice but this game is basically 95% narrative and 5% porn. Story in my opinion wasn't very good or interesting. So it basically boiled down to a space bar spamming simulator at least for me. Didn't enjoy the fact that the game constantly throws hot women at you, that you do absolutely nothing with. There was a lot of characters who were hot but were literally just created for plot devices and nothing more which kind of irked me. If you like confusing and convoluted stories about super soldiers and criminal organizations give it a shot. But its not really much of a porn game.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The story was mad and very exciting to play, it had some dark, some too dark, turns which helped the development. The renders are excellent, The Characters are interesting, Nicky being one of my favourites of all time. The NSFW scenes are very "Enjoyable" as well.

However, the whole rape thing is definitely not my thing. The fact that Nicki, (IMO the best main girl) is a product of rape makes her route kind of hard to swallow. The whole rape scene with the redhead, cant remember her name, is horrible but tbf it did improve her own little story. But most of all, "The mansion" is fucking pointless, soo fucking creepy and hurts this game a lot.

Here is why I gave it 4 stars:

1. All the Characters are very good to interact with. They all have different personalities. And each main girl has her own "quirks". I.e. Nicki's daddy kink
2. The Renders are brilliant and the animations are near perfect, enough said.
3. The story is genuinely so cool and contrary to popular belief, decently well written, it keeps you interested while also having some very hot scenes.
4. The ending, at the start its obvious, it needed to be. But after the main story ending it gets good. I wont spoil it but its very hot
5. I would of gave 5 stars but the whole rape thing needs to remove at least 1 star. SO ill do that and give the games a solid 4/5

SO, I will recommend this game to everyone, everyone that wont be affected by some "bad" scenes, such as those previously mentioned

That was a hell of a story!

I liked most characters, the renders are great, the animations are ok (technically perfect, but I don't like the style. But thats just my opinion).

But most important:
There is a good story that develops over the time.

The last part seems a little bit rushed, but as quoted in the game it's "a fuckfest". I think there are not many users who are against it.

This Game had the weirdest Story ever. I all started out with a nice little Game where you had a romance with your young neighbors daughter ...and it ended up in a Game about some huge Criminal-Organizations with Super Soldiers and stuff like that. I also still don't get why the Daughter was introduced when you never get to Romance her, why then put her in skimpy clothes into Thumbnails and Posters? She is literally the first Screenshot on this thread, kinda misleading!
Instead you can choosed from 3 Girls and the Neighbors Daughter had a weird Style-Change midway through the Game that I really did not like.

The Animations and Render-Quality is pretty good and the Girls looks pretty good too, not too many generic Premade Faces you know out of 324 other Games.

I like more simple Games better, where the focus is on developing a Relationship with a Girl instead of fighting against Supersoldiers and Criminal-Superbaddies.

The game is about the story of Jensen Wenchester, a former Captain in Team 5 Infiltration Unit, Army Rangers. He is one of the more decent main characters I've played. He's a grown man that actually acts and behaves like one, and not a man child.

The story was pretty good overall from start to current. Right out the gate given Jensen's "condition" I expected this game to be sort of a fuckfest considering that early on every woman wanted to jump his bones, but I was wrong. This is a story driven game that didn't focus on Jensen getting his dick wet 24/7 but moreso his past and the people around him.

I had to get use to a game like this whereas multiple characters got multiple scenes. One positive is that it gave the players a chance to know the characters a little more personally.

I loved the whole Mother-Daughter dynamic of Victoria and Nicky, you can tell they were really close. Nicky character started as a shy, timid girl but she blossomed into a sex bomb once she found her "freedom". And Vicky is the beautiful, overprotective mom with a tragic past that sworn off all men until she got to know Jensen of course.

I thought Adam was a pretty good villain, the Devs did a good job of developing him. I also loved Jensen's team from Stephen to Markus, it was a great brotherhood type feel.

Even though I'm a story first kinda guy I felt that a little more sex scenes involving Jensen could've been added, I mean there was a lot of lesbian action, which I can only tolerate so much of but not so much of male and female action. There also was a lot of teasing which I didn't care for, particularly the fake incest. Andi calling Jensen her boyfriend, being flirty and unzipping her bodysuit in front of him was lame. It's like dangling raw meat in front of hungry lions(us). The Devs had no intentions of adding incest so the teasing of Amber and Andi should've been left out in my opinion. No need to get any hopes up.

Now to the dark part... Listen, I don't like rape. Especially, to future love interests. Having dated a woman who was raped, I know first hand how difficult those type of relationships can be. Being with a woman you know was violated in multiple ways, by multiple men is tough, at least it was for me. But also knowing that Nicky was the product of that rape made me sick to my stomach, the last thing I wanted to do was romance Victoria after the fact, instead I felt pity for her. Not too many guys can handle the fact that their woman was broken, used and violated. And that's why I usually tend to avoid games with victimized love interests because it hits home. It also sucks knowing Nicky's only knowledge about her father would be that he was a rapist.

I've played all 3 love interest paths. Evaline is my best girl, because I felt like she complimented Jensen the most but I felt her path was seriously lacking compared to the others. Nicky ideally had the best one because she's sort of a wild child now, having threesomes with Mei Lin and what not. Then there's the Daddy-daughter role play which made Nicky hotter. Victoria's path was that of a battered woman who's finally ready to let her guard down and be loved.

I know the game is not officially completed yet, but I enjoyed the whole story aspect of it, minus Victoria's. It was well written and the dialogue was very smooth.

Boring, trite, and often absurd. The lack of choice makes the game feel like it's dragging along while the actual plot feels like it was created by an adolescent virgin with ADHD. Renders were barely passable, the use of stock photos for city scapes and such was absurd, especially when the view from the same place changed between day and night. The font used for character names and such was unnecessarily outlandish.

All in all, just a poor AVN. Don't waste your time.

Love this since the start and still loving it now it's nearly at the end.

Feels a bit different than your normal take on super soldiers in that instead of having snooty government officials keeping an eye on him he has his girls. I'll take that change.

Pick 1 of 3 girls (or just Eve) and then set about doing the sex while taking down a criminal empire, raising a daughter, growing a beard, making time for friends and then punching someone in their face until their skull is powder.

Then I wondered where my sense of morality went as I wanted one of the baddies to get away.

Mainly story based and can get emotional at times but overall it's been a hell of a ride.

Renders:have to give it a high score here...the dames are lovely...the scenes are pretty decent.it's nice to look at
Story:it's convoluted AF...potential for something great is there but its a mess.
Writingverwrought mess...this is why it gets 2/5..it's just bad writing
Gameplay:there isnt any really..it's basically a kinetic novel with a couple choices sprinkled in along the way that just points towards which dame is your love interest
Conclusion:the art is there...the general plot is there..the execution is a meandering mess.

amazing game with a amazing interest peaking story you would think it to be the new James bond movie script that was stolen but it isn't he has thought of how to make this story and take it in this direction and its bloody amazing keep up the good work and i wish i could retrieve the future

Season 1 was alright, but it seems like the dev fell in love with his own storyline and it just goes on and on and on for no reason at all other than self indulgence.
Most of it could be cut and it would be a much better experience than it is currently.

There is one thing I can say about this game:
"Confusing Timeline "

You know, that's not a bad thing. I like stories that have meaning in character development, but the more these stories develop, the more "plot hole" emerges. There is a lot that can be said but everything must be paid off by breaking the timeline. There are so many transitions between scenes that lack continuity that is sometimes difficult to understand.

Aside from Great Production, I prefer the older version (early season) over the latest one.

I mean I can't think of a reason that this game doesn't deserve this kinda praise. It's a fantastic VN and deserves more love then it's getting.

Firstly the story deserves it's praise as it keeps me entertained and engaged. I am always looking forward to the next update after the current update ends. It always helps when you have a complete douche of a antagonists that needs to die, brutally too.

Secondly, The love interests and relationships are top notch quality. Probably the best thing in this game is the relationships that Jensen has with the various characters and not even just the love interest. I mean I would die for Vikki, like I still haven't even attempted an Eve or Nikki play through as I am just focused on Vikki. She is fucking fantastic. Her and Jensen's story, is just fantastic.

Thirdly, The models and renders are beautiful when the ladies that the MC ain't gonna bang look good you know the dev takes care of his renders and models.

Finally, the scripit is really well done, dialogue is very natural and has some very funny lines in it as far as I am concerned.

The one negative is the animations are a little wonky but not so much that it ruins the experience.

Overall the game has progressed really well since the first chapter and has been a really good one to play. The renders have gotten really good and the animations are also improving. Sure, they could use some work, but they are a lot better than a lot of other adult games that I've played over the last year. I'm a little bummed that the MC has to only pick one of the beautiful women to have a relationship with. I know I'm in the small minority that likes the whole harem/incest routes in games. Even without that the storyline has really improved and I can't wait to see where the game goes.

However, if the dev decides to include any type of cuckold or NTR I will be avoiding the game like the plague. They ruin the experience of the game and don't make them enjoyable at all.

So I just did a full playthough from the start up to the current update and holy hell did this game go off the rails. I found my self skipping through most of season 2 and almost all of season 3.

Now I'm not a writer myself and I'm sure I couldn't do any better, but it really just felt like the dev was just throwing shit at a wall and hoping it stuck, EVEN though the development of the plot looked like it was pre-planned.
I don't think anyone could juggle that many characters or plotlines, and the final product felt to me like a convoluted espionage, romance, drama story that made no sense, laced together by meaningless sex scenes.

The easiest way for me to summarize this game is that it looks like a messy brainstorming board for "Depraved Awakening" (great game btw).

Now, aside from all that, I'm never above a decent game with some decent characters that I can just yank it to (Milfy City), but even THAT is gone with most of S2 and 3. The dev decided to trade some good old fashion pornography for a boring chain of events that don't hold any weight.

So my advice? Give season 1 a quick play if it looks interesting to you, and don't give a second thought to 2 and 3.

It is like that film that your friends ask should they go to see. You shrug and go meh if you have nothing better to do and have the free time, sure.

It is bang average so I gave it three stars and didn't want to go overly negative, but it sure as hell was not anything above three stars. The story gets so convoluted as time goes on and I truly understand why it got so many five star reviews years ago in its earlier life cycle because it was a better prospect back then. Now that more is revealed, I wonder how many of those five stars would still be given.

The story dips so much as time goes on and is just all about shock value nonsense. Also the sex scenes really dry up as time goes on. Feels like you are going through the motions and in season three which is the present as of this review. The woman I chose is still saying we need to slow down and take our time. Now that is 100% a ok as long as the plot carries the show and is really interesting. This is not a game where the plot and story carry the show. What springs to mind for me is the game Alexandra, no sex scenes for ages and ages, but I loved the story and it never bothered me because it was interesting.

All in all this game went from having too many meaningless sex scenes for no reason , to now having virtually nothing with a dragging mediocre story line. I always like to go in depth with my reviews so people really know I have reasons how I feel and am just not throwing out a score based on nothing. But this game I feel I can just leave it with what I stated, it does not warrant me going super in depth for this middle of the road title. Just play it if you have free time, nothing special and nothing overly terrible.

I really liked season 1, but after that the game seems to have stalled in a complex tangle of unimportant plot lines. While the renders are beautiful, particularly Victoria, none of the relationships with the MC are developing at all. All the buildups just fizzle. For example the girls are captured and put into cells - but they get out and the MC has nothing to do with it. Girl is potentially MC's daughter, but turns out not to be. I keep hoping some kind of romantic thing will develop, but it never does, and there is not really any significant adult content.

It’s hard for me to write in English, so I will limit myself to listing the advantages because of which it is worth playing this game. And it’s worth playing!!!
A big and interesting story that is interesting to follow.

Lots of very good and some very bad reviews for this game here.

My opinion lies somewhere between.
This is a game with some gorgeous women and some of them are also attractive apart from their appearances.
This is also a game with an insanely large cast of characters and for no good reason at all.

You don't need to bring all into a story that this game tries to.
Secret government programs, super soldiers, 8-10 crime lords, characters that should have appeared once and instead keep popping up again and again, thereby taking away time from continuing the actual plot, from showing the important characters and at least with Season 2 here, from actually showing any interesting sex.

With the attempted scope and cast of characters this VN has, it seems to strive to become the Visual Novel version of big Fantasy or SF epics like "Song of Ice and Fire" or "Revelation Space" or maybe even "War & Peace."

The problem is, for something of that calibre you need to be an extremely good writer and while the people working on this game are good enough to write a decent VN, they are not George R. Martin or Alastair Reynolds, or god-forbid Leo Tolstoi.

To put it simple, this game overreaches. It tries to fit too much into itself and through that it fails.

During this second season it has been a chore to read some of the updates, with all this time and place given to boring side-characters. It's annoying that in all of this whole second season barely anything happened with the main characters and tbh there also wasn't enough sex in it, at least not sex with characters who actually matter.

Which brings me to the next issue. Matter.... your decisions don't seem to matter at all. For one there aren't barely any and most of those who are there basically just want you to choose between 2 or 3 of the 3 LIs AND those don't matter as well. At least not in the way that anything changes depending on your decisions.

If I had written this review after Season One, I might have given the game 4 stars, because it seemed more focused AND offered enough adult content for an Adult VN, if I had rated this second season alone, it wouldn't get more than two stars, so I decided to choose the middle path and give 3.

This is one of the games with a very protective fanbase and so this review might cause some irritation, but I despise it when any discordant voice gets attacked and insulted.

I'm into character driven stories, I love complex plots with a large cast, but in this case it just doesn't work.
All these side characters seem superfluous and not interesting enough to give them so much attention. Sometimes less really is more.
Tell the same story, with half the characters, cut away a few of the totally unrelated subplots and this might work.

That being said, the lesbian threesome in this update was fun, even if the only character I'm interested in is Mei.

Updating this to Season 3 Episode 2:
In this season we have some more sex so farthan in Season 2, but IDK, it just isn't as hot as it used to be.
And the story? I can't connect to it at all. It is so drawn out and I'm so bored.
If only the dev and his writing partners would go and drop unneccessary subplots and move the story along at a quicker pace.
Honestly, it feels like reading a Brian Michael Bendis comic at times, with all the standing or sitting around talking.
So no, not much has changed since the last review.

Some of the models in the game look incredibly hot, but that's where the pro's end for me.

The game actually just tells a story. It feels as if 'im reading a comic. There are almost no decisions to be made.
The MC just goes about and fucks every woman he can get his hands on.
For many, that may be a very positive thing, but to me it's not. I'd rather get to choose who the MC fucks, which girl he romances, etc....
I'd prefer to play games in which making a choice, impacts the flow of the story.
You only get a handfull of choices like this ......... Spend time with .......

There is no way to change the MC's name, wich makes it hard for me to empathize with the game.
